Chapter 288: 288 Against an archmage

[Friday’s POV: ]

Six months and twelve days have passed since the day we were dragged into that hell... a lot of things have happened since then.

"How... how do you know the Rune magic... and what kind of runes are those things...?"

"Basic flames?"

-Snap!

"Nothing special, actually."

-Ooooooooooooong!

The area we were in was a vast open area with only one entrance which was also blocked after I entered the place.

There were lights on the walls and the ceiling was tall, almost like a dome with strong walls that certainly could handle the magic from an archmage.

The reason he stayed here must be because of this structure anyway, it was very good for Mana inductions as well.

It was a nice place, and since they had to lure us into a place where he could deal with us, this place with only two doors was the perfect place. He could use his powerful magic however he wanted so there was no need for him to hold back here.

And, the same was true for me as well.

"What... what the hell?!"

Rune magic was the most difficult kind of magic in the entire Worldline according to master and the reason she taught me that first before anything, was exactly because of the fact that learning it would mean learning all there was to the thing we call ’magic’.

This person before me was a master of that kind of magic, however, all that he had learned was from his own experience, from his research and from the ancient texts of this world, something unbearably ineffective.

’True Runes were different from what he used. An example of which was playing out right before me.’

-Zaaaaaaaa...

There was a wall of fire that I produced from a simple one word Rune while to block that simple kind of attack, the great archmage had to cast a three layered barrier that was barely able to hold back the power of my magic.

"Haaa... haaa..."

Though, just that much was never going to block someone of his level.

"You. What is your identity? Where did you learn that Rune?"

"Hand over the key and I would-"

"Fucking bastard. Do I look like I am asking you a question?!"

He was an archmage, a great magician who had already mastered all there was to learn about the magic of this world.

-Oooooooooong!

An existence that could destroy nations on its own if he so much as wished for it.

"Tell me where did you steal it before I kill you and all your little buddies!" He started throwing a mix of fire and wind magic at me, and I had no choice but to dodge his attacks.

They were so strong I knew I would die the moment I get in even one of their ranges.

’They are powerful, and dangerous.’

In the last few months, under the careful guidance of my master and Lord Lucy, we all had learned many things that we had never known were impossible.

I had especially progressed significantly and now had the power to go against the giant that had once been the most powerful thing I had ever come across.

’I have more than enough skills for any kind of situation possible now, but still, fighting against an absolute of this world, even with all my power, is the same as fighting against three of those giants without any kind of abilities.’

The emperor, the previous leader of Elves, this archmage before me, the [Sword Heaven] of east, the [Glorious Blue Knight] of north, the Pope of Theocracy, are a kind of absolute powers that even master considers nothing less than Divine beings walking on this earth in disguise of human.

They are too strong from our common perspective and even the master considers them strong enough to be conscious of them.

Just like the blade of fire relentlessly flying after me, attacks packing enough raw power to destroy even a near immortal body like mine.

"Stop it damn it!"

-Oooooooooong!

The fire-wind blades were broad and strong but also easy to dodge with an agile body. Something he figured out took quickly and broke the learner blades into small knives that he now had full control over.

’To the right.’

-swish!

’Now left-’

-Swash...!

"See! Hahaha! Running around isn’t going to do you any good, hahaha!"

He was a crazy bastard whenever Runes were involved, master had told me that much already.

’Things were going according to her special plan for this mission, and though I have no idea what is going to happen, I will just do as she has asked me to.’

-Oooooooooong!

It was difficult to stall for time, yes, but until they come here, I had to finish with all the things that she had asked me to do.

So...

-Oooooooong!

After using my footwork technique that I learned from Lord Lucy to get away from the knives that were all following me, I used a two word rune [Cold winds] and produced a storm of cool winds that were strong enough to freeze the cave like walls of the room, and cast a layer of cold over the magical lights illuminating this area.

"You know another one?! What are you?!"

Six months have passed and yes, I have become strong. But just like how my masters have not become divine individuals, I am the same as well.

’I am strong enough to cast a three word Rune spell with the current Mana recovery speed, stats, and authority, but still... since even a master could only cast at most a nine word rune spell, my prowess of this most difficult kind of magic is admirable.’

And this archmage before me certainly was admiring it.

"Someone like you shouldn’t possess something so... precious."

The winds that were produced by the runes sparked like stars filling the atmosphere. Something that mesmerised this mage so much that he just stood there with a unique transparent barrier around himself and watched the winds freeze everything, even the surface of his magic.

"Fascinating..."

He was still creating small blades of fire that were chasing after me so I didn’t have more than a few moments between defending myself, and using the skills or magic to counterattack.

It wasn’t easy to do it, but since he stopped to admire my Runes every time, the process of stalling time was a little easier.

"Alright. I have decided... you, bastard, are staying with me."

-Snap!

A sudden wave of dense Mana bursted out from him and shook off all the effects from all the magic I had used until now, along with his own fire-wind-water attribute spell’s effects.

Then, in a blink of an eye, he closed the distance between the two of us, came right before me, and grabbed me by the neck.

"You little piece of shit... you’re coming with me."

His eyes were black, filled with a kind of unexplainable ecstasy that one only shows in some moments of their lives.

’And this moment must be one of those rare precious moments for him.’

He was a Rune fanatic as master said, I have seen that much in this little time we spent together.

His craze, his love that had become an obsession for the Rune, the words of this world, was something unlike anything I have seen myself.

It was closer to the master’s obsession of Lord Lucy, or Lord Lucy’s obsession of self refinement. It was closer to the Queen’s affection for the insects or Captain’s obsession for world peace.

He was a crazy person, much like most of us.

Perhaps, that was the reason master wanted him on her other team.

And, perhaps, his will that stuck with his task till the end moment even though there was an easy way out of this, was what made him another candidate for her Joker position.

{ "Apologies for being late." } 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

{ "A minute more and things would have become complicated, captain." }

My task here was complete.

The captain, our Ace, was here with the other members now, so it was time to execute the other plan.

"Sorry mate."

He was holding me by my neck, a spell that blocked me from using any kind of magic was also covering me, however, I just reformed the area he was holding and slipped away from his grasp.

Holding a slime like that wasn’t that useful since we are slippery creatures, but sadly he had to learn that the hard way.

"You will be the one coming with me."

Captain, along with Old T, that dirty killer Nicholous, and Cardinal was here, the special artifacts in their hands glowing with a bright golden color.

’Master and Lady Anna created these artifacts together, so I had no doubt they were going to work the way we wanted it to.’

They made it for sealing beings like this archmage before us, absolutes that were unfathomably powerful.

-Oooooooooooooong!

"What the..."

These sealing artifacts were strong enough to seal off even elder original dragons, beings that even these absolute mortals could never even put a scratch on.

They were powerful so, when they were activated and the light coming from them touched the flabbergasted archmage, the golden lights turned red and the four mechanical orb like devices flew off from the hands of the four of them, and instantly attached themselves to the archmage.

"What the hell is this?!"

Then, the four mechanical orbs became something close to melted silver, and covered the entire body of the archmage.

{ "Target capture complete." }

Three distinct crystals were present in three core areas of his body that were completely frozen by the silver metal.

He was trapped in there with no possible way out, and he knew that instantly.

’No magic could work in that place, no physical movement was allowed. This was a seal that directly stimulated the [Law] of the Worldline so even if he was an absolute being, there was no way for him to escape that trap.’

His game was over now... he had no choice but to hand over the key to us.
