Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start-Chapter 211: Crossing The Mountains
After resting by the stream for a few minutes, they began their journey, and while they were doing so, they stopped to enjoy the scenic spots that were in their path.
They saw a pond that had a pack of wolves with flame fur, a canyon that was probably the result of the devastating attacks Haden and The Remnant had used, a patch of colourful flowers, a small spring of fog and many more.
They also watched the various ether beasts that were now filling the red and black mountains.
A pale deer with obsidian antlers and hoofs, a mole with a fur so dark it seemed to absorb the light around it, a boar with metal skin and tusks, a bird that was entirely made of wind and many others.
None of the ether beasts attacked them because Rion was unknowingly flooding the area around himself with his potent killing intent.
Overall, their journey towards the first stop ended without any issues.
As they reached the first stop, evening was already at its half, and Rion quickly caught an ether beast for dinner.
Even though he himself didn’t have to eat, the same wasn’t true for the others, and for Dora, it was a must.
He skinned the ether beast, chopped the carcass, skewered the pieces with sharp branches, and after setting up a fire, he left them on it for cooking.
A few steps away from him, Zaelyane had already spread out the fur carpets and blankets she had in her leather bag, and Dora was already sitting in one of them.
Yuura was sitting on the branch of a whitewood tree, yawning.
Zaelyane was standing beside Rion, watching him with a flat expression.
All of them stayed silent and listened to the various sounds they normally didn’t hear at the Dhaevrak’s settlement.
Each sound, even if it was an insect’s buzz, leaves’ rustling, and an ether beast’s call, clearly reached their ears, and they listened to them as if they were music.
Time passed, and the sun finally dipped below the horizon.
The flames cast shadows across the forest, and the meat was finally cooked.
Rion took the skewers, pulled all the meat onto two wooden plates he had made a few minutes prior and while walking over to Dora with one of the plates, he said, "Yuura, get down from there and eat."
Yuura immediately jumped down from the tree and appeared beside the campfire. He crouched near the plate and began to eat.
Seeing Rion come towards herself, Dora smiled faintly and said, "I think it would be better for us to just continue walking even in the night... not like those strange beasts will attack us."
Rion shook his head, sat beside her and said, "And what would we gain by doing that? Let’s assume that by not taking breaks and moving through the night, we reach the town a few days earlier."
He placed the plate onto the carpet and picked up a piece from it.
"But what if your condition becomes worse? Your body is too weak because of whatever the prophecy did to kill you... And if your state gets worse, it would cost us even more time."
Dora frowned and said, "But—"
"Shhh." However, Rion stopped her by placing a finger on her lips.
She looked at him with a reluctant expression and fell silent.
He blew air onto the piece and moved it before her lips and mumbled, "Just trust my planning, alright?"
Nodding, she opened her lips and ate the whole piece in a single bite.
Shaking his head, Rion commented, "Take it slow, tiger."
A vein throbbed at her forehead, she pinched his arm and pointed at her open mouth.
He chuckled and gave another piece to her.
A few hours later, Dora and Yuura finished eating, and at the moment, Rion lay on the carpet and beside him was Dora.
Dora’s head was on Rion’s arm, and both of them were covered with a blanket.
A few steps away from them was Zaelyane and Yuura had decided to sleep atop the same tree and the same branch.
Rion’s other arm was on her waist, and his gaze was fixed on the upside-down teardrop under her lips.
"Why did you save her?" He mumbled before closing his eyes and tightening his embrace around her.
Dora’s eyes opened for a moment, and she mumbled in sleep, "Whaat...?"
"It’s nothing," he replied.
She nodded and pushed herself closer to him, her hand moved all over his face, and he asked with a faint smile, "What are you doing?"
She didn’t reply; instead, she pushed herself up and just as she felt his breath on her face, she kissed him on the lips and continued to do so for the next few moments.
Just as their lips parted, she said, "I love you..."
He smiled and responded, "I love you too."
She giggled and once again fell asleep; however, he didn’t allow himself any sleep. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
A few hours later, the sun was high in the sky, and they were already making their way towards the second stop.
However, unlike yesterday, now they were running towards their spot, and Rion was making sure that she didn’t overexert herself.
Yuura, on the other hand, had a wide grin stretched across his face as he could finally run.
Zaelyane was expressionless as usual, and Dora also seemed much brighter because of the events of the past night.
But Rion was worried for another reason, from the start, the ether beasts were fleeing away from them, but now that they themselves were running, the beasts would be scared even further and might leave the mountains, causing a beast wave to occur.
’I hope that doesn’t happen...’ he prayed inwardly and thought, ’That’s not the troupe I am going for...’
Even though he didn’t wish for a beast wave, the chances of it happening seemed pretty high.
Seeing the bright smiles on Dora and Yuura’s faces, he mumbled inwardly, ’Whatever, I’ll take care of.’
