Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 63 You Are No Different from Others
Chapter 63: Chapter 63 You Are No Different from Others
When Le Tong brought the coffee and pizza into the president’s office, Ji Rui glanced at the pizza on the table, frowned slightly, looked up at Le Tong, "Why is it not porridge?"
"We ran out at home. I didn’t have time to cook it last night. Also, about the breakfast I promised the president yesterday, I’m sorry, I’ve changed my mind."
Le Tong didn’t offer any explanation for her change of heart, nor did she give Ji Rui a chance to ask, she didn’t say a word more, turned around, and walked out.
After Le Tong left, Ji Rui ate the pizza and drank the coffee, feeling increasingly uncomfortable with every bite. Thus, the President Ji, who never pesters anyone, especially not women, surprisingly dialed the internal phone without hesitation to question his little secretary.
"Le Tong, what do you mean?"
When he said this, his expression remained indifferent, yet the piece of pizza in his hand met with unwarranted misfortune, unconsciously clutched in his palm, squished into a ball.
Sitting at the secretary’s desk, Le Tong, with an achy and heavy head, replied in a voice laced with nasal congestion.
"President, just as it says. This morning’s pizza is on me, as an apology for my change of mind."
Le Tong wouldn’t say, the porridge she cooked isn’t valuable, what’s valuable is her intention. But a man like Ji Rui isn’t worthy of enjoying her intentions, even if he would pay, she still wouldn’t want to sell it to him!
Ji Rui, hearing the "beep beep beep" busy signal from the phone, was slightly surprised, a nameless anger slowly rose from the depths of his heart, his little secretary actually dared to hang up on him?!
The treatment of being hung up upon, Ji Rui had hardly ever experienced, and to make him enjoy such a moment that sent a rush of blood to his head, surprisingly, was that little secretary he once thought to be obedient and docile?
Ji Rui couldn’t figure out the source of his anger, or maybe it’s just because his authority had been slighted, a mere secretary dared to refuse him, the president who holds her life and death power? Or are there other reasons?
Before he had time to figure it out, the phone on the desk rang, and Ji Rui’s anger inexplicably subsided a bit, "Speak!"
His tone was extremely harsh, because he thought it was Le Tong on the other end.
"Rui, did you start the day with gunpowder?"
The person on the other end was not Le Tong, but Yang Sheng.
"What’s up?" Ji Rui asked impatiently.
With Yang Sheng, Ji Rui was rarely so impatient.
Perhaps sensing that Ji Rui was not to be messed with today, Yang Sheng immediately put away his teasing tone and spoke in an extremely formal business manner.
"Send me a copy of that document from yesterday."
"Ask Le Tong!" Ji Rui said and slammed the phone down.
It’s not surprising he was so angry, yesterday after Le Tong had finished her check-up at the clinic, she suddenly left him, hopped into a taxi, and didn’t answer her phone or turned it off altogether.
This morning he originally planned to question her about why she didn’t answer his calls yesterday, but before he could, she threw another thing at him that made him even angrier.
If Ji Rui were a regular person, he might have the self-awareness to realize how much his actions yesterday hurt Le Tong.
But contrary to that, as the eldest son of the Ji Family, from the moment he was born, he’s been receiving the stars and the moon’s treatment, never having to act according to others’ moods, and only ever experienced others acting according to his.
No matter how outrageous his actions might be, rarely would anyone criticize or demand he corrects himself. Over time, he developed enough confidence in his speech and actions, subjectively believing he was always in the right, therefore hardly considering others’ feelings when speaking or acting.
Even though Le Tong clearly demonstrated her dissatisfaction with him, backtracking on her promise to make breakfast for him, he still failed to realize that it was his behavior that first harmed her, and her decision to change her mind was entirely justified.
Ji Rui was infuriated, and the pizza Le Tong had brought in, he only took a single bite.
He’s not a picky eater, and has never had any preferences regarding breakfast, or even lunch or dinner, he’d eat whatever there was to eat.
But today’s pizza felt difficult to swallow. Perhaps, it’s because it was vastly different from the soft and tender porridge he originally imagined?
Ji Rui pushed the pizza, missing only a small corner, to the edge of the desk, and bowed his head to start working.
Outside the office, Le Tong received a call from Yang Sheng, "Tongtong, send me the 10-year document from yesterday to my email."
"Okay, I’ll send it to you right now."
Le Tong wedged the phone between her shoulder, opened the folder, and sent the document Yang Sheng needed to his email.
"Done! Senior Brother, I’m sorry, I got up a bit late this morning so I didn’t bring you porridge."
Yang Sheng, who also had to settle for pizza and coffee for breakfast, still received a genuine apology filled with remorse from Le Tong.
"Silly, you’re not obligated to do these things for me. For lunch, whatever you want, Senior Brother will treat."
And Yang Sheng’s attitude towards the change in breakfast variety was worlds apart from Ji Rui’s.
Le Tong, with a feverish and dizzy head, even her craving seemed to have gone on strike, no matter how many delicious places Yang Sheng suggested, she refused, citing she was busy with a lot of work today.
"Alright, since Little Junior Sister isn’t accepting my gesture, I’ll just have to let President Ji accompany me for lunch."
Le Tong didn’t care who Yang Sheng had lunch with, hung up the phone, only feeling that the screen before her was a blur, and her head seemed to spin even more than before.
Le Tong held her head, closed her eyes for a moment of rest, upon opening her eyes, the situation seemed to have improved a bit.
In the past few days, she’s been helping Ji Rui and Yang Sheng organize other documents, as duties of the president’s secretary piled high on her desk.
These documents, under normal circumstances, wouldn’t be a challenge for Le Tong at all.
But today, she took out a document that needed translating, and after more than half an hour, she barely translated a page; besides feeling heavy and weary, her mind felt like it was stuffed with straw.
Le Tong measured her temperature with her forehead thermometer, it was still thirty-eight degrees, and in such a working state, Le Tong felt she probably needed to take a sick leave and rest.
Le Tong picked up several documents and brought them into the president’s office, Ji Rui was busy and didn’t look at her. She placed the documents on the table, her head spinning so severely that she had to hold onto the table with both hands and focus her blurred vision on Ji Rui’s face.
"President, I’d like to request a sick leave for a day."
Ji Rui didn’t look at her at all, only coldly remarked, "Too much work, not possible!"
Le Tong stared at him, wanting to say, even if you don’t let me take a leave, I can’t do much just sitting here, so instead, let me go home and rest for a day.
"Don’t forget, you’re my secretary, don’t think you’re any different!"
