Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 62 Not Even as Good as a Dog
Chapter 62: Chapter 62 Not Even as Good as a Dog
Le Tong walked in front, hearing the doctor behind ask Ji Rui, "Do you want to come in and take a look?"
Le Tong blushed and wanted to refuse, but then she thought, it was her who requested him to verify personally. If he didn’t come in, what would be the point?
Never mind, never mind, after all, there probably isn’t much to see. They’ll likely use a test kit for a urine test and then do an ultrasound to confirm, and that’s it.
"Yes, I’ll come in with her."
Sure enough, President Ji wasn’t comfortable with Le Tong going in alone.
Everyone here was arranged by him, yet he still didn’t trust them. This Ji Rui’s suspicion was indeed heavy.
Just as Le Tong expected, once inside, the doctor had her collect some urine samples and used a pregnancy test kit for an initial test.
"Rui, the test kit result is negative, no pregnancy. Let’s do an ultrasound to thoroughly confirm."
The doctor seemed quite diligent. Probably, he had done this for President Ji many times before. Thus, even though it was an orthopedic clinic, they were exceptionally skilled at these gynecological checks.
Le Tong obediently climbed onto the hospital bed, allowed the nurse to apply a sticky gel to her lower abdomen, and a curtain was drawn in front of the bed, but the ultrasound screen was placed outside the curtain.
"Rui, it’s certain, she is absolutely not pregnant."
Listening to the conversation between the doctor and Ji Rui, Le Tong inexplicably felt a deep sadness. She closed her eyes for a long moment before slowly sitting up, adjusting her clothes, and getting off the bed.
Standing in front of Ji Rui, Le Tong looked straight at him, her tone full of impatience.
"Can I leave now?" She didn’t even bother with formalities!
"Yes, you can go!"
Ji Rui’s expression was as usual, emotionless. But Le Tong knew, he must feel relieved now, as if a weight that had been on his mind for over two months had been lifted, how could he not be at ease?
Upon exiting the examination room, Le Tong walked quickly, leaving the tall and long-legged Ji Rui behind.
Ji Rui took large strides to catch up, "Le Tong!"
Le Tong ignored him, noticing a taxi parked at the clinic entrance as she approached the door. Abruptly, she ditched Ji Rui and ran out, opening the car door and getting inside.
"Driver, to Alley 18, Renhe Street, please."
Le Tong hastily threw out an address, exhaled a long breath, leaned her head back on the rear seat, and slowly closed her eyes.
"Alright, miss, if you’re tired, you can nap for a while. I’ll call you when we arrive."
The driver was a smiling uncle who thoughtfully said a word before starting the car and driving away from the clinic entrance.
Le Tong’s phone rang for a long time, and if not for the driver’s reminder, she really didn’t want to open her eyes to look.
Looking at the phone, the caller ID displayed "President Ji."
Le Tong couldn’t even be bothered to press the reject button, directly pressing the power-off button instead.
Le Tong never harbored much expectation for others, so the chances of being hurt were indeed very few and far between.
But for Ji Rui to repeatedly doubt and test her, to say it was not hurtful would be a lie.
Especially since beneath Le Tong’s seemingly optimistic and cheerful personality, there lay a deeply sensitive heart.
Although she couldn’t even recall that night’s intimate scenes with him, ultimately they had shared some close relationship, yet President Ji could heartlessly push her to such a corner; if not for his selfishness, then to him, she was less than even a dog.
Clearly, just this morning she thought that to have her own apartment, she must endure at any cost.
But now, she suddenly felt an impulsive urge to immediately hand in her resignation letter and have it sent to the Ji Family by express delivery tomorrow morning, so she would no longer have to see that face which chilled her heart.
Returning home with a heavy heart, under normal circumstances, when she returned early, Le Tong would often go over to tease little Wenwen across the street, but today, she didn’t even have the mood to play with children.
Le Tong casually heated some rice porridge to eat, took a bath, curled up on the sofa, turned on the TV, and set the volume extremely high. In her ears, other than the TV’s noise, there was no other sound.
Her eyes were fixed on the TV, but she had no idea about the actual content being broadcasted. She only saw a man shouting, a woman crying, but why the man shouted, why the woman cried, she didn’t know, nor did she care to know.
It was as if, with Ji Rui, or Yang Sheng, or with everyone around her, even though the other person stood vividly in front of her, why they were sad, she didn’t know, and why they were happy, she was equally clueless.
Conversely, when others looked at her, it was the same scenario.
To President Ji, looking at her was probably just like her watching the characters on the TV, even if he was sitting right in front of the TV, why she was sad, why she was exhausted had nothing to do with him, he didn’t care.
Le Tong, listless, hugged the throw pillow and slumped on the sofa, sitting for who knows how long. The TV program changed from a soap opera to a late-night shopping channel, and she somehow ended up curling on the sofa falling asleep.
In the middle of the night, she was awakened by a deep chill that went to her bones. Opening her eyes, she found the TV showing static; evidently, the channel had signed off. Checking the time, it was nearly 4 a.m.
"Achoo!" Le Tong sneezed intensely, tears and snot surging forth together.
Le Tong clumsily wiped her face and nose with a tissue, then got up to wash her face with hot water in the washroom, climbed into bed, covered herself with a blanket, and continued to sleep.
In a daze, Le Tong felt as if she were in a high-temperature furnace, her whole body burning up.
Her consciousness slowly returned, and she raised a hand to touch her forehead. freewёbnoνel-com
Her forehead was scorching like an iron. With all her years caring for her mother, she estimated it must be close to forty degrees.
She threw off the blanket, put on a thick coat, and supported herself against the wall to the cabinet, carried the medicine box back to bed, lay down, placed a thermometer in her mouth, and after two minutes took it out to see, as expected, thirty-nine degrees.
She rummaged through the medicine box for a heavier dose of antipyretic, checked the time, and seeing it wasn’t yet six, she decided to sleep a bit longer.
Le Tong had always had good health, perhaps with enough sleep, the fever would subside.
However, this time Le Tong overestimated her health. When the alarm rang, she was still aching all over, unbearably hot.
She took her temperature again, thirty-eight degrees, one degree lower than before; it seemed the illness was alleviating.
Le Tong felt dizzy, but she propped herself up to finish washing and changing into her work uniform. Fearing the cold, she deliberately added a large, thick down coat over her business suit, and wrapped a scarf tightly around her face.
Before leaving, Le Tong called a pizza place to order two pizzas, and with her slow return to the company, the pizza delivery boy had just brought the steaming hot pizzas to the office as she arrived.
