Transmigration: On the Gossip Front-Chapter 1900 - 1901: Female Passerby Intellectual Youth 43
You can even get dried chicken? Yao Ying and Zhang Wei exchanged a glance; they knew their daughter was doing well on the farm but hadn’t paid much attention, thinking she was simply reporting good news and not the bad.
Who would have thought she could get dried chicken? It’s really a good thing.
The three members of the Zhang Family laughed and chatted as they pushed their bicycles away, while the exhausted Wang Yan finally managed to unload her belongings from the ship. By the time she disembarked, the bustling dock was nearly empty.
Soon, even the few remaining people at the dock left, and the ship was already sounding its horn, preparing to depart.
The staff retreated into the dock office, leaving only Wang Yan with her luggage.
She was utterly shocked; her parents had promised they would definitely pick her up at the dock. She had even specifically told her family she would buy rice to bring back.
Everything was arranged meticulously; she thought buying some rice was enough. Yet, when she saw vegetables were nice too, she bought some cabbage, greens, and soybeans, knowing her family would pick her up.
But who would have thought, despite all the promises, no one showed up, making Wang Yan furious.
Back when boarding the ship, she had some help; now she’s alone and has no idea how she’ll get home.
Even if she takes the bus, it’s quite a distance to the bus stop, and she would still have to load and unload things, not to mention the walk from the bus stop to home.
What should she do? Looking at the luggage on the ground, Wang Yan almost wanted to cry, "What should I do?"
The staff in the office noticed Wang Yan lingering for a long time, initially thinking her family hadn’t come, but after waiting for quite a while and still seeing no one, they decided to ask.
After learning her family hadn’t come to pick her up, the staff suggested directly, "There are tricycle drivers here who can help transport items, you can negotiate the price yourselves."
Tricycle drivers, huh? That costs money, damn it. If only Zhang Yu hadn’t left, she would definitely help her transport things home. Wang Yan was really upset with Zhang Yu. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
She saw Zhang Wei come to pick up Zhang Yu in the cabin. They were friends, after all. Why couldn’t she just lend a hand? It was just on the way.
Now look, she’s forced to spend money to get home; it’s just too much. It really is too much. When she sees Zhang Yu next time, she’ll definitely have a word with her.
For now, having no other option, she had to hire a driver; there was no other way to get the things home.
Wang Yan thought her family was busy, hence forgetting to pick her up. Upon arriving home, she found out her brother and elder sister were both there, one on rest day and the other due to equipment maintenance at the unit, which put the whole factory on holiday.
This made Wang Yan furious, leading to a quarrel with her brother and sister, "You knew I’d bring things home, yet you would rather stay home than go to the dock to pick me up."
Seeing Wang Yan with big bags, carrying a lot of things, her brother and elder sister felt a little guilty, recalling her mention in the letter.
But the guilt was short-lived; Wang Yan’s constant whining made them quite unhappy, completely erasing what little guilt they felt, leading to a full-blown argument.
Exhausted and hungry, coupled with being one against two, there was no way Wang Yan could win against her brother and sister, leaving her suppressed, determined to complain once her parents returned.
Rubbing her grumbling stomach, she decided to focus on grabbing something to eat first. But entering the kitchen, she was stunned to find nothing at all.
Her brother and sister noticed she stopped arguing, went directly to the kitchen, and looked for food, "Never seen someone like you, just home and straight to the kitchen, acting like a little beggar."
Don’t be misled; the brother and sister usually bicker amongst themselves but always unite against the younger ones.
"Brother, you’re wrong. She’s even worse than a beggar now. Didn’t she always fawn over that rich classmate of hers? Now that the person is on the farm, they completely ignore her," said her elder sister, giggling.
Wang Yan often heard people calling her a beggar, oh, from Zhao Yu’s lot, but she didn’t care. As long as she could cozy up to Zhang Yu, that was good for her—a practical advantage.
She used to get quite a lot from Zhang Yu—food, clothing, supplies, most importantly, money. Back then, her parents and siblings treated her amazingly well.
She wasn’t unaware that it was because she could bring things back from Zhang Yu, but she figured they were family, after all. Yet, in the eyes of her brother and sister, she turned out to be nothing but a beggar—a huge beggar.
This infuriated her; she immediately cooked the rice she bought. It was her rice; why shouldn’t she eat it?
Her brother and sister were dumbfounded, recalling Wang Wangyan’s mention of bringing rice back in her letter; they thought it wouldn’t be much, just her food supply for the days home.
Bringing food supply home—wasn’t that normal? No one would expect her to freeload at home, exploiting them, right? Who would have known she bought so much rice?
"Xiao Yan, how many pounds of rice did you bring?" Her elder sister looked at the large sack of rice, getting surprised.
"I don’t know," Wang Yan said angrily. Once the rice was ready, she dug some old pickles from the cupboard and started eating.
The aroma of cooked rice wafts through the air; her brother and sister felt their stomachs growling too. They saw Wang Yan only focused on herself, eating in big gulps without inviting them, making them unhappy as well. "Hey, Wang Yan, how can you be so selfish, not even inviting us!"
Her brother and sister’s behavior amused her; she wanted to retort but reconsidered—why bother arguing—wasn’t it better to enjoy the fragrant rice? Especially since they were already eating directly, there was no point in arguing.
Wang Yan’s parents came home carrying meals from the canteen and found an extra person in the home. But more importantly, there was a fragrance of rice permeating the air.
"Did you all cook?" Wang Yan’s mother asked, upset, then looked directly at Wang Yan she hadn’t seen in a while, "Wang Yan, what’s the matter, why must you squander things at home?"
She never liked this daughter; Wang Yan wasn’t pretty, but she was calculating, and it made her angry.
"How could I be squandering things at home?" Wang Yan was deeply hurt by her mother’s unjudged words.
"I said in the letter that I’d bring farm rice home."
"It’s my stuff," Wang Yan said with a choked voice.
