Chapter 351: Chapter 351; Audition of talents 1

He didn’t kiss her. Instead, he held her gaze, his own eyes simmering with a complex mix of desire, amusement, and sheer, unadulterated possession.

"Tempting.... so tempting..." he said finally, his voice dangerously soft. "But that is very insufficient."

She pulled back slightly, feigning offense. "Insufficient? You drive a hard bargain. Look at me and tell me, am I not worthy of anything more?"

"I am a businessman, Fei Fei," he stated, his hands tightening slightly on her waist, "Your body is already mine. You’ll have to offer something else."

She laughed again, the sound carefree and oblivious to the dark truth of his words. "Fine! Then I offer you a partnership. A stake in the empire I’m building. It will be profitable, I promise. You’ll get your investment back, with considerable interest. You need to believe in my words."

He watched her, this brilliant, vibrant woman in his arms, dreaming of empires while he plotted her cage. The contradiction was a physical pain in his chest.

"Draw up the proposal," he said, his tone shifting to one of business-like finality, though his eyes remained locked on hers. "List every expense, every projected revenue stream. I’ll have my analysts go over it."

Her face immediately lit up with triumph. "So you agree?"

"I agree to consider it," he corrected, though they both knew his consideration was just a formality. He would fund her dream, not because of the profit, but because it was her dream. And because, for now, funding it was the only way to control it, and her.

"It will be the best investment you’ve ever made," she declared confidently, leaning in to finally press a soft, quick kiss to his lips.

As she pulled away, chattering about which department she wanted to fund first, Huo Ting Cheng held her close, his gaze drifting over her shoulder to the city beyond.

He would give her the loan. He would give her the world. And in return, he would ensure her world never extended beyond the walls he could secure. The gilded cage was simply being redecorated to look like a throne, and she, his beautiful, oblivious songbird, was happily designing it herself.

Tang Fei remained nestled in Huo Ting Cheng’s lap, her energy infectious as she laid out her vision, her fingers tracing shapes on his chest as if drawing the blueprints of her empire directly over his heart.

"And the main training hall," she was saying, her eyes alight, "it can’t just be a sterile room with mirrors. I want it to feel inspired, with natural light and these specially sprung floors to prevent injuries for the dancers. It’s more expensive, but it’s necessary. And the recording studios, nothing but the best acoustic engineering. If we’re going to compete with the top labels, we need the sound quality to be impeccable from day one..." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Huo Ting Cheng listened, his silence not one of disregard, but of intense absorption. He watched the passion animate her features, the way her brow furrowed in thought before smoothing out with a new idea. This was the woman he had pulled from the abyss, the fierce, brilliant spirit he would preserve at any cost. Her dreams were a fragile, beautiful flame, and he would be the bell jar that protected it from any gust of wind that might extinguish it.

"...and that’s just the capital expenditure," she finished, finally pausing for breath. She looked up at him, a mix of excitement and trepidation in her eyes. "So? Am I asking for too much?"

He didn’t answer immediately. His gaze drifted over her shoulder, through the glass, to where Huo Qi stood watch inside. Their eyes met for a fraction of a second, and a silent understanding passed between them. Huo Qi gave a nearly imperceptible nod. The security preparations were underway.

"No," Huo Ting Cheng said, his voice pulling her attention back. He cupped her chin, his thumb stroking her jaw. "You’re not asking for too much. You’re building a legacy. And a legacy requires a solid foundation." A faint, calculated smile touched his lips. "Consider the loan approved. The funds will be transferred to the project’s account. You’ll have full autonomy."

The joy that erupted on her face was a physical warmth against him. "Really? Just like that? You won’t even wait for the proposal?"

"I’ve heard all I need to hear," he said, his tone implying he was referring to more than just budget lines and equipment lists. He was investing in her happiness, in the distraction this project provided, in the controlled environment it created. "But," he added, his voice dropping to a more intimate, possessive timbre, "this does make you irrevocably indebted to me, Mrs. Huo."

She laughed, a light, melodic sound that seemed to mock the darkness tightening around her. "And what are the terms of my repayment, Mr. Huo?" she teased, looping her arms around his neck.

His eyes darkened, the amusement in them replaced by a smoldering intensity that promised both pleasure and possession. "Lifetime exclusivity," he murmured, his lips hovering just a breath from hers. "Your time, your attention, your... loyalty. All of it. Mine."

It was a vow wrapped in a threat, a declaration of love that sounded like a sentence.

"Those are my favorite terms," she whispered, completely misinterpreting the grim finality in his tone, and closed the distance to kiss him.

As she kissed him, utterly trusting and absorbed, Huo Ting Cheng’s eyes opened, meeting the grim gaze of Dr. Zu Zhi, who had remained inside. The psychologist’s expression was one of profound unease. He saw the trap being beautifully, lovingly laid.

Huo Ting Cheng held his friend’s stare over Tang Fei’s shoulder, his own gaze unyielding. He would be her patron, her protector, and her warden. He would fund her dreams and make himself the center of her world, until the world outside held no appeal for her at all.

When the kiss broke, Tang Fei rested her head on his shoulder, sighing contentedly as she looked out at the glittering city. "Our empire," she whispered.
