Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 175: Words of Advice
Liu Mohe didn’t expect that after following her eldest and second sisters to the county town, she would immediately encounter Yi Roujing, who could generously hand out milk candies to others. Thinking about how her family couldn’t marry into such a family, she felt quite disappointed.
What was more upsetting was that the two-plus years of good days were suddenly over, and she had to start working. Her parents had been constantly arguing over work matters lately.
The usually honest and straightforward Liu Guangmao cursed Lv Amei, saying she had no brains and that their difficulties were all her fault. If she had been a little kinder to Gouwa, they wouldn’t have ended up like this.
Considering Lv Amei’s temperament, she couldn’t tolerate such accusations, not even from her own husband. So the verbal spats gradually escalated into physical fights, leaving no peace in the household.
Liu Mohe’s two sisters were adamant about not working, but the family’s reputation had been tainted because of this, and no respectable family would agree to marry such a daughter-in-law, especially with such a family background.
Liu Moli, through the Li Family siblings, had gotten to know quite a few people, most of them loafers, but some were handsome. Liu Moli fell for one, so she frequently came to the county town.
Liu Molin wanted to make another effort. Today’s visit was to go to the food factory to find Yi Weiliang. Liu Mohe chose to accompany Liu Molin, thinking that having a young girl like herself present might make others soften a bit more.
"Eldest sister, eldest sister." Liu Mohe called out to Liu Molin, who was buying candies. Liu Molin frowned slightly, turned around, and saw Yi Roujing standing behind, her expression changing instantly to show delight.
"Roujing." Liu Molin squeezed through the crowd to move towards Yi Roujing.
"Hello." Yi Roujing nodded at Liu Molin.
"Roujing, aren’t you working at the staff hospital of the food factory? Why are you off today?" Liu Molin felt that the heavens favored her, letting her meet Yi Roujing. Yi Weiliang valued this sister the most, so with her company, she would surely meet him at the food factory.
If she could build a good relationship with Yi Roujing and become friends, and spent more time interacting with Yi Weiliang, he was bound to like her.
"I worked the night shift yesterday, so today is my day off." Yi Roujing explained truthfully.
"Roujing, can we talk at your place? We only met briefly last time and didn’t get to know each other well. Even if nothing works out between me and your third brother, we’re not that far apart in age and could still be friends." Liu Molin said with a smile.
Liu Mohe agreed with her eldest sister’s words. Although Yi Weiliang was a good choice, Yi Roujing’s husband was a teacher at the County First Middle School. If they could meet better people and have better options, that would be the best outcome.
Yi Roujing looked at Liu Molin without speaking, and Liu Molin tried harder, "I’ve heard from Jasmine that Roujing, your mother-in-law is Xipei’s aunt. My sister Moli is great friends with Xipei."
Compared to Li Xipei’s maliciousness, the Liu Family Sisters were simply naïve fools, greedy but essentially selfish. They resembled Wang Qiushuang more, and dealing with such people could be tiring and draining.
"How about we go sit in the park for a while?" Yi Roujing suggested. Liu Molin agreed immediately, and the three headed to the shady Huaixi County Park.
Calling it a park was generous; it only had some trees and flowers, but there were wooden benches suitable for chatting.
Yi Roujing chose a shaded spot and sat gracefully on a bench under the trees, her demeanor elegant and refined. Liu Molin felt a pang of jealousy. Clearly, they were both from rural backgrounds, but just because she had stayed in the city, things were different now. If she had that chance, she could also change; she was determined to marry into the city.
"I wonder what you want to talk to me about?" Yi Roujing asked bluntly.
"Roujing, I’ve known your third brother since we were young. Your grandfather’s from our Wan Tang Production Team, and we’ve seen each other as kids. We’re familiar, which is what you want when marrying a wife, right?" Liu Molin pondered.
"I think your third brother and I haven’t interacted much and aren’t deeply acquainted yet. If we meet a few more times, we might become more certain about each other." Liu Molin said.
"But as a single girl, it’s not appropriate for me to go directly to the factory gate to look for someone. So Roujing, could you help arrange a meeting with your third brother?" Liu Molin asked with hopeful eyes.
"What if I said I couldn’t?" Yi Roujing looked directly at Liu Molin as she replied.
Liu Molin’s smiling face froze; she hadn’t expected Yi Roujing to say that. Even just for face value, she thought, one shouldn’t reject outright.
"Roujing, you haven’t asked your third brother yet. What if he actually wants to see me?" Liu Molin fiddled with her curly hair.
"If a man doesn’t seek you out, it means he doesn’t want to see you." Yi Roujing stated honestly, "Having been married, I know a bit more about this than you do."
"If he truly wanted to marry someone, he should make every effort to achieve that. If the other party takes no action, it means they don’t want to marry." Yi Roujing believed she’d made her point clear.
"And as far as I know, when my third brother went home, didn’t Caihua deliver the message to your family about this?" Yi Roujing inquired.
Liu Molin tightened her grip, feeling a wave of anger. Of course, they had brought it up, but she was unwilling to give up.
"Sister, did you hear any gossip about our family?" Liu Mohe suddenly spoke up.
Liu Molin immediately caught on, "Roujing, this really doesn’t concern us. My mother was a bit overboard, but we never starved Gouwa. We’ve treated him fairly well. It’s not like there aren’t worse families in the village, and honestly, I wasn’t aware of it."
"Sister, my eldest sister is telling the truth. We three sisters have been good to Gouwa, especially me. Gouwa has practically grown up with me over the past couple of years; we’re very close." Liu Mohe said with teary eyes, looking quite aggrieved, "My eldest sister is truly good. Don’t believe outsiders’ words and dislike us."
"Do you know why, that day at the entrance of the state-run restaurant, I immediately gave that child a candy when I saw him?" Yi Roujing sighed, looking at Liu Mohe as she spoke.
"Because you’re a good person, sister." Liu Mohe immediately responded.
"Right, I indeed am a good person, and I couldn’t bear to see that child licking the candy wrapper, saying the candy was sweet." Yi Roujing said sincerely, "By saying this, you should understand. You’re very smart."
Upon hearing this, Liu Mohe’s face turned pale, and she hurriedly lowered her head in distress under Yi Roujing’s gaze.
"Actually, everyone, regardless of age, tells lies. It’s normal; I’ve done it too." Yi Roujing still considered Liu Mohe too young. At her age, it’s difficult to distinguish right from wrong, and she was prone to rebellion.
"Sometimes lying is to comfort others, which is a kind lie. The opposite would be malicious." Yi Roujing explained, "You’re a very smart child, and if you study hard, it will surely pay off in the future. Knowledge, once learned, is yours."
