Chapter 70: Zenos’s Conclusion

"AHAHAHAHA!"

Zylus walked into the medical room. Zenos lay in bed, the TV screen just in front of him, so he didn’t need to adjust his back to watch it. Wired blue tubes wired into his body, towels covered all around him except for his face, as he watched the screen above him, joyfully.

Zylus smiled purely, "So, this is where you had been."

He looked at the screen, Zenos was watching a comedy tv show famous inside the Demon Realm. But for Zylus, they sounded like some of the worst jokes he’s ever heard.

"Why can’t Demons face fear?!" The comedian on the screen asked, and Zenos let out a hump of curiosity. "It’s because we’re Demons!"

"Ahahahah!" Zenos laughed, yet he couldn’t move his body; he felt restricted, yet still felt joy somehow.

Seriously, does this guy find everything funny?

"It’s you, isn’t it?" Zenos spoke as the volume on the screen went down, "Zylus." He declared, sensing the very presence he was around.

This was the same medical bed Zylus had been placed in before when he fought Zenos, so now finding Zenos inside that very bed felt... Ironic.

"You knew?" Zylus asked with an apologetic tone, "I guess nothing gets by you." He took a seat just in front of Zenos right after, and the comedian continued to let out weird jokes.

"You know what someone told me once!" The comedian yelled, his voice carried a joyful demeanor, "That being kind is the same as being mean..."

The tension changed, and both Zenos and Zylus focused their gaze on the screen.

"Because..." the comedian continued, "they’re both free!"

But this time, none of them laughed, except for the crowd that circled the comedian on the screen. Zenos exhaled.

"Anyways," Zenos couldn’t turn his neck to face Zylus; the pillow below him was restricting it. "What have you been up to lately?" He smiled, somehow, amidst the darkness that filled the room.

"I heard you can’t fight anymore." Zylus said coldly, "seems that stab put you through hell."

"Me? I was getting tired of fighting either way, so the Spirit finally let me take a break from the battle." Zenos added, inhaling slowly.

"I’ll find a way to heal that injury, trust me." Zylus declared, "Just wait for that time."

"That’s not going to happen," Zenos had been met with his reality, and he accepted it, "I’m a fighter... not a dreamer."

"But I’ll-"

"Hey, Zylus." Zenos cut him off smoothly, "Ever wondered why when Michael stabbed into your leg, that wound was rapidly healed, but mine was unable to?" He asked, and the tension grew.

"Michael’s weapon did damage to both of us; I just got lucky," Zylus replied. He bent forward slightly, fidgeting with his hands.

"I’ve been thinking about it this entire time." Zenos whispered, "Sheer luck doesn’t exist in a battle; no one can ever be lucky."

"Probably another factor, maybe my defensive prowess compared to yours," Zylus added, tapping his thumbs together.

"Couldn’t be, I had a high defensive statistic, yet, this wound can’t be healed, not by the smallest margin." Zenos denied him, and his gaze continued to stare at the comedian.

"Well, either way, I got lucky." Zylus had accepted it already: "These consequences happen to others, but for some reason, never to me."

"No, Zylus, you’re not getting it." Zenos sucked water from a straw coming downwards off a metal hat he had on. It started pouring through a tube into his mouth, "It’s the fact that..."

Every one of them paused, the low voice of the comedian felt louder than before...

Much louder.

"Come on!" The comedian on the screen yelled, "That has to be funny!"

None of them placed their attention on the screen, but they looked at it, for some reason.

"There’s a possibility that you have to account for..." Zenos continued, Zylus’s gaze still focused on the screen.

"You’re a..."

...

Bam!

Zylus slammed the door shut behind him, giving Zenos his final words of apology, before leaving the medical room and going back to his dorm for the night.

Kash walked by him while he started exiting the building, "Leaving already?" He asked, "You barely spoke with him."

Zylus walked past him, and in that moment, he whispered politely to Kash, "I don’t need to anymore, I know what I must do now."

Kash nodded gently. He felt Zylus’s tone suddenly change, and didn’t want to dig deeper into what may have gone on between the two of them.

"That couldn’t be true..." Zylus wondered out loud, "Right?"

He refused to believe what Zenos told him, and what he would have to believe once more. But, suddenly, his system interrupted him from fidgeting with those matters any more than he had already.

[Notification Received!]

[Message From Emilia Scorce!]

[From Emilia Scorce: Hey, idiot! I hope you didn’t forget about our meetup tomorrow! 5 PM at Daslia Mall!]

Zylus grinned, "Anything but calling it a date." He giggled slightly, walking down an alley that led to his dorm.

[To Emilia Scorce: Don’t worry, I didn’t forget. I’ll be there.]

"Time to go look for a presentable outfit at the ’Deep Market.’" Zylus paused as he changed his pathway, "That takes me back."

The ’Deep Market.’ This was the same place he and Frey initially went on together to get some food, and the same place where he first met the chef himself...

Jace.

And so he continued to walk there, hoping to get something cheap to wear for tomorrow’s date with Emilia. He didn’t care much to impress, but he had to look presentable; he’s never been on a date afterall.

...

After quite a long while, he finally stuck his foot into a flat concrete path, where lights shimmered across, street vendors covered the left and right sides, and of course, a pathway with a concrete floor that went all the way through.

[Arrived!]

[Deep Market!]

"Time to look for a nice fitted suit."
