Transcending Realms With My Leveling System As A Demon-Chapter 69: Money Problems
"I forgot, I have no money," he said out loud, as Emilia already left his side.
Zylus exhaled slowly, rubbing the back of his neck as he looked towards the blue sky. Things had piled up quickly, so that most of the time, he required currency, but he never learned what currency this realm uses; on the contrary.
Back in the human realm, they used gold, silver, bronze, and copper, the typical isekai trope they would hand down as a baseline for money.
Just then, a light flashed before his eyes, and he already knew who it was.
"Hey, Zylus." Frey said, amused, taking a picture of him, "This marks the day you finally made your appearance."
Zylus didn’t waste any time: "Thank you for the warm welcome, but after that event, did you and the others ever speak again?" He asked.
"No," Frey responded with an unfortunate tone, "we thought it would’ve been better if we separated for now. Even though we’re a strong squad, there’s a quote that I’ve heard once..."
She paused, then continued.
"The greater your power, the greater your defeats."
It hit Zylus sourly, a feeling he had experienced thousands of times before. At the same time, Zylus finally remembered who he wanted to meet with before anyone else.
His fingers curled slightly at his sides as old memories surfaced, fights won at unbearable costs, moments where strength hadn’t saved anyone.
Power had never felt like a gift to him, maybe early on, but not now. It was a responsibility that dragged others into danger simply by standing near him.
"So, I see." He paused, "It’s not any of your faults, Frey."
"What do you mean?" She asked, leaning closer.
"It’s mine, and it’s a burden I need to carry, not for yours to keep." He declared, tightening the grip of his fists, his eye contact aimed sharply back to Frey’s luscious beauty.
"I hate people who try to play the ’blame me’ archetype," Frey added, "it’s a fault that we all created, so it’s one we all have to carry. So stop sulking, and be serious."
"Okay," Zylus responded, "I’m going to go meet him now..."
"You are?" She asked nervously, "Are you sure? I was too scared myself."
"I have to face him, even if I don’t want to."
Frey nodded calmly, then walked away from him. For the rest of today, they didn’t do much, not at all. Kash was the head representative today; all they did was physical exercises, runs, sprints, workouts, and more team games. Zylus was thinking about someone the entire workout, yet he still got first in them all.
The entire time, Fred and Emilia were distancing themselves from Zylus, even though they talked regularly to him earlier.
[Time: 3:00 PM]
"Ring! Ring!"
Once the course ended for today, he walked up to Frey again, "Is he at the medical room inside the same building?"
"Yes, he is." Frey responded, "I-I..."
"What’s up?"
"It’s nothing," she smiled back, hesitating to say what she should’ve.
"Alright, see you later then." He walked past her, following the path where every other cadet walked through, until finally separating from the rest.
The building was right beside the field, it was where Kash’s office remained.
...
"Sorry, you can’t come in." The head female agent, who was guarding the building.
"Why can’t I? I’ve been inside here multiple times," Zylus calmly said out loud.
"It’s because-"
"Let him in," Kash’s voice came in from behind. He stepped towards them calmly, "he’s with me."
She lowered her gaze, "Y-yes, sir!"
Kash had the same leather suit on with that exact name tag, one that they use because Spirits are unable to replicate.
She bowed downwards, pointing her hand inside the building.
"Come right in!"
Kash walked inside, then Zylus followed in from behind.
"Should’ve let me in earlier," Zylus grinned as he looked down on the agent.
...
Once they entered, the entire mood changed.
"Here to meet him, aren’t ya?"
"Yes, I am," Zylus said with a saddened expression.
"He’s on the second floor, Medics room." Kash paused as he waved a hand goodbye, walking to the left, "elevator is on the right, goodbye now."
"You’re not mad at me?" Zylus asked, blaming himself once more.
"Why would I?" Kash asked. "You’re part of this race; I could never be angry at one as you." He smiled, slightly cheering Zylus back up.
"Alright then, I’ll go speak to him now." Zylus decided to walk towards the stairs instead of the elevator.
"Stairs?" Kash whispered as he walked away, "What a noble man he is."
And now, Zylus was going to meet his old battle partner once more.
Zenos Mezino.
One of the friends Zylus had the opportunity to make during the cadet course, for now, was his only trusted male friend. Everyone else had betrayed him by his side, but now, could Zenos do the same?
Zylus didn’t want to linger on this thought any longer, so he decided to continue.
Step. Step. Step.
He finished walking up the modern wooden stairs, crafted into the corner of the building. There were directions on a screen that hung in the room, displaying the coordinates of every room.
[← Grocery Department]
[→ Medical Room]
Below those two, more options appeared.
[Uninterested in those two above?]
...
[Continue Walking Forward To The Gym]
[Continue All The Way Right To The Sports Area]
[Use The Elevator For Floor 3!]
And then, he spun to the right direction, where he was meant to meet Zenos, inside the medical area.
As he walked through the beautifully decorated area, the halls seemed bright as a window across from him shone with sunlight in all its glory.
"You’re here to talk to the patient? I heard you were coming from Kash." A nurse walked up to him, and as she began walking away.
"Yes, I am." Zylus declared, walking in her direction.
"Room 1A." She paused, exhaling slowly, "he’s been having a lot of fun lately."
Zylus nodded, then started walking away, "sounds just like him." He grinned, sliding the door, where a sign labeling ’1A’ hung.
"AHAHAHAHA!"
