’This means I can still use my powers, that’s a relief.’ Zylus thought, ’I was kind of aware of this, since that Lucas guy sensed my overwhelming strength, just a small double checker.’

Though the question remained...

’How did he even sense my strength? None of my systems was activated, so how could it really have been possible for him to do that?’

That thought lingered in Zylus’s head, across the entire trip from the restaurant they had just dined in up until the front door of Zylus and Luca’s dorm room.

The dorms were right beside the academy, simply separated just like how townhouses would be, but in this case, it was only one floor. One small room with two people to live in, beds across from each other.

It bore similarities to the cadet course’s rooms, they granted, but this, for some reason, felt more natural, like it was already lived in before.

The shower was pretty clean, the kitchen was neat, and the room itself just seemed modern with a nicely built wooden interior and huge windows at the back of their dorm.

Luca gave Zylus a key to keep, so he can come and unlock the room any time he chooses to do so.

The only ’negative’ Zylus could really think of was how there were only two rooms, one for the bathroom, and one bedroom, which was pretty spacious. There was no space for a ’living room,’ in which Zylus just decided to call his bedroom exactly that.

For him, it had just made the most sense, and he kept it to himself, not telling Luca about his own opinions.

Back in the restaurant, Luca had paid for all three of them, and he talked about winning a ’gamble’ or some ’bet’ and being able to pay off many bills now, including inviting his friends over for a drink and some cheap food.

Even if it wasn’t expensive, it was a very kind thing of him to do, which Zylus highly respected.

In this world, they don’t use gold, silver, bronze, copper, or any minerals in general as income. They use paper cash, generated from banks. Most individuals have normal jobs and get paid hourly wages, while some use their awakened abilities and risk their lives in order to gain a quick buck.

Either way, all Zylus had to do was wait until the ceremony tomorrow and finally go on some adventures.

The academy itself sounded pretty brutal, but not to Zylus, because he was anxious to meet other opponents or complete his objective in general.

This information was truly the only bit his own system was kindly giving him. Though part of the excitement he received was trying to now defeat her himself.

He finally came to understand, or assume, what could have been one of her vulnerabilities. She couldn’t kill him because at this point, if she wanted to, she would’ve done it by now.

Not at all, there was something else. And similarly to how his system displayed separate stages, her blessing can tend to be about something with ’trials.’

Zylus tried coming up with separate conclusions, but at the same time, didn’t want to rush the case; all he really wanted to do was find a base idea of what she could do.

Procrastinating wasn’t going to help his case, so expanding his knowledge was the only way he could really reach closer to his goal.

"Erasing myself," Zylus whispered, "At this point, I feel like an extra, similar to the ones I’ve read in other novels."

At this hour, Luca was already asleep; three hours had passed since they came back from the burger place. Both he and Luca walked Zelda home safely, because they couldn’t leave a vulnerable women alone at night, that would’ve been too dangerous.

And during their walk back, Luca explained their schedules, because they had the same one. Though tomorrow was a special case.

While classes usually begin at 8:00 AM, tomorrow it would begin at 9:00 AM. All because of a simple awakening ceremony, which intrigued Zylus to the max.

It was already 12 in the morning, so Zylus was about to go to bed, because Luca set an alarm on the clock just beside his bed.

While Zylus started to roll a blanket over him, he blinked lightly, and that was when he saw a shadow of his own self, just in front of him.

’I’m hallucinating now,’ Zylus thought, ’Hallucinating images of myself is a new low I didn’t know I could reach.’

He hadn’t even showered today, not because he was clean but because he was too lazy, which felt weird for once. Zylus wasn’t the type of person to simply let something go because he felt bothered.

Maybe this was what you would call ’Character development,’ he thought.

That image of him began walking towards him, grinning, and his eyes showed a new type of malice.

Zylus didn’t shake; he wasn’t afraid, but he stayed awake, watching the hallucination his own thoughts created.

It stopped just by his bed, hands behind his back. And that was when it shrank, into the kid he once was, bearing that very same appearance.

’Looking back now, it just shows how much I grew.’

The kid maintained that same type of malice, then widened his grin.

"You’re pathetic."

Those words didn’t come from the roommate who was snoring loudly just beside Zylus, not even himself.

It came from the very same kid who he once was, and the hallucination he was now staring at.

"I didn’t know nightmares could get this real."

The kid version of Zylus chuckled, hands maintained crossed behind his back, angling his face 45 degrees to the right.

"But how can you call this a nightmare?" He asked, "When the fun had just started."
