Chapter 52: Chapter 52: You Just Purely Hate Me

Vera Yves took out her phone and played the recording of their conversation.

Cecilia Vaughn’s face turned deathly pale, "Vera Yves, you’re so despicable!"

"Miss Vaughn, you truly know how to shift the blame." Vera looked at her coldly, "If it weren’t for your meticulous scheming against me, would I have to be ’despicable’?"

"Even if Winston knows, so what?" Cecilia tried to remain calm, "He’s already aware that I’m no saint. I’ve had nearly twenty years of history with him; do you really think you can compare?"

"Whether I can compare or not, you’ll know if you try."

Vera turned to leave, but Cecilia rushed to get out of bed, trying to snatch her phone.

Vera quickly evaded her.

Cecilia, in her haste, fell to the ground. Just as she was about to curse, she spotted the figure at the door and immediately changed her demeanor, looking at Vera with pitiful tears, "Sister-in-law, I was wrong, please don’t let Grandma send me abroad!"

Vera frowned, and the next moment, the door was pushed open as Winston Valentine walked in, his tall figure imposing.

Vera marveled at Cecilia’s acting; truly the daughter of an award-winning actress.

Cecilia cried, tears like a sorrowful blossom, "Sister-in-law, I’m begging you!"

"The ground is cold, get up first." Winston walked over to them and helped Cecilia up from the ground.

Cecilia clung to his arm with tearful desperation, "Winston, could you ask Sister-in-law on my behalf? She insists on having Grandma send me abroad! I don’t want to leave my mom, I don’t want to wander alone in a foreign land like a ghost."

Winston spoke softly, "You should rest well for now."

Vera stood there, watching him comfort Cecilia, her heart heavy. If he knew Cecilia’s true nature, would he still treat her so gently?

After helping Cecilia back into bed, Winston grabbed Vera’s hand and led her out of the room.

"The doctor said Cecilia can’t be stressed now. You shouldn’t come to see her anymore," Winston said calmly.

Vera was somewhat incredulous, "So you knew I was coming to the hospital and rushed here, afraid I’d harm her?"

Winston looked at her slightly flushed face from anger, "Vera, I’m not afraid you’ll harm her. Rest assured, once she’s recovered, I’ll arrange for her to go abroad."

Vera was surprised; Winston would actually take the initiative to send Cecilia abroad?

She was a person he painstakingly brought back.

There was only one possibility.

Vera asked calmly, "So, you know about all the things she’s done?"

Winston did not deny it.

Vera instinctively took a step back, "When did you find out?"

"After returning from Corvid."

"So, if I hadn’t come to her today for the truth, would you never have revealed these things? Would I have to be seen as a malicious woman by others forever?" Vera’s voice trembled, "Was I really so naive to think that seeing Cecilia’s true face would resolve all misunderstandings between us?"

Against Cecilia, she had no chance of winning.

Vera was nothing but a scheming woman to him; it didn’t matter if she did one more evil deed or one less.

He didn’t care if Cecilia did anything wrong; she was his bright moon, and the way she’s become is all for him. Perhaps there’s guilt in his heart towards Cecilia.

"Cecilia’s already having a hard time at The Valentine Family. I don’t intend to publicize this matter; sending her abroad is the best punishment."

Cecilia did so much; going abroad counts as punishment?

"What about me?" Vera looked at him with hatred, "Aren’t I also struggling at The Valentine Family? Winston Valentine, does everything I suffered just count for nothing? I used to think it was just a misunderstanding, turns out you simply dislike me!"

Vera turned to leave, but Winston blocked her way, "I’ll send her away, and I won’t let you be burdened with these accusations."

"Do you also know she was behind those news articles?" Vera looked at him coldly, "Is that why you traveled all the way to Corvid to please me, was saving me... also out of guilt?"

"I saved you because you’re my wife."

Just like giving her expensive clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry—protecting her was simply fulfilling a husband’s duty?

"I’m just a woman not even worthy enough to bear your children," Vera regained her composure, her voice returning to its cold tone, "How am I deserving of being your wife?"

Vera pushed him away, Winston grasped her hand, looking at her icy demeanor, he explained, "I just simply don’t like children."

"Crash!" A noise suddenly came from the ward.

"Winston..." Cecilia’s weak voice echoed, Winston glanced towards the ward.

Seeing his attention diverted, Vera shook off his hand and left resolutely.

He didn’t like children, but what right did he have to deprive her of the chance to be a mother?

Vera touched her belly; she had to keep this child!

After leaving the hospital, Vera first went to Hillside Villa, where Cleo Sutton’s health had improved significantly under Rae Rhodes’ care.

When Vera arrived, Rae was pushing Cleo Sutton in the backyard, letting her bask in the sun.

Rae greeted her and handed over a small crafted item like it was a treasure, "Sister, Aunt Sutton made this little grass-knitted bunny, isn’t it cute?"

Vera took it and toyed with it, "It’s cute."

"Aunt Sutton can weave many little animals, like puppies, turtles, grasshoppers, and even little foxes." Rae smiled sweetly, "Which animals do you like? Aunt Sutton can make them for you."

Cleo Sutton watched Rae with tender eyes.

Vera completed routine treatment for Cleo Sutton, revised her prescription and diet plan.

After the treatment, Cleo Sutton suddenly spoke, "Dr. Yves, my health is not convenient, could you please take Rhea shopping for some clothes and shoes?"

"Aunt Sutton, I brought clothes and shoes..."

Cleo Sutton held her hand, "You’ve been so dedicated in taking care of me; I want to give you a gift."

Facing Cleo Sutton’s pleading gaze, Vera couldn’t refuse.

She drove Rae to her usual shopping mall.

Cleo Sutton had given her a bank card, an ordinary one.

Rae was stunned by the luxurious items in the mall once they entered.

Vera led her into a frequent clothing shop, where the attendant warmly welcomed them.

Rae looked at a price tag, counting the zeros carefully; a single dress cost over a hundred thousand!

Vera gently put her arm around Rae’s shoulder, "See if you like anything and try it on."

After hesitating for a moment, Rae nodded and eventually picked a dress and went into the fitting room.

Vera sat on a chair nearby, and the attendant served her coffee.

A couple happened to walk into the store.

Vera looked up and saw Miles Monroe and The Valentine’s Family’s seventh Miss, Stella Valentine.

Miles Monroe saw Vera, smiled, but before greeting her, Stella already walked up to her proudly like a peacock, "Vera, do you do nothing every day but spend my third brother’s money?"
