Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 210: Comforting the Big Kid
Vera Yves was so frightened that she dodged to the side.
"Dr. Yves, please let my daughter be on your show!" A man nearing sixty knelt at Vera Yves’ feet, "Once she’s on the show, she’ll be saved, I’m begging you!"
Vera Yves realized the situation and politely said, "Let’s sit down and talk things over, please stand up first."
Nathan Norton stepped forward to help the man up from the ground.
The man’s face was filled with tears, and he pulled out some crumpled papers from his pocket, handing them to Vera Yves, "These are my daughter’s diagnosis report and some examination records."
Nathan Norton accepted the papers and handed them to Vera Yves.
Vera Yves opened the clinic door, let Nathan Norton help the old man inside, then went outside to see off the others. She returned to the clinic with Linda Young.
Vera Yves sat down on a chair and carefully looked at the papers the man had given her.
His daughter is twenty-seven years old, diagnosed over a year ago with late-stage lung adenocarcinoma. She didn’t match any targeted drugs, underwent eight chemotherapy sessions, and a month ago, it was found to have relapsed.
"We’ve seen many doctors and taken a lot of Chinese medicine, but it still relapsed! I saw your show, where there are all experts, so I hope you can help my daughter get on the show!"
"The patients on the show are recruited by the show’s team," Vera Yves glanced at the papers in her hand again, "and the show doesn’t recruit cancer patients."
The man’s face instantly lost its color. Suddenly, he looked at Vera Yves with anticipation, "Dr. Yves, you are so skilled, you can surely save my daughter, right? Please, I beg you to treat my daughter!"
As he spoke, the man was about to kneel to Vera Yves again, and she hurriedly stepped forward to support him.
"I see you’ve already found Chester Abbott to treat you, he specializes in lung cancer, why not continue with him?"
"My daughter previously had to spend over two thousand to get an appointment with him; he prescribed medicine, but it costs nearly ten thousand a month, for a prescription lasting two months."
The old man sighed, "To follow up with him, we can only contact his assistant via phone, which means more prescriptions without even seeing him... After three months, my daughter’s illness still relapsed!"
Vera Yves was a little puzzled; initially, there should be a trial of the medication, how could there be a prescription for two months? 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"We’ve intermittently seen several doctors, none of the medicines have worked, she also resists undergoing chemotherapy again, I’m really at a loss."
"I am not practicing medicine now, so I can’t help you."
The old man looked at her, puzzled, "Why are you not practicing medicine? You studied all this to heal and save, didn’t you?"
She initially studied medicine under her grandfather’s influence, witnessing him heal and save lives, thinking he was like a superhero.
She once believed she would surely inherit the clinic from her grandfather and follow his path for life.
But everything stopped abruptly after her grandfather was falsely accused and died in depression.
Her grandfather always regarded healing and saving as his duty, but everyone thought it was rightfully so, even when he waived fees to consider patients’ financial pressures, he was still falsely accused of having ulterior motives.
Even now, as the truth has been revealed, how many people still remember her grandfather?
"I’m sorry, I really am not practicing medicine now." Vera Yves took a paper and pen, writing down the names of several lung cancer specialists, "To my knowledge, they’re still consulting, you can go see them."
For such a terminal patient, with cancer cells already spread, it’s basically incurable, only holistic care can extend life.
Grandfather practiced medicine for decades, yet the number of cancer patients he cured was still countable on one hand.
Even as powerful as Tristan Valentine, with the top medical team, could only delay Cleo Sutton’s death.
The old man looked at that note, his face pale and expressionless, and finally left in disappointment.
When Vera Yves returned to the villa, Theo Hughes was still waiting for her on the sofa, and upon seeing her, he happily hugged her, "Auntie, you finally came back."
Vera Yves smiled and patted his head, "Is it so late and you still haven’t slept, just to wait for Auntie?"
The little fellow nodded eagerly, "Several uncles and aunties came today to draw my blood, it hurt a lot, can you blow on it to make it better?"
Vera Yves pulled over his little arm, and sure enough, there was a bruise, she bent down and blew on it for him.
Thinking about how Theo Hughes had to undergo treatment at such a young age, not knowing what’s happening, Vera Yves tenderly hugged him.
Winston Valentine, seeing the two hugging, didn’t look too pleased, walked over, and pulled Theo Hughes from Vera Yves’ arms, "Didn’t you say you were sleepy, go to bed now."
Chelsea Valentine wasn’t in the villa.
Theo Hughes grabbed Vera Yves’ hand, "Auntie, can you tell me a bedtime story?"
Winston Valentine directly hoisted the little guy up with one hand, "Third Uncle will tell you a story."
Theo Hughes pouted, about to cry, and Vera Yves quickly followed, holding his hand.
Theo Hughes struggled in Winston Valentine’s arms, "I want Auntie! I just want Auntie!"
In the bedroom, Winston Valentine directly tossed the little guy onto the bed, tucked him in, and the little guy looked at him pitifully under pressure from his gaze, "I want Auntie to sleep with me, I can’t sleep alone."
Winston Valentine wanted to kick him off the bed, telling him to stop dreaming.
"When will Big Sister return?"
"She didn’t say."
Seeing Theo Hughes about to cry from grievance again, Vera Yves walked to the bedside, held his hand, "Toby, don’t be afraid, Auntie is with you."
"Auntie, can you sleep next to me like a mommy, I’m scared."
"Toby, can you tell Auntie, what are you afraid of?"
Theo Hughes’ eyes reddened, tears started falling, "Daddy, after drinking too much, would come in and hit Toby, I’m scared."
Vera Yves gently patted his head, lay down on the bed, and hugged the little guy, "Daddy won’t hit Toby anymore."
Theo Hughes, feeling Vera Yves’ scent, felt very secure, he eagerly looked at the expressionless man at the bedside, "Third Uncle, you can start the story now."
Winston Valentine saw his red eyes, sighed silently, picked up a storybook nearby, "Long ago, in Persia, there was a young man named Aladdin..."
The soft light fell on his stern face, softening his features greatly.
Vera Yves watched in a daze.
If that baby wasn’t aborted, and smoothly came into this world, would he have patience, be a good father?
"A man so handsome is yours, aren’t you happy?"
Meeting the man’s smiling gaze, Vera Yves’ cheeks flushed slightly, in her embrace, Theo Hughes was already sound asleep, Vera Yves lowered her voice, "Narcissism is also an illness."
Winston Valentine put the storybook aside, walked around to her side, and extended his hand, "Then please, Dr. Yves, treat me."
As Vera Yves wanted to turn her back, he picked her up from the bed, and instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his neck, forced to cling to him like a koala.
Winston Valentine supported her, walked out of the room, and in a low voice at her ear, "After pacifying the little one, it’s time to pacify the big one."
"What if Toby wakes up?"
"Staying up this late, I’d be surprised if he woke up."
After pacifying the big one, it was already after 2 a.m., Vera Yves took a shower, feeling hungry, went downstairs to cook noodles.
Chelsea Valentine was sitting in the living room on the first floor, her cheeks flushed, emanating a strong alcoholic smell.
