Chapter 270: I Cannot Trust You-I

Queen Morgana who had sat on her plush chair, laughing to the jokes that the guests had made while sipping into her goblet was having the time of her life. How could she not be delighted today? Her source of headache and anger, Cassius and Arabella was going to meet their end and the heir would finally fall into her hands! Her baby boy inside her stomach would finally be born and she would finally see Versailles as her own kingdom. Not her husband’s. Not from a man. But HERS.

Just then she heard a soft hiss accompanied by an unmistakable crisp voice of a crying cat, "Meow."

"A cat?" Queen Morgan frowned and looked down under the table in front of her as the feast began while they waited for the hunters to come back with the amount of humans they have killed.

The ministers who were sitting there looked at her confused, "Yes Your Majesty?"

"There’s a cat," she continued, "There’s a cat somewhere here, get rid of it. Now!"

"Are you afraid of a single cat your majesty?" Someone chuckled as a joke, thinking that the queen would laugh but instead received a sharp glare from Queen Morgana.

A familiar minister with a small grin watched as Queen Morgana demanded for everyone to drag the cat out of its hiding place and hummed, "I recall someone telling me that Queen Morgana despises cat because she believe it was a bad luck. Apparently she once killed a cat and now believe she is cursed by it."

"Oh dear, then how will she even survive after attempting to kill a girl she claims as a monster?" The voice that had appeared came from the glasses man, Minister Juan. He sat down with ease and swept his eyes over the situation with a frown. "This is foolish. A human hunt when everything was going South?"

"Then why are you here?" Paolo, leaned over to his shoulders, grinning, "Wasn’t it because you wanted to participate?"

"Do you think I was dressed for hunting?" Juan rolled his eyes and pushed his face away, "I’m here to watch how disaster will unfold. Fortunately, I don’t see so many vampires, seems like they aren’t as stupid as the Queen to not be aware of the consequence of looking down on human they govern."

"If human rebel, Juan, do you think they would win?" Paolo sang while playfully laughing when he saw a white cat who had gone and scratch Queen Morgana’s feet, leaving the bright red mark.

The cat, which had a bright green pair of eyes then turned to Paolo making him to froze for a second. He stared at the cat who looked back at him passively and when he saw the bright green eyes again, only then did it struck to Paolo that the cat was not any ordinary cat.

Lala the cat, then turned away to the forest, its tail swaying as if proud that it had turned Queen Morgana’s day into a horrible one by scratching her body.

Juan snapped his finger in front of Paolo and continued, "I know that everyone is eager to say that vampires are stronger and we would win."

"Are we not going to win?" Paolo inquired and Juan shook his head.

"Winning only comes when the war doesn’t take place. Don’t you know that even participating in a war will cause us a great loss? Winning or losing doesn’t matter when you will still lose a great deal of things and suffer from it."

Paolo stared at Juan’s face like a stiff statue then he smiled, "You know? I really do like being friends with you."

"Stop it," Juan rolled his eyes without turning at him so he didn’t notice how Paolo’s eyes glimmered with sincerity.

"I bet that you’re one of a kind in a vampire’s world or in the human’s world. That line of thinking isn’t wrong," he sang, "By the way where do you think the Crown Prince is?"

"Who knows- where are you going?" Juan turned to Paolo who had stood up.

"Hm, it’s getting boring," Paolo then stared at the queen from afar, "And after hearing your wise words, I think this game needs to be put to a stop. Want to come with me and help a crown prince in distress?" He then smirked.

Just then they heard a sharp scream coming from Queen Morgana which turned all heads. They wondered if the Queen had another breakdown or anger that she had released to a poor maid or another target.

Even Juan was about to walk away while pushing the edges of his glasses when Paolo held his hand to stop him. The two turned toward Queen Morgana, finding her slumped on the floor, grasping tight to the red chair while breathing heavily, her face flushed red while her knuckles turned white as she gripped tighter to the red chair to endure the great pain that hit her like a wave.

Under her feet was the large amount of water which became a tolling bell that moved every single person there to rush to her side.

But what Paolo had taken a notice wasn’t only the Queen who was crying for help while enduring the pain of laboring when her baby wasn’t supposed to come so early. Rather, Paolo noticed the King who sat beside her, sipping to the red liquid yet never once turned toward his wife who had yelled and cried her heart out in pain.

It was odd... THAT was odd.

It wasn’t that the King had lost all his love for Queen Morgana, after all, he even staged this human hunt while knowing well how the humans would feel about this, how this could lead into a war between humans and vampire, how humans wouldn’t just sit back and fight the traditional way when there is a potion that had turned vampires into a monstrous being.

But the way the King was in a daze, he didn’t seem ill. He just seemed out of it, like he was in a spell.

That made Paolo to turn at Queen Morgana, eyes narrowed as now he was sure that the Queen was far too flustered that she had done something to the King and her eagerness was about to kill her soon. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
