To Byul (Omegaverse)-Chapter 166: The reason Kang-woo left
Kang-woo had been inflicted with a rare disease that his parents discovered during his second year in high school. Of course, they tried their best to find out what it was and a cure for it when they discovered it was pancreatic cancer, a very rare and critical cancer that is very hard to deal with, affecting organs like the spleen and stomach and causing eating to be quite difficult.
Even in this age and time when most cures had been created and the world was free of the problem of most cancers, there were still other cancer diseases that were yet to find a solution.
And those diseases bring about death if not treated and monitored carefully.
So, they planned to treat it as soon as possible, and that was during the time they discovered what it was: Kang-woo’s third year of high school.
The probability that he would be cured was very slim, and surgery was just a primary solution. He needed to be monitored extensively and intensively with follow-up treatments.
But even with that, there was no guarantee that he would be cured so Kang-woo decided to keep this news away from the one person that he feared would be crushed to the bone.
This was why they kept the reason for Kang-woo’s departure so well from Chin-hwa
Before it was time to leave, Kang-woo acted cold so that Chin-Hwa would not miss him that much because he would come to hate him for changing overnight. So, even if he died overseas, the news would never reach his ear because he would no longer be a part of his life.
Kang-woo prepared himself for the worse but he was very regretful that he could not have Chin-hwa by his side during such a difficult time. He heard how Chin-hwa was taking his departure and his heart hurt even more, but even then, he couldn’t let him know.
Knowing Kang-woo left him would be better than knowing Kang-woo was dying. So, he could suffer a little for now and forget about him because he had been such an inconsiderate jerk who threw away their friendship instead of suffering for the rest of his life knowing he was dead.
In any case, during those three to four years, he took online classes abroad so he could cope and transfer to the same year as Chin-hwa when it was finally taken to go back.
The reason he took so long was because they were monitoring his condition. The doctors were not a hundred percent sure the surgeries were a success or if it would reoccur, so they used three years to watch him.
They were still watching him when he decided he needed to go back to the country and start the new semester with Chin-Hwa.
Since there had been no problems for the past three years, they decided to let it be and would keep watching him from their side.
The reason no one told Chin-hwa why Kang-woo had to leave, and he couldn’t go with him even after he had returned was that they were still watching his condition.
If that deadly cancer came back, then there was no way to explain to Hwa that Kang-woo was going to die.
They were being cautious. Very cautious.
And now, they had confirmed that he was finally free.
Lee Ga-ram had been so relieved when he heard it and almost cried. He thought he would lose his child, but he was thankful that he never gave up, believing that everything would be fine.
"Hah, what a lucky brat." Woo-bin mumbled. "You get another shot at life,"
"Congrats on staying alive." Baek-Hyun said sincerely, and Kang-woo nodded. He felt lucky indeed.
"Congratulations, Ga-ram." Hae-won said, holding his hands. "It’s such good news."
"Yes, it is." Ga-ram said, nodding in relief. "Byul," he called. "You can go tell Hwa the truth now. You don’t need to hold back."
Kang-woo nodded. He was glad that he could keep living and wouldn’t have to worry about getting sick while he was with Hwa.
Everything was going well. His life was falling into place.
But he had a feeling Hae-won already knew. He didn’t know if it was thanks to his hint but after then, Hae-won’s attitude towards him changed completely.
"Okay, you go up." Hae-won said to Kang-woo. "I have something to discuss with your parents and this... Doesn’t concern you." He waved him off and Kang-woo nodded.
He got up and headed for his room. He shut the door and rested his back on the door, sighing as his heart felt lighter after the news.
Downstairs, Hae-won sat with his legs crossed and a serious expression plastered on his face.
They couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking so intently about and what he had to talk about that he drove Kang-woo away.
"Should I get some snacks?" Ga-ram asked but Hae-won raised his hand, stopping him from getting up. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"No, leave it." He said and then sighed, interlocking his fingers as he contemplated. "I thought a lot about this and I think... We need to start preparing."
"Preparing for what?" Baek-Hyun asked.
"Hm," Hae-won’s eyebrows furrowed in uncertainty as he said, "No matter how many precautions we take and how much you guys prepare Kang-woo for this ’mating’ period, I have a feeling we’ll end up being grandparents." He said and everyone went silent.
They all looked at him, stunned. What did he just say?
Hae-won nodded and said,
"As shocking as it is, it’s one of the most expected outcomes for this so... Let’s prepare to get them married."
(Okay, so that’s what it’s come to. That’s why I said in one of the Author’s thoughts that, ’Don’t get too surprised if Chin-hwa and Kang-woo suddenly get married in a few months, haha. They’ll definitely be the first to give their parents a grandchild but I know He-Nari is working hard too. Haha, his marriage will probably follow after Chin-hwa’s but I may not write about that. This is Hwa and Byul’s story after all.)
