Chapter 218: Chapter 218: You Still Have a Chance

The car fell silent; everyone was at a loss for words. Perhaps they needed time to catch their breath after just escaping danger, or maybe they were still haunted by the tragedy at the Rumi Hotel.

Chen Ke and Sam didn’t know what had happened in Rumi that led to the tragedy, but at least now they could be sure of one thing: it wasn’t as simple as Ying Baiyi losing his temper.

Now, to concern themselves with how the monster entered the hotel was pointless. Given the current situation, the most important thing was to get the survivors out of this world.

“Looks like you couldn’t find the subway,” Chen Ke broke the stalemate, looking at Ying Baiyi.

Everyone was somewhat puzzled by Chen Ke’s sudden remark but remained silent and listened.

Diana had expected Chen Ke to explode in anger, but from his tone, it seemed he wasn’t even upset.

“Yes…” Ying Baiyi replied.

The atmosphere in the car felt a bit awkward; Diana coughed.

“Do you know what happened in the hotel?” Chen Ke asked.

Diana and Sam both looked towards Ying Baiyi.

Ying Baiyi rested his elbows on his knees, fingers interlocked, mulling over for a moment before slowly speaking, “It was too chaotic… I only had time to take a small number of people.”

“You abandoned them!” Sam burst out suddenly.

“I did not,” Ying Baiyi responded calmly.

“You abandoned Diana too! You’re responsible for everyone who died in that hotel,” Sam said coldly.

“The person responsible for them is not me, it’s that window that wasn’t closed,” Ying Baiyi retorted.

“Why didn’t anyone close it?” Chen Ke suddenly asked.

Ying Baiyi looked at Diana and said, “I would have closed it, but at that moment, I had a revolver pointed at my head.”

Diana lowered her head, looking out of the window.

“You’re just making excuses…” Sam was struggling to contain his anger; Ying Baiyi’s previous words seemed to be shifting the blame onto Diana.

“That’s just how it is, Sam. I did my best,” Ying Baiyi replied with a cold laugh.

“I don’t think so! To me, you’re just a coward,” Sam scoffed.

“Oh… then do you want to try and see who the real coward is?” Ying Baiyi slowly stood up.

“Everyone will pay the price for their actions…” Chen Ke intervened at this point.

He looked at Ying Baiyi and then at Sam.

“Diana has already paid the price for her actions. That’s clear,” Chen Ke also stood up and walked between Sam and Ying Baiyi.

Ying Baiyi looked at Chen Ke, not sure what he was getting at.

“And you, Ying Baiyi, you have another chance to close the window,” Chen Ke said, locking eyes with Ying Baiyi.

Ying Baiyi held Chen Ke’s gaze for two seconds, feeling an intense and irresistible emotion, before looking away to the other survivors who were all looking at him.

Chen Ke approached Ying Baiyi, grabbed his arm, and led him to the side, whispering, “This world is beyond saving, but these people still have a chance. Look at the situation outside, Mr. Ying Baiyi. We both know it’s impossible to find the singularity entangled in time, but that doesn’t mean we have no chance at all,” Chen Ke looked out of the window, speaking as if to himself, yet also to Ying Baiyi.

Ying Baiyi wrestled with himself for a moment. He didn’t know where Chen Ke had heard about a time entanglement singularity, so he asked, “What opportunity are you talking about?”

Chen Ke glanced at the others, turned his head, and said, “I have the Blasphemous Dagger…”

Ying Baiyi was startled. As an Administration Bureau special agent, he certainly knew the purpose of this dagger. However, what surprised him even more was why Chen Ke had this dagger. Who was he?

“So you should be very clear… how this dagger is supposed to be used…” Ying Baiyi looked at Chen Ke, guessing his intentions. Could it be that he planned to sacrifice the three survivors to open the door…?

“Of course, I’m clear, and there’s another use for this dagger, which I’m sure you don’t know about,” Chen Ke whispered.

Of course, he had no intention of sacrificing anyone. The most reliable way to leave this world alive now was Chen Ke’s own ability to open doors.

But this ability required a soul as fuel, which naturally Chen Ke had no intention of exposing his talent for, so he could only use the Blasphemous Dagger as a ruse.

His plan was straightforward: find a sufficiently powerful monster in this world, kill it to obtain its soul, and then open a door to send everyone back.

Chen Ke had two previous experiences with opening doors. The first was involuntary; he was dragged into the Fan Hede Kingdom by a contract demon. The second time was voluntarily; with the thought “Go back!” in his mind, he returned to the motel where his belongings were in the midst of a fall.

This time was the same. As long as he had a soul, he would be able to crush it and return to the normal world, or enter the Fan Hede Kingdom.

As for sufficiently powerful monsters, the most reliable known ones might be the Daughter of Sorrow.

It was the progenitor of all the divisible bird-people, the original entity. Although Chen Ke didn’t know if such division had a concept of a “queen,” he was certain that killing ordinary bird-people wouldn’t yield a soul.

The Daughter of Sorrow might not have one either, but ultimately the chances were slightly higher than with those bird-people. Moreover, Chen Ke didn’t know how powerful it really was, which is why he had roped in Ying Baiyi.

“How do you know so much… who the hell are you?” Ying Baiyi asked in a low voice.

“It’s none of your business, Ying Baiyi. Cooperate with me, and you can leave, so why not set aside your Administration Bureau level 9 special agent’s pride and listen carefully to my plan?” Chen Ke whispered.

Ying Baiyi’s gaze toward Chen Ke changed. Without a moment’s hesitation, he nodded and asked, “What do we do?”

“The Blasphemous Dagger can sacrifice monsters, which I’m sure you don’t know,” Chen Ke said.

“What!? That’s nonsense… it’s impossible; both the Research Institute and the Administration Bureau have tried, and it simply can’t be done,” Ying Baiyi said in amazement, quietly.

“That’s because you haven’t mastered the correct method. Moreover, the monster can’t be too weak; it has to be strong enough,” Chen Ke pretended to be profound.

“I get your point… no matter where you got this information from, but now, you’re indeed going to look for that… Daughter of Sorrow…” Ying Baiyi looked at Chen Ke.

“Exactly, I ran into Jiu Lin at the hospital,” Chen Ke nodded.

“Jiu Lin… You got away from her, that’s somewhat impressive. So that means you should know what exactly happened here…” Ying Baiyi said.

“Yes, the Research Institute’s studies, your daring escape adventures, the apocalypse, and what happens when you look at something that resembles chopsticks, among other things. By the way, you’re not so well regarded in her books,” Chen Ke said.

“The feeling is mutual… but to get back to the point, the door opened by the Blasphemous Dagger leads to the Great Void… That’s hardly a safe place…” Ying Baiyi said.

“Diana is a CPA agent; her phone can contact our world’s Administration Bureau from the Great Void… You know what I mean,” Chen Ke hinted.

Ying Baiyi realized suddenly that as long as they could contact the Administration Bureau, they would have a way to locate Diana.

Although opening a door to the Great Void was not a simple task, considering that time was forbidden in the Great Void… no matter how long it took, there would always be a way to leave.

“You get it, even though entering the Great Void doesn’t guarantee a 100% chance of returning to our world, it’s still a step closer, right? It’s better than staying here,” Chen Ke said.

“It sounds… pretty reliable,” Ying Baiyi said.

“That’s right, Mr. Ying Baiyi, you still have a chance to close the window, you still do,” Chen Ke said with a smile.
