This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!-Chapter 216 - : Bus
Chapter 216: Chapter 216: Bus
Gunshots echoed from a great distance, but because the city was so quiet, they could be heard even here.
Chen Ke and Sam approached the door, and in the sky, a large flock of bird people flew towards the source of the gunfire.
“I bet that’s Ying Baiyi,” Chen Ke said.
Sam agreed with the guess. After learning what had really happened to the world, he no longer held any hope of encountering new survivors.
Chen Ke turned back to look at the people inside the house, contemplating whether to go alone or take them along.
Diana, seeing Chen Ke’s hesitation, knew that Ying Baiyi’s location was certainly besieged by monsters, and the survivors with him were likely to have suffered brutal deaths or injuries.
“Sam, you stay here and protect them. I’ll go find Ying Baiyi, and if all goes well, I should be able to bring him back before long,” Chen Ke said.
“No, no, no… I suggest we all go together. There’s strength in numbers, and besides, if Ying Baiyi does attack you, we’ll stand a better chance if we face him together,” Sam said.
“I don’t think he’ll attack me. The situation over there is certainly going to be very dangerous. If we all go, it’s going to be a near certain death,” Chen Ke said.
“We want to go with you. We can be of help,” said the survivors from inside the café, as they stepped out.
Chen Ke looked at them.
“Rest assured, I won’t abandon you, but it’s definitely dangerous there, and if…” Chen Ke said.
“It’s dangerous over there, which is why we have to go together, Chen Ke. We won’t let you face those things alone,” Diana said. She leaned on the table to stand up, grabbing her M14 that was against the wall.
“Wow, sister can stand up!” the two children said as they ran over to support Diana’s arm.
“They’re right; we can’t let you go playing the hero alone,” Sam said, patting Chen Ke on the shoulder.
Chen Ke said nothing, smiled slightly, and turned to push open the door of the café.
A group of nine, guided by the bird people soaring in the sky, advanced through the shadows. They weaved past cars on the main streets and through the shops on the sidewalks. As they drew closer, the bird people became more numerous, and the gunshots louder.
Judging by the distance of the gunshots, if it was really Ying Baiyi, he must have been constantly on the move, and as they got close enough, human screams of agony mixed in with the sound of gunfire.
Those were the painful wails of living people.
“What’s that?” the girl with black-framed glasses exclaimed, covering her mouth and tugging at Sam’s sleeve.
Sam looked towards a Honda on the side of the street, where a body lay on the hood, its flesh shredded, a grisly sight to behold.
“Survivor, must’ve come out of the subway. Looks like Ying Baiyi didn’t manage to protect the people he was trying to get out,” Chen Ke said.
“There are more,” Diana pointed ahead.
Strewn across the main street, many bodies lay scattered here and there—some beside car doors, others just on the street, and some even decapitated, their deaths horrific.
Chen Ke also spotted a familiar cylindrical backpack; it was what he, Sam, and Ying Baiyi used to carry ammunition at the County Police station.
Without the cover of buildings, on the main street Ying Baiyi’s team resembled a worm, mercilessly pecked at by the birds overhead.
Ying Baiyi had the other survivors help carry guns and supplies, but they hadn’t been so lucky and died along the way.
Chen Ke really wanted to rush out and grab that ammunition pack, but bird people occasionally flew by in the sky, so they suppressed their impulses and continued to move through the interiors of shops and the shadows, not daring to walk on the streets bathed in moonlight.
As the sound of gunfire grew louder, Chen Ke finally saw a group of people fighting bird people two to three hundred meters away.
A familiar thunderbolt shot towards the sky, piercing through several bird people. Ying Baiyi, carrying a black bag, led the remaining four people, relentlessly sprinting forward.
There were more than a hundred bird people in the sky, too many for Ying Baiyi to kill alone.
“Everyone’s dead… They’re all dead…” Sam said.
Chen Ke didn’t know how many people Ying Baiyi had taken with him originally, but judging from the bodies on the streets, it must have been a large number. In other words, he had caused at least a dozen survivors to die.
But no matter what, they needed to help him overcome this predicament now. Chen Ke looked around and spotted a bus.
Ying Baiyi loaded his last magazine. He only had seven bullets left, and there was no time to preload more. One after another, the survivors at his side fell, and he had grown numb.
Everything had started off smoothly, but these people just couldn’t keep their cool as Ying Baiyi had hoped.
As Ying Baiyi advanced with his team, there was a single bird person on the street, posing no threat to the team and preening its feathers. They could have simply detoured and sneaked past, but someone in the team was stupid enough to shoot at it!
Afterward, things spiraled out of control, and that single bird person began to split.
Despite Ying Baiyi’s repeated insistence not to be afraid, the fools were still stricken with fear.
“I originally wanted to save you, but if this is your fate, don’t blame me,” Ying Baiyi muttered to himself, turning back to shoot at the bird person about to pounce.
The Punishment bullet hit it squarely in the face, causing the bird person to halt suddenly mid-air, then perform a 360° backflip before plummeting to the ground.
His body’s spiritual element was nearly depleted, and the thunder gun consumed too much. The tingling sensation from his spine told him that he might not be able to cast the thunder gun anymore.

Unless he could rest for a few hours, the remaining spiritual element would barely allow him to summon a Holy Relic for a few minutes of combat. Saving them had drained too much of his strength, and now he felt weary.
“What should we do, Ying Baiyi? There are even more of them coming!” a survivor behind him exclaimed in panic.
“Try your best not to get killed,” Ying Baiyi replied coldly, continuing to run forward.
“Ahhh!!! Save me! Ying Baiyi!! Throw Lightning, ah!!!” The last survivor was tackled to the ground by five diving bird people, their claws tearing at him as he screamed in pain.
The remaining three survivors immediately turned and shot at the bird people.
“Hold on! Ying Baiyi will soon…” The survivor was shooting while looking back, but his words choked off.
Because Ying Baiyi wasn’t helping them, he didn’t even turn his head, just kept running.
The three survivors shook their heads, speechless, and turned to follow Ying Baiyi, leaving cries and curses behind them.
Ying Baiyi felt his physical strength nearing depletion. He was a level 9 agent, but not a superman, especially with that heavy pack of bullets on his back. But he had to run; a large flock of bird people was flying toward him.
Just then, he heard the sound of a bus engine, growing from distant to near, seemingly coming for him.
“What…?” Ying Baiyi wondered.
He saw the intersection ahead suddenly illuminated by a beam of light. A red Carefree City tour bus rammed through two sedans, mounted the sidewalk, and headed straight for him, honking incessantly.
The bird people in the sky were distracted by the bus, giving Ying Baiyi a moment to breathe, and the person in the driver’s seat of the bus was a complete shock to him.
