Alix and Caishen resurfaced the following day, returning to the open city of Beijing. Some of her brothers chose to stay back in the hidden city for a day or two while others left with them. Her parents and grandparents did not stay behind, they were concerned about the pregnancy so they wanted to be available at anytime if Alix needed any help with anything.

The first thing the couple did was visit the Zhang ancestral home because the elders were clamouring to take a look at Alix now now that she was pregnant.

It was ridiculous! They had seen her not long ago, it was not as if her belly had become balloon sized within days. She was really reluctant to go to the Zhang mansion, especially because all those relatives were still around.

Caishen had to coax her in order to get her out of the car when they arrived.

As soon as they entered the house, the drama started not even five seconds in. The drama starter was none other than Caishen’s aunt, Zhang Lei.

The first thing she did was look at Alix with loathing and then she turned her nose up and made a ’hmph’ sound. Alix did not respond verbally but she glanced at her husband, expressing her displeasure through her eyes.

Zhang Lei was pushed aside by grandma Zhang who took Alix’s hand and smiled at her gently. She was radiating with love for Alix in a way like never before.

"Sweetie, you have finally come over to see us. Do you know how long this old woman has been waiting for you?"

Alix and grandma Zhang had always got along just fine but there was no over pampering or verbal expressions of affection between them like it was between her and grandma Tai. If she could describe their relationship, she would use the word cordial.

The good news in Alix’s stomach had apparently changed that and now the old woman was more than perfunctorily cordial.

"Why are you standing here Lei? Hurry up and bring some warm tea for Alix." the old woman sternly ordered her daughter.

The corners of Alix’s lips went up and she gave a side eye to the very sour looking Zhang Lei that had come over to wield her authority as an adult in the family, not expecting to be turned into Alix’s errand girl.

"Take your coat off and give it someone." the old woman assisted Alix out of the beige coat and she thrust it into Zhang Lei’s hands. "What are you still standing here for? Hurry up and bring some tea over, do not make the maids do it, they may not make it right. Everything Alix eats and drinks must be carefully handled from now on."

Alix guffawed a little as the old woman led her away. She tried to be mature but the child in her arose to the surface so she turned around and stuck her tongue out at Zhang Lei.

"Aunt," Caishen gave her a perfunctory nod of the nod and followed them.

He chuckled as he walked, his aunt probably never imagined that one pregnancy was all it would take for her to be pushed down the hierarchy.

Grandma Zhang even went so far as to assist Alix in sitting down so carefully as if she was already in the eight or ninth month of her pregnancy.

"Sweetie," she took Alix’s hand and patted it. "You have done well. This old woman was really worried because months have passed since you two got married and your stomach was not moving at all. Who knew that you had such a big surprise waiting for us, five great grandchildren at once." She sniveled.

It was not an accomplishment worth praising, it was the fruiting rabbits foot which had done this.

"Err..." she was speechless so she turned her head to look at Caishen and the Zhang elders.

The living room had quite a few guests, members of the Zhang family. It looked like they had been having a meeting before the couple arrived.

Inside, Alix felt a little bit embarrassed to be discussing the pregnancy in front of all these sixteen people.

Grandma Zhang slipped a green jade bracelet off her hand and put it on Alix’s right hand.

"Accept this for now, grandma will prepare more gifts as you progress. Don’t worry, i have already prepared some right now but i will give you more when the children arrive."

"Thank you, grandma." She responded eagerly.

They would not give her cheap things, at least she had picked up some loot from this visit.

Grandpa Zhang’s assistant brought a sealed box and gave it to her. This was followed up by more gifts being given by the other elders and when they were finished, there was no empty space around her.

Mo Sen and some of the maids started moving the gifts to the cars immediately.

Just when she thought it was over, grandpa Zhang handed over an envelope with shares. They were not for the Zhang group though, not that Alix expected it in the first place.

"Thank you grandpa."

"We will multiply these gifts when the children arrive like your grandmother has said. You have really done a great favor for our Zhang family. Our Caishen must have saved a whole universe to marry you in this life time." he said.

Alix covered her mouth and laughed.

"Not just one universe, i saved multiverses. Grandfather, who else has delivered five children at once to the family." Caishen joked.

"Caishen, you are a hero." The second elder laughed deeply.

"Son, daughter-in-law, congratulations. I am always available when you need a babysitter." Zhang Xian was not to be forgotten.

"We should make a trip to the temple and make some donations to accumulate some merit for our grand daughter-in-law and the babies." The third elder suggested.

"That’s true, five babies are not a walk in the park after all, it will be hard on our sweetie." Grandma Zhang patted Alix’s hands some more.

She picked up a soft flower shaped cookie and fed it to Alix.

Grandpa Zhang put down an empty cup that previously held herbal mint tea and looked at Alix with curiosity. "What have your parents said about the pregnancy? Your grandfather is bragging it to whoever has ears."

"They are so excited that they have picked out the names of the babies already." Alix shared.

"No, no way, that won’t work." Grandma Zhang shook her head. "Your grandfather is looking for a way to steal our great granddaughters."

Everyone laughed, familiar with grandpa Tai’s obsessions and hopes for female descendants. Nobody was taking any Liwu from him, not even the Zhangs.

As they started discussing the possible sexes of the babies, Zhang Lexian left the living room. She joined some of her cousins and aunts that were in the kitchen. Coincidentally, she met Zhang Lei in there bad mouthing Alix.

She decided to use Zhang Lei who was too stupid for her own good to do her dirty work.

"Guess what, the first elder had given her shares in one of the best perfume fragrance companies in the country. Since when do daughters-in-law get shares as gifts when they get pregnant?"
