Chapter 578: Into the dungeon.

She gave herself a thirty second pepper talk reassuring herself that all would be okay. Hadn’t the system told her the babies were well protected? What did she have to fear? What kind of barbarian was afraid? Their very nature was fierce and brainless, they just forged ahead no matter the situation.

"Here i go." she whispered.

Alix clicked enter and she felt herself being pulled into space, it was only but for a second and she found herself outside a colossal fortress. Unlike the ancient stony kind of setting she had been expecting, this one was more on the high tech end.The prison dungeon was an imposing structure inside high walls protected by a barrier that crackled with electricity, or energy. It looked like there was some lightning incorporated in there as well.

She could not tell if they were under water, on a mountain, in the ground, in the woods or anywhere else because the walls were too high, stretching beyond the clouds.

Robotic guards were patrolling the compound, equipped with different weapons.

"What is this?" she turned around slowly, looking at her surroundings in wonder.

Basing on the characters they had been given, this was not what she expected.

She tapped the detection icon to see what kind of security they were dealing with.

[Detected surveillence cameras, anti magic wards, energy field, enchanted gargoyles, enchanted golems, arresting runes, ground sensors, teleportation suppressors, anti gravity fields. spell blockers.]

It was a mixture of magic and technology, two worlds in one.

"What kind of people or monsters are held here?" she muttered to herself.

A prison that used both magic and technology to keep prisoners inside was overkill. Unless, whatever was beyond the walls was worth all this protection. What were they going to accomplish on this world anyway?

Had someone paid money to get a detailed map of the prison dungeon? Were the game developers interested in breaking someone out?

"Boss, boss."

Dark Death interrupted her thoughts and she showed up next to Alix.

"You are finally here, i thought you had given up on gaming or something. That despicable elf has been telling everyone that you were a coward because you showed up on the fifth...."

Dark Death continued talking but Alix could not hear a single word she was saying. Then, they got a warning and Alix groaned.

[All players are strictly forbidden from discussing the affairs of the 5th world. Players Alix and Dark Death have been warned.]

Alix glanced at her partner and she hissed.

"You are really my nemesis. we have not even taken down a single beast and you have earned us a warning. I will glue your mouth shut with staples one of these days."

Dark Death laughed silly and bumped her shoulder into Alix playfully.

"Boss, sorry. I won’t say anything about the..."

Alix moved her hand quickly and pinched both of Dark Death’s lips shut.

"No talking unless it’s about this world and how we can advance. Lord knows we are going to need all the luck we can get."

Talking about luck made her eyes widen. How stupid of her! she exclaimed in her mind. She had forgotten about the luck bringer Majesty. Even though the system was on a break, the cat was not.

"Give me thirty seconds."

She paused her character and returned to the real world. Majesty was sleeping in a bassinet by the window. She grabbed the sleeping cat abruptly like a kidnapper, startling it into opening its eyes and yowling loudly in protest.

"Unhand me you human, don’t think my claws won’t scratch you. My teeth are mightier than yours, if you doubt me we can compare."

The silly cat went on to expose its sharp teeth. Alix just slapped it lightly on the butt and grabbed it’s gaming glasses.

"Don’t you like gaming? I want to play with you."

She smiled slyly, looking like an actual kidnapper with bad intentions. Majesty knew better than to trust that cunning smile of hers bu he was excited to participate. His hibernation days were over, now that he was back to his normal self, he was ready to make up for all the fun he had missed.

Alix returned to the game, this time with the voice of her cat in her head instead of the blue smurf.

"Let’s go." she gestured at Dark Death.

"Aren’t we going to grow our team?" She looked around to see if anyone else was joining their merry band of two. "I chose thief and necromancer. We need a healer or priest at least..."

"No need." Alix cut her off. "We only need to be able to trust each other. Would you trust the paladin and Bichu if they returned to us seeking to ally again?"

Dark Death shook her head. Those two had allied with the enemy, in this game trust on a world where it was not every man for himself was important. Anyway, they had been champions together on their own twice. Who needed the others?

"What classes did you choose?"

"Barbarian and bard."

Dark Death smiled when she heard Alix had chosen to play as a bard again. It was just like back then, she felt more confident now.

Majesty was impatient to see some action. "Will you talk or fight? Is this why you disturbed the sleep of this royal cat?"

Alix sighed, it was going to be a long couple of hours. The two started moving with Dark Death chatting Alix’s ears off as always. Why the biggest chatter box she had ever met chose to be an assassin or thief was a puzzle to her. With her love for talking, how did she endure the silence.

They approached the doors leading inside and were scanned. As players, they were allowed inside with all of their weapons.

Inside the prison was different from outside. It was designed like a dungeon. The lighting was poor and the walls were made of stone, nothing like the shiny luster of the building outside.

There were tunnels, many of them spanning as far as the eye could see. It was slightly cold, and the ground was a bit damp. Alix did not even know which one to take.

"Look at all these winding passages, how are we supposed to know which turn to make? How could they give us five days when this place is like a maze?" Dark Death huffed unhappily.

Alix stepped on something and it crunched. When she looked down, she saw skeletal remains, they were littered along the path, inside and outside the containment cells.

Some cells had prisoners, creatures of different types that looked blood thirsty. If they got the chance to come out of the cells, they were going to kill.

"Hey, hey, can you get me out of here? Just put one drop of your blood on the lock." a voice called out to Alix.

It was silky and smooth, quite enchanting if she could say, but it was also abnormal. The owner of the voice was a more normal, almost human looking creature. It was a man and he was pale, with a face as beautiful as Aang’s waist long hair as black as the night and two sharp fangs.
