The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 302: The old man’s pout.
Just like the last time, the session with professor He ended around the lunch hour and Alix could not get away from her fast enough. They had discussed in detail her feelings about Caishen, the good and the worrisome. Professor He left with a smile, proud of the very small progress Alix had taken in opening up.
She met with Jin Kang in the school cafeteria for lunch. The snow was falling down even harder than usually today, so eating outside was not convenient.
Just like yesterday, she had a bento box. This one was also prepared by Mo Qilu and delivered by grandpa Tai. He didn’t sit with her because elder Ren had something to discuss with him privately which left Alix free to eat with Jin Kang.
Her friend was bubbly, excited and armed with all school gossip and when she exhausted it, she moved on to Alix’s affairs.
"Who is the woman that has come to see you twice? I see her moving around the school sometimes and she claims to be staff but i have no idea who she is. I almost called security on her but Jenny stopped me and said she works for you."
"She is...." Alix paused and frowned. Then, she said sincerely, "A psychologist, i am seeing her."
Surprisingly, it wasn’t difficult to be honest about who the professor was.
Jin Kang put down the chopsticks in her hands and grabbed the sides of Alix’s bento box. Surprise was written all over her face.
"You are seeing a doctor, a shrink, why?"
Alix looked at her friend nonchalantly and shrugged. "In case you need a reminder, i have some issues that need to be worked out. It’s good to purge and speak to someone about all those matters."
The things she could not tell her friends about Caishen, she could tell the professor honestly. After the earlier session, she was feeling a bit unburdened.
"Is she helping?" Jin Kang asked in a serious voice.
This prompted Alix to look up from her open bento box to her friend. It was rare for Jin Kang to be serious in any situation where tears or death were not involved.
"Yes." Alix said. The crumbed beef in the middle of her chopsticks fell and landed on top of the rice.
She didn’t think that Jin Kang could still surprise her in this life but apparently, she could.
Alix stared pointedly at her friend who had gone back to eating and asked her, "How are things going with you and Du Fuzi?"
She was not asking just for the sake of relishing in idle gossip but because she cared for her friend and wanted to make sure she could talk about her entanglement openly, without feeling shame.
"It’s going." Jin Kang responded without looking up.
This prompted Alix to tilt her head from side to side so that she could catch the reaction on her friends face. She didn’t detect anything special in Jin Kang’s voice so she couldn’t judge if she was happy or not. Alix thought that perhaps she ought to ask the question directly, the same way the professor did with her.
"Are you happy?"
Jin Kang raised her head. The look on her face was neutral, neither happy, nor sad.
She opened her mouth and replied honestly, "It’s neither here nor there. I mean, it’s exciting and refreshing to date a man that is honest about his intentions and expectations but it’s a burden having to hold back parts of myself because there is a deadline on the relationship. It feels like i am dating someone that has a doomsday clock on his face and every second that passes by, i get closer to the end. It’s not a very good feeling."
Alix nodded and shook her head. This was to be expected when one dated a man like Du Fuzi. He would be so good to you, so kind and caring. This was bound to be exciting in the beginning but as the relationship progressed, reality was bound to hit you.
You couldn’t tell your parents about him, your friends too because you were meant to break up in the end after all. You couldn’t fall in love with him or expect him to love you. You could not expect any emotional attachments from him of any kind.
"I think..." Alix started to say.
She had to stop because grandpa Tai and all of her brothers came over to their table. Most of the students and teachers had opted to avoid the area so there was enough space for everyone.
Before sitting down, grandpa Tai was already lamenting. "My good granddaughter, how could you betray me like this? I have seen the oil painting of Tai Heng in the art room. Have you decided to love your father more than your grandfather? If you wanted to paint anyone, you should have chosen me."
Lamenting was not enough as the old man went on to pout sadly. His shiny expectant eyes pierced Alix as he waited for her response.
There was something quite endearing in watching the old man pout. He was kind of adorable, like a toddler. His childish act brought smiles on the faces of the people around.
"Grandfather, you are my favorite person in the world. How could i love anyone more than you? Father just happened to be around when inspiration struck." She said. "How about we arrange another grandfather-granddaughter date and i will paint you."
A smile bloomed on his face and the old man happily asked, "Will it be better than your father’s painting?"
Alix nodded. "I promise to make you as handsome as a king."
"Grandfather it’s not a competition." Tai Jiaan said.
Grandpa Tai responded by flicking the back of Jiaan’s head with one of his fingers. "Keep quiet before i begin a group discussion about you missing class."
In turn, Jiaan looked at Alix, dismay written all over his face. "Sister, you promised not to tell."
Grandpa Tai swiftly delivered another finger flick to the back of Jiaan’s head again. "So you have decided to involve your sister in your silliness? Leave her out of it."
Alix meanwhile was shaking her head. "It wasn’t me. I haven’t said a word to grandpa about it."
"His homeroom teacher told me all about it." Grandpa Tai shared.
Tai Jiaan rubbed the back of his head while smiling sheepishly. "I was not feeling fine grandpa, you can ask older sister. She will vouch for me."
He looked at Yuewei as well and roped him in. "Even Yewei knew that i was not feeling fine."
While grandpa Tai stared scornfully at his grandson, Alix realized that she had not introduced Wu Wei and Wu Gang to the elder. Thankfully, Yuewei had brought them over so she made jumped on the opportunity to make the introduction.
"Grandpa, these are my two youngest brothers, twins, Wu Gang and Wu Wei."
Grandpa Tai looked the boys up and down curiously. He easily deduced whose children they were.
"They will be staying with me. I am their permanent guardian." Alix informed him. She looked at them and said, "Boys, this is grandfather."
He had accepted Yuewei easily and she figured he would accept the twins too.
