The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 99: No Old Friend
Lady Gisella was silent. She looked around in a daze as she bit her lips.
"I did find something. Well to be clear, I did find some rumors." Lady Gisella looked at Princess Eleanor who was silent.
She could see the eagerness in Princess Eleanor’s gaze. The Princess was waiting to hear as the corner of her eyes curled up slightly.
"The rumors say that the Cenid Kingdom’s carriage was attacked but the attack was not as vicious as ours. It was more like an attack done to damage things but the Princess’s carriage was not directly attacked. On the other hand, some of the other Princesses were attacked too but they did not say anything on the matter."
Princess Eleanor nodded her head. She could understand why the other Princesses did not say a lot of things. "Were the other Princesses attacked seriously?"
"Well they were under attack but their destination was never the Princesses or so it looks. But they were stopped when the knights took the matter in hands." Lady Gisella observed Princess Eleanor. She could not imagine what was going on in her mind, but she could tell that whatever it was, must have been serious.
Princess Eleanor was in deep thoughts. Her eyes were silent like a still night. There was no movement but her mind was running fast. ’So it must be the people from my Kingdom that wanted to attack me. Or should I say kill me,’ Princess Eleanor thought as she bit her lips subconsciously.
She knew that she had seen similar people in the enemy group but she didn’t know that her guess might be this accurate.
"Why does the Lady think that they attacked but did not harm the Princesses?" Princess Eleanor asked. She wanted to know what Lady Gisella thought about it.
"Well," Lady Gisella’s gaze was blurry as she thought back on the first thing that came into her mind when she heard it. Lady Gisella was under the impression that all the Princesses were attacked just like how they were but the escort from House Beaumont denied it.
"I think because their target was never the Princesses." Lady Gisella said as she sighed. "I think they wanted to make all the Princesses worry for their lives. Maybe it was a sign of warning?"
"But you said most of the Kingdoms were attacked so that means some of them were spared too?" Princess Eleanor said. "But I cannot understand why no one is making a big deal out of it. Even Princess Vida did not say anything."
"Well, they might have their reasons." Lady Gisella said as she took a deep breath in annoyance. "The rumors about the Crown Prince and the Empire run wild and long. To be precise, a rumor says that the Crown Prince does not like people who pretend to be suffering and weak just to grab his attention."
"So that is the reason the others did not say anything." Princess Eleanor murmured. A smile spread on her face as she thought about her situation,, "So that means the Crown Prince might not like me because I made a fuss."
"Well that might be the reason but I think that maybe he still wants to know you better." Lady Gisella said with a smile.
"Know me better, why?" Princess Eleanor raised her eyebrows in irritation. She did not want to get noticed by the Crown Prince. She never intended to be.
"Because you did not act. Well, how do I say this?" Lady Gisella sighed as she decided to address it directly. "Well the Princess was hurt and it was evident. The chief healer is still trying to help the Princess and we can see you are unwell, Princess’s face is pale"
Princess Eleanor’s eyes shivered. Her gaze looked at Lady Gisella as if she knew what she was saying. The small amount of poison made her face look pale as she started getting dark circles.
"And the other Princesses?" Princess Eleanor murmured under her breath.
"Well.... Let’s say they did not have injuries and nor did they have a damaged carriage. All thought knights from their Kingdom might have said that they really were attacked but the knights and escort from the Empire could always oppose. So the Princesses had nothing to back their story up."
Princess Eleanor nodded her head in understanding. "And the Crown Prince people crave for sympathy."
"Right," Lady Gisella nodded her head. "So that means Princess Vida from the Cenid Kingdom was not the only one who got attacked. But I think her knights made a mistake by blaming the other Kingdom so openly."
"And why does the Lady think so?" Princess Eleanor asked as she raised her eyebrows.
"I thought that what her knights did was actually understandable at first. You can only think that other Kingdoms are trying to attack you but when I look at the overall situation, I think that because of the fight, she was brought into the light."
Lady Gisella signed, "It can be a good thing and a bad thing too." Lady Gisella looked at Princess Eleanor as she said, "Are we on good terms, let me give you some advice. Stay away from Princess Vida. She might be calm and collected. A lady with a smile on her face but she is your competition. Even if you do not wish to be the future Crown Princess, you will be a target like any other Princess because the selection is not based on the Crown Prince alone, it is based on the prophecy."
"So you think Princess Vida will try to get the Crown Prince’s attention and show her real intentions?" Princess Eleanor asked. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"You can see it at the dinner banquet. The Crown Prince will announce that you will not be following him. If Princess Vida still talks with you like an old friend that had reunited, maybe her intentions are good but my experience says, she will only smile at you and wish you to get well soon. Maybe she might ask you to be in contact."
Princess Eleanor nodded her head. She understood her situation well.
