Chapter 199: Chapter 199

Prince Arlo opened his eyes only to see a crowd of people gathering around him.

An unknown fear settled in his heart. He looked down, trying to lift his body but found that he could not. His hands were pushing against the ground, but his body just did not move up.

Prince Arlo looked down with dismay. He could sense that something bad had happened to him, but he did not know what it was until a sharp pain shot down his spine.

"Ahhh!!" Prince Arlo cried out loud as his eyes teared up. It was then that he realized his leg was bleeding. He was hurt.

Prince Arlo did not realize the danger closing in on him, but as soon as he looked up, he saw a man holding a sword looking down at him with a smirk on his face. His sword was raised high, its blade shining coldly as the sun hit reflected off it. He was going to strike and Prince Arlo could not even run.

’I hope my next life will be happier.’ Prince Arlo closed his eyes. He already knew that he would not be able to reach his destination, so he accepted his fate until something cold hit his face.

Prince Arlo did not know what it was, but it looked like water. He moved his hand and wiped it off his face. His eyes now opened as he looked at his hand, tinted red with blood. ’Is it my blood?’ Prince Arlo thought rather detachedly but why was it that he did not feel any pain? He did not know what to think anymore or how to process this situation. People say you do not feel pain when you are dead. So... was he dead?

"Get up." A deep masculine voice spoke into his ears, making Prince Arlo look up in shock. He saw a man extending his hand to him. Prince Arlo’s breath hitched as he shrunk back, his eyes warily gazing on that hand. He was a little afraid and did not want to rush to accept this stranger’s help. There was fear in his heart as he returned his gaze to the man.

The hand in front of him was still there but the man was not looking. He had a sword in his other hand which jabbed and slashed expertly around, resulting in the dark clothed men falling and never getting up.

"What’s wrong? Princess Eleanor is worried about you." As soon as Prince Arlo heard those words, his eyes widened in shock. He did not know that the man was here from the Roulux Empire.

As Prince Arlo looked carefully as he noticed the man was wearing a mask. Maybe because he was standing against the light, he could not see earlier, but now he suddenly remembered. This man was Princess Eleanor’s escort. ’Is he here to save me on sister Eleanor’s orders?’

Prince Arlo was a little hesitant but he still took hold of the man’s hand.

Grand Duke Christopher looked down as he felt a soft touch wrapping around his palm. No matter if he was the heir to the throne, right now, he was still a child. Grand Duke Christopher could feel it in the trembling of his body.

Suddenly a sword came toward him. Grand Duke Christopher was not ready, but once he saw something shiny coming toward him, his body reacted instinctively and he leaned back. He could not forget that Prince Arlo was with him now. And the young Prince was hurt. He could not bring the young prince back in such a state to the Empire.

’Princess Eleanor was already very sad. What if she finds out that even with me here, Prince Arlo still got hurt?’ Grand Duke Christopher drew in a deep breath. He looked around and saw countless dead bodies scattered around them.

The people who came along with the carriage were all killed. Grand Duke Christopher knew what their target was Prince Arlo, but looking at the situation, it was evident that they did not want to leave any traces behind. He sneered as he thought how cruel Duke Felix was.

Only a few of the rebels were alive and still able to attack. Grand Duke Christopher took a deep breath as he picked the prince up. He could feel the young prince’s body stiffen, but he did not have a choice.

Grand Duke Christopher looked at his horse. Wind. In situations like this, Wind was trained to lead all the remaining killers to a suitable distance so that Grand Duke Christopher could kill them with ease.

A cold smile played over his lips. "Wind, let the circus begin."

As soon as Grand Duke Christopher’s voice sounded out loud and clear, the whole surrounding stopped. No one knew what was happening as the sound of heavy galloping could be heard.

Grand Duke Christopher hugged Prince Arlo’s body close to his. He could see that there was blood running down his leg, but this was not the time to stop and attend to his wounds. Grand Duke’s eyes sharpened as he looked to the side. His hold on the sword tightened as he said in a whisper. "Close your eyes and hold on tight. The fight is going to be ugly."

Prince Arlo swallowed hard as he looked around him. There were still some of the rebels who stood at a certain distance. They were ready to kill and he could feel their eyes on him. Prince Arlo heard a bird’s cry and he knew who it was.

’Sea!’ Prince Arlo thought as he looked up as he saw Sea perched on the branch looking at him and moving his head as if telling him to trust the man.

Prince Arlo hugged Grand Duke Christopher’s neck as he closed his eyes tightly. He buried his head into the man’s shoulders as he tried to tell his 10-year-old self that he would be alive. Princess Eleanor must have sent this man to save him.

Grand Duke Christopher smiled as his eyes locked with Wind’s, who ran faster in a circle. He looked like a mad horse pushing the rebels who were at the side to a distance closer to Grand Duke Christopher.

The Grand Duke’s eyes narrowed as he moved his body closer. As the people started moving closer, his sword started moving towards them. Wind was still running in a circle but the circle was getting smaller and smaller.

He was a trained horse who knew when to attack and when to stop. As soon as he could sense that a sword was coming his way, he would increase his speed or take a step back and run over the man. It was something that he was trained to do on the battlefield.

Grand Duke Christopher smiled as he started killing the people coming their way. He turned around as his sword flashed through the wind, cutting through the rebel’s flesh slightly.

There was no remorse or guilt in the Grand Duke’s eyes. He knew that if he did not kill them all, the situation would turn out to be worse.

"YOU SHOULDN’T BE HERE!" A loud voice came, making Grand Duke Christopher shake. Pain ran through his body but he did not stop. Grand Duke Christopher looked around as he saw the man holding a sword dripping with blood. The wound on his back was still burning as he tried to maintain his cool.

Grand Duke’s eyes darkened as he moved towards the man. He remembered that he was the one who was distributing the badges to the others. "Wrong move."

Grand Duke Christopher’s sword did not stop as his eyes glinted. Even though he was only using one arm, his strength was not to be looked down upon. The sword cut through his flesh as the man’s sword hit the ground.

"AHHHH!!!" A piercing scream rang through the air but before the man could continue wailing, the cry suddenly stopped as if the source of his distress was over in a second.

Prince Arlo could see blood arcing through the air when he peeked out, a little curious at why the scream suddenly stopped. Frightened at the sight, he swallowed hard and buried his head back into the Grand Duke’s shoulders again, too frightened to look again. His body was moving in all directions but he kept as quiet as possible. He wanted to make his existence as small as possible, so that no one would notice that he was still there.

Soon Prince Arlo’s body stopped moving. Nothing else moved, but soon he could feel the hand holding him loosening a little.

The fright in Prince Arlo’s heart grew. His hold on the man’s neck tightened. ’Did he die? What is happening? Am I going to die next?’

Many questions were running through his mind but soon he heard a sharp voice from above his head, "Prince, if you tighten your grip any more, I might be the one lying next to all these corpses."

Prince Arlo did not understand what the man was saying at first but soon the meaning of the words sank in and he opened his eyes wide. The sun’s rays hit his pupils as he subconsciously closed them again.

He then opened his eyes slowly and he could see the dead bodies surrounding him. All the people were lying on the ground dead. Some had deep wound marks on their body, and some were covered in red. But none were standing nor left alive.

Prince Arlo subconsciously closed his eyes for a few moments. He had never seen such a brutal sight before. His young heart was still innocent. But as he thought that it could very well be his body that would have been lying here, he trembled.

"You are safe now, but until when?" came the voice of the man that had saved him.

Prince Arlo’s eyes widened in shock. What was the meaning of those words? Until when? ’Is the man planning to kill me himself?’
