Chapter 198: Chapter 198

Sir Kit and Commander Colt’s eyes met as their horses ran towards the borders.

"You go to base 13 and make sure to get the knights to enter the capital soon." Sir Kit removed the mask as his eyes narrowed. He did not want to show his face to Prince Arlo just yet, but he knew that if he had to leave the borders, he had to move through the gate guarded by the Beaumont knights. And showing his true face was the best way to move swiftly without hindrance.

"But Grand Duke..." Commander Colt said but his voice was cut off when he saw the rage in Grand Duke Beaumont’s eyes.

"Colt, you cannot stay away from her. What if Richard calls for you? Are you going to stay still and let him find out that you have left Princess Eleanor alone under my orders? Do you want to mess the plan up and make Prince Richard realize that his most trusted Commander is not following his orders but mine?" Grand Duke Christopher’s voice was stiff as if he was getting irritated and uneasy.

"I understand, Your Grace. I will be back to the mansion in no time." Commander Colt said in a hurry as he leaned forward on the horse, increasing its spread as he moved in a slightly different direction. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"I hope that Prince Richard does not suspect anything just yet. It is still not the time." Grand Duke Christopher said with a small smile on his face as his gaze looked off at a distance. He could see the gates there as the speed of the horse increased.

—--

Grand Duke Christopher looked up at the sky. The eagle named Sea was flying right above him. He could see the bird flying at a distance as if checking the surroundings and coming back to guide him in the right direction.

Grand Duke Christopher was happy when he saw what the eagle was trying to do. He was happy that whoever trained him had done an excellent job. He would be qualified as a person to work in the preparation of wars.

A bird as intelligent as Sea was an asset to the army, but why was he a messenger bird of the young Prince? Grand Duke Christopher thought back to seeing the Princess stroking the bird as if she had met an old friend. Maybe Princess Eleanor also had a chance to raise him?

Grand Duke Christopher smiled as he thought of Princess Eleanor. He could picture her face in his mind but soon, her smiling image turned sad. There was a fear in her eyes of losing the only family member she had left.

Grand Duke Christopher knew that Princess Eleanor held a soft spot for the young Prince. He still remembered seeing Prince Arlo running towards her with tears in his eyes when she was about to leave for the Roulux Empire. It was as if he was losing his loved one forever. There was sadness in his eyes alone as if he was going to miss the Princess a lot.

The Grand Duke knew that Princess Eleanor felt the same. She hated her Uncle and Aunt and even hated her cousin, Princess Macy. But the child was innocent. He was not involved in anything that was going on and maybe Princess Eleanor could also see that there was a deep sadness in his eyes. Maybe Prince Arlo felt alone as well.

Grand Duke Christopher shook his head to remove the distracting thoughts from his mind. He knew that even if Princess Eleanor said she did not have any family left, it was not true. She still considered Prince Arlo as family and it was evident.

"I will not let anything happen to him." Grand Duke Christopher murmured to himself.

Wind was running at a high speed but it was still steady. Grand Duke Christopher looked at the sky as he saw Sea again flying in circles. The Grand Duke pulled Wind back as he stopped the horse. His hand patted and stroked the side of Wind’s neck, making him feel safe and stopping him from making any noise.

Grand Duke Christopher looked around but he could not see anything. But when he looked up again, he saw Sea flying down as he sat on one of the branches at the far end of the clearing. His eyes were looking straight ahead.

Grand Duke Christopher knew that something was wrong. The eagle was trying to tell him to be careful. His hand slipped into his side pocket to pull out the mask and he wore it with practiced ease. Wind trotted towards the tree where Sea was perched. His movement was silent but in the quietness, it did cause some destruction.

Grand Duke Christopher shook his head in annoyance as he pulled Wind back. Wind’s movement was slow and soft. The Grand Duke’s gaze focused in front of him as he saw some people with cloth tied over the lower half of their faces, trying to hide their identities. What caught his eye was something that a man was distributing around.

Wind stood still behind the trunk of a huge tree as Grand Duke Christopher spied on the man. He could see that it was something shiny. Grand Duke Christopher did not have to guess, he noticed the shape and immediately knew what it was.

’The Beaumont household badge. They are still using it,’ Grand Duke Christopher’s lips curled into a sneer as he shook his head. He had a reason to blame the Crown Prince for his invasion. And the other things had already been produced by him.

Grand Duke Christopher was silent as he remained in that position for a long time. He knew that if those people were here, then that only meant that Prince Arlo had yet to arrive. He did not know from which direction he would be coming from, but he was sure that this was their attack site.

Grand Duke Christopher looked at the swords and other weapons that these people had brought along. He had a slight understanding of how they were planning to stop the carriage and attack. Soon, Grand Duke Christopher could see the carriage coming his way. He knew that the people in front were ready but so was he. His hand moved to his side, and he silently slid his sword out. His body was coiled and tense, ready to attack whenever needed. His goal was in sight. He had to save the young Prince at all costs.

—--

Prince Arlo stood in front of his mother as he blinked his eyes. "I do not want to leave you alone, but I do not have a choice."

Prince Arlo saw his father who held onto his mother’s shoulders as if giving her strength. His eyes looked at Prince Arlo as he said in a stiff tone, "You are the heir of the Angevin Kingdom. You need to rest properly and come back to us healthy. I will not leave this matter alone. The Beaumont household of the Roulux Empire has to pay for this."

Prince Arlo sighed. He knew that he was in no situation to argue with his parents nor was he in any situation to demand understanding from them. He could sense that his father was obsessed with the throne and how to keep it within his family.

Prince Arlo nodded his head as he hid his uneasiness behind a polite smile. He bowed down as he said, "I understand."

Prince Arlo’s eyes drifted to the side as he stole a glance at his sister, Princess Macy whose whole attention was on her new husband.

"Duchess Landon," Prince Arlo said, not referring to his sister as Princess anymore. He could see the slight shock on her face which then turned into a satisfied smile.

"Take care Prince Arlo." Princess Macy smiled brightly but her eyes very quickly turned back towards her husband. All of her attention was given only to him and no matter what the situation was, she only had eyes for her husband.

Prince Arlo shook his head as he scoffed internally. He had no expectations from his family anymore. Especially from his sister. Princess Macy had barely come to visit, even when she knew the situation he was in.

Prince Arlo’s legs were shaking slightly as he took a deep breath. His strength did not allow him to stand still for a long time.

"Prince, I hope you come back soon," Duke Felix said with a smile, but Prince Arlo could sense the evil glint in his eyes. He was young but not dumb. He understood the hidden meaning behind those loving words.

"I will." Prince Arlo answered dutifully as he sighed. Although he said those words, he was not confident enough to believe it to come true. There was a slight chance that maybe he would never get the chance to even reach the mountains.

Prince Arlo sat in the carriage and saw the palace and his family disappearing in the distance. ’I hope sister Eleanor got the letter."

Prince Arlo did not think much about his own situation. The carriage took the known route as he kept staring out the window. Although he did not show that he was scared, the reality was that his heart was shaking every mile the carriage got further from the palace. He knew that at any moment, his life might come to an end. It was a fearful experience.

"GET DOWN!!" A loud voice came his way and before he knew anything, his eyes darkened.
