The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 200
Prince Arlo swallowed hard.
"Until when?" Prince Arlo’s eyes widened. "What do you mean by that?"
Grand Duke Christopher shook his head. "What I mean is that since this attempt has failed, there might be someone else coming after you, Prince."
Prince Arlo was silent. He bit his lips as he nodded his head. Grand Duke Christopher did not wait any longer as he sat on Wind, took the reins and flicked it to urge the house to move faster. There was no turning back now, and Grand Duke Christopher knew it. But before Wind could gallop off, something caught his eyes.
"Stop!" The Grand Duke said as he pulled Wind back. His legs stopped abruptly but soon he stabilized himself.
Prince Arlo was confused. He did not know how to respond to the situation. There was a small possibility that the man would leave him, but he was sure that it was not the case.
"Hold on tight." The man’s voice was stern, giving the order. But Prince Arlo did not mind. If listening to his order meant giving him another chance of survival at this moment, he was more than ready to accept it.
The Grand Duke walked towards the killers and bent down when he reached one. He saw the badge which looked like the one from House Beaumont. ’I am right, they are out to frame me.’
Grand Duke Christopher bent down as he removed the badges from every soldier, not leaving a single one. They were the evidence of the Emperor’s betrayal.
"What is this?" He looked down and he saw something shining golden inside the man’s shirt. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the man’s face. He was the one who had been distributing the badges.
Grand Duke Christopher did not waste any more time as he took the thing that was there. It was a roll of small paper tied with a golden thread. Grand Duke Christopher’s eyes narrowed. After all, he could understand what was happening.
There were not only one but two. Grand Duke Christopher’s lips were curled up. He laughed as he said, "They really thought that nothing was going to go wrong with their plan? Did they think that they’d only succeed?" A small sneer curled his lips.
The Grand Duke took the two pages as he sat on Wind again. He guided him towards the rebel’s base where he had seen them earlier. He was sure that there were two messenger vbird cages prepared there.
As soon as Grand Duke Christopher arrived there, he knew that he was right. The bird cages were ready. He could see a familiar bird. It was used to send information to the Roulux Emperor’s palace. They were trained in that way. Their yellow feathers represent the prosperity of the Empire.
The Grand Duke did not waste any time as he stopped Wind and jumped down. He removed the birds from their cages and attached the rolled up papers to their legs. The words were beautifully written there, proclaiming their victory. He freed the birds as they flew in the opposite directions.
Grand Duke Christopher turned around only to see Prince Arlo looking at him with a suspicious gaze. He did not understand what had happened. Was the man a friend or an enemy?
"They were the letters from the rebel groups to their masters. Isn’t it better to let them think that the work is done, so that they do not send more people to attack us?" Grand Duke Christopher said as he smiled. His eyes looked straight at Prince Arlo who nodded his head in understanding and agreement. But his hand held tightly onto Wind’s mane.
"And I found some medicines too." Grand Duke Christopher smiled as he removed a small bottle of medicine he had found inside. Maybe the rebels had prepared it because they knew they would get hurt.
Grand Duke Christopher could still sense some hesitation from Prince Arlo as he removed the handkerchief that Princess Eleanor had given him. "Hold on to this, I will clean the wound and apply the medicine. We need to bandage your wounds."
Grand Duke Christopher’s words were not clear, but Prince Arlo understood. He took the handkerchief with a trembling hand as he looked down at it. It belonged to Sister Eleanor. It was clear now. The man standing in front of him waa sent by his sister to save him.
"How is she?" Prince Arlo asked with a trembling voice. He wanted to know how his sister Eleanor was doing.
"She is fine but worried. She will be happier to see you in person." Grand Duke Christopher said as he washed Prince Arlo’s legs. His eyes moved toward the small red spot surrounding his wound. "Did you always have these red spots?"
Grand Duke Christopher did not want to question the boy but there was a smile on the prince’s face to make him look harmless. But his eyes were narrowed. He knew why there were red spots on his legs. It was a peculiar poison called ’Renies’. But these red dots only appear when the poison is slowly being given to him.
"Not really, but from the last few weeks, it has started to appear." Prince Arlo looked down at his legs, "The doctor said that they will go away soon."
"Are the doctors from the royal palace?" Grand Duke asked as his eyes looked at Prince Arlo. He extended his hand, demanding the handkerchief.
Prince Arlo nodded his head as he gave the handkerchief to the man. "They are from the royal palace. They said that I can be cured but I need to rest."
"They said it wrong." Grand Duke Christopher said. He did not want to give false hope to the Prince but he understood that the people in the royal palace of the Angevin Kingdom were ones who could not be trusted as well.
"The wound is deep, and the red spot appears only when a large amount of poison is supplied to you. Purifying the body from the poison is a lengthy and tedious process. Although it is difficult, we have Doctor Raul who can help you. So the Prince does not have to worry."
Prince Arlo did not understand what the man was trying to say. When he saw his wound wrapped up he nodded his head. "Will I be able to meet Princess Eleanor?"
"Yes, She is at Beaumont mansion to get treatment from Doctor Raul as well. So the Prince would be able to meet her, but you have to stay there like a dead person. Someone from the royal palace wants to kill you and Princess Eleanor wants her family to leave."
Prince Arlo understood the man’s words. The meaning was right on point. He looked up to the branch of the tree as he saw Sea still perching there. "Will Sea be coming with us?"
Prince Arlo could not help but ask. Sea was a bird that he had taken care of. The only one who was loyal to him. Prince Arlo was also grateful to him for saving his life. If he did not fly to Princess Eleanor then how would he guide the man to save him, "He is like my family member..."
Prince Arlo’s voice trembled as Grand Duke nodded his head, "Yes, I know. I am well aware of it."
Prince Arlo’s eyes brightened as he looked at him with a questioning gaze. Grand Duke Christopher could not help but continue, "Princess Eleanor looks fondly on the bird as well. If she likes it, of course, you can have it in the Beaumont mansion."
"Do you like sister Eleanor?" Prince Arlo asked subconsciously. He did not want to sound rude, but he felt that the man in the mask must like his sister a lot. If that was not the case, why would a knight from the Empire come all the way here to save him, the Prince who was destined to die? Just because Princess Eleanor did not want to lose her family?
Prince Arlo understood that no one would do it unless they really like the person.
Grand Duke Christopher looked at the young prince who was less than half his size. He smiled as he got up and sat on Wind. "I like the Princess."
Grand Duke Christopher looked up at the sky as he saw Sea flying away towards the direction of the Roulux Empire. The smile on his lips was huge. "I hope the Prince will not mind me liking the Princess."
Prince Arlo was silent as if he was in deep thought. He did not want to sound mean to the man that hsd saved him, but he also knew the reason why Princess Eleanor was called to the Roulux Empire.
"You are a strong knight. But Princess Eleanor is called to the Empire to get married. What if they choose her?" Prince Arlo asked in a small voice. The speed of the horse was fast, but he still managed to keep his voice steady.
"I am honored that prince Arlo thinks that I am a strong knight." There was a smile in Grand Duke Christopher’s tone. "And to answer the question, even if the Princess is chosen, I am sure that I might be able to hold the position next to her. Whatever she wants, I will make sure to become that very person." The Grand Duke answered confidently.
