Chapter 197: Chapter 197

Princess Eleanor was silent as tears started running down her eyes.

"What is making you cry?" Sir Kit’s voice brought Princess Eleanor back to reality. She looked over to the bookshelves. Princess Eleanor did not know when Sir Kit had entered, but she did not care. Her thoughts were messy as she bit her lips in annoyance.

Princess Eleanor looked at Sir Kit as the tears continued to flow down subconsciously.

"Don’t cry." Sir Kit walked over and he gently enveloped Princess Eleanor into his arms. "What happened, dearest?" His tone was tender as he asked and the endearment warmed Princess Eleanor’s heart.

Princess Eleanor bit her lips as she tried to control her emotions but there was no use. Soon a wave of warmth spread over her cheeks and that made Princess Eleanor realize that it was Sir Kit who was rubbing away her tears.

"He did it all." Princess Eleanor said with a sob, "I thought he was my friend... but he had killed them all!!"

Sir Kit knew who Princess Eleanor was talking about. She did not even have to explain her feelings. It was clear to him.

"It’s okay. I will not let him stay happy for long." Sir Kit ran his hand over Princess Eleanor’s back. He was trying hard to make her feel better.

Once Princess Eleanor’s mood lifted a little, Sir Kit saw the eagle sitting on the bed as if it belonged there. He wanted to make it fly away. After all, they were known to attack people, but when Sir Kit saw a handkerchief around its neck, he had a brief understanding of who might have sent it here.

Princess Eleanor followed Sir Kit’s eyes as she said, "Arlo sent a letter. You need to send someone to save him. He will be sent to the mountain mansion soon to recover. It is near the borders. I am afraid..."

Princess Eleanor did not complete the words but soon she realized that maybe she did not have to. Sir Kit understood as he rubbed her hands, attempting to warm them up.

"It’s okay. Nothing will happen to him. I will make sure that he is brought here as soon as possible. Healthy and alive." Sir Kit promised as he swiped off the crystal-like teardrop hanging at the end of Princess Eleanor’s lashes.

Princess Eleanor nodded her head in agreement. She trusted the man completely but she could not help but bite on her lips nervously as it concerned Arlo’s wellbeing.

"Don’t cry. Before tomorrow evening, your cousin will be here. I will bring him back." Sir Kit smiled as he dropped a kiss on Princess Eleanor’s forehead. His strong and reassuring voice calmed her turbulent heart effectively.

"Commander Colt ...?" Princess Eleanor did not continue her question as she swallowed hard.

Sir Kit understood her worries. "He will be coming along with me. Do not worry, I will take Wind with me. He is the fastest horse on the continent. I will be back here in two days. Lady Gisella and the other knights of House Beaumont will make sure that nothing happens to you in the meanwhile. The doors of the Beaumont mansion will be closed until I come back. Even the Crown Prince will not be granted entrance."

Princess Eleanor believed in Sir Kit’s words. She closed her eyes as she nodded her head in comfort. "I understand."

"And there are also the two knights that you have brought along. Do you care for them?" Princess Eleanor did not understand the question. She tilted her head in confusion.

"They belong to the King. So I have no particular attachment to them. They will be returning to the Angevin Kingdom as soon as the banquet takes place." Princess Eleanor explained.

"So even if they lost their lives, it would not matter, right?" Sir Kit studied Princess Eleanor’s expressions as he asked in a careful manner.

"They are people who should have been loyal to my parents at the initial stage. However, they have failed their duties. So whether they stay alive or not, has nothing to do with me."

"Excellent! Now be rest assured that I will bring Prince Arlo back to you." Sir Kit reassured Princess Eleanor. "I will make arrangements immediately." He nodded vigorously as he smiled in satisfaction.

Sir Kit looked at Princess Eleanor who was still holding onto his hand. "Wait a second." Princess Eleanor got up as she walked toward the drawer. "Take this with you. If Prince Arlo hesitates, show this to him. He will understand."

"And why do you think he will hesitate?" Sir Kit asked as he looked down at Princess Eleanor’s hand. It was yet another handkerchief but it had a weird decoration embroidered on it. He took the handkerchief anyway as he looked at Princess Eleanor for her response.

"No matter what others think, he is still a ten year-old boy. He understands that his life is in danger, yet he is trying to maintain his cool. At this point, he would be feeling alone and helpless. I can understand him a little. He will not trust anyone easily unless there is reason to."

Sir Kit nodded at Princess Eleanor’s words. But something was bothering him. "Prince Arlo can tell all this to his parents. Why would he..."

"He will be able to let you know once you rescue him. Hurry, time is ticking." Princess Eleanor cut Sir Kit’s question off as she looked at Sea who was still perched on the bed frame.

"Sea." As soon as the eagle heard Princess Eleanor’s call, "Show him the way to Arlo. We need to save your master." Princess Eleanor gently caressed Sea’s head which he enjoyed.

Soon his eyes looked straight at Sir Kit as if observing the man. There was a slight feeling of him being judged, but soon the bird moved his body back and spread open his wings. It was a show of power.

Sir Kit looked at the eagle as his lips curled up. "Don’t worry. I have a brief understanding of the Crown Prince. He must be thinking to put the blame on me, so I can understand where he is planning to kill the Prince."

Princess Eleanor’s eyes widened in fear as she swallowed hard. Listening to the words alone was making her heart beat faster as she asked anxiously, "Where?"

"Near base 13." Sir Kit said as he looked at Princess Eleanor. He cupped her cheeks as he continued, "Don’t worry. I will make the necessary arrangements."

Princess Eleanor nodded her head as she saw Sir Kit out. Her heart was beating faster but there was nothing that she could do but be patient and wait.

Princess Eleanor moved towards Sea as she touched its head. The eagle rubbed his head into her palms as if he missed her a lot. "You have to show them the quickest way. We cannot let the others harm Arlo. Do you understand me, Sea?"

Princess Eleanor bent down and placed her eyes level to the eagle’s, who blinked his red eyes a few times as she patted his head a couple more times. "Do everything it takes to save your master, Sea. That is your mission for now." Sea screeched his agreement before flying off.

—--

Commander Colt stood in front of Princess Eleanor. He noted her puffy eyes and knew exactly how worried she must have been. No wonder Sir Kit was so anxious and angry.

"I hope that Commander Colt will not report this to Crown Prince Richard," Princess Eleanor requested as her eyes blinked nervously. She did not know what to think anymore, but she could only hope that the killer did not know that the prey was still alive.

"Princess, I have told you this once and I will tell you this again now. I am your escort at the Beaumont Mansion. So the Princess does not have to worry about anything. I will never tell others about what happens here."

Princess Eleanor listened to Commander Colt’s words as she took a deep breath. She knew that there was still a small part of her that did not believe his words. But the part of her that trusted in Sir Kit decided to put her trust in him. After all, Sir Kit believed in him as well.

Princess Eleanor smiled and nodded her head. Her eyes moved towards the man who was near the horse she was well acquainted with. "Wind." Princess Eleanor walked towards Wind as she lifted her hand to the magnificent horse. Her fingers moved through his long silky mane. "Bring them all back safely." She whispered to him as she hugged his powerful neck for a moment before releasing him.

Wind looked down at Princess Eleanor as he moved his head up and down as he neighed, as though understanding what Princess Eleanor was telling him. Princess Eleanor laughed as she moved towards Wind and whispered into his ears. "I believe you."

Princess Eleanor looked to the side at Sir Kit. She did not say anything but the silence was deafening. "I will bring him back." Sir Kit reiterated this phrase. He knew this was what she needed to hear.

"I know..." Princess Eleanor sighed helplessly as she looked up into Sir Kit’s eyes. It was burning with unknown emotions. "I hope everything works out."

"Everything will." Sir Kit said firmly as he gave Princess Eleanor’s hand a reassuring squeeze. "Wind is with me. We will reach there before anything happens. And your eagle is also here to guide us." Sir Kit looked up as he saw the eagle circling above their heads.

"Yes, Sea will direct you. He is an intelligent bird." Princess Eleanor smiled. She knew that she was thinking too deeply about the matter but the thought did not leave her. She only hoped to see her young cousin safe for now. And as for her former best friend. She had other plans for him. Her heart turned cold at the thought of him.

Soon Princess Eleanor could see Sir Kit and Commander Colt getting on their horses and making their way out. Her eyes shimmered with a layer of unshed tears but she controlled herself. It was not time for tears. She knew that revenge has yet to be served.
