Chapter 196: Chapter 196

Princess Eleanor looked at the sky as she tried to clear her mind.

Her thoughts were all over the place and she could not understand many things. There were so many possibilities that were making rounds in her mind. So many questions were unanswered.

Princess Eleanor looked up at the sky. She had just finished the medicine that the Chief Healer had brought over for her. It was a necessity and Princess Eleanor could see the smiling face of the man. He was happy that the medicine was showing its results.

Princess Eleanor knew that he wanted to urge her to go back to the Royal Palace soon and she intended to do so as well. But now the situation has somehow changed. Unusual things were happening in the Angevin Kingdom. Attacks were occurring there and Princess Eleanor was fearful that Prince Arlo might be hurt.

"Who might be behind it? Crown Prince Richard?" Princess Eleanor thought as she sighed. "But why? I have already agreed to say his name as my chosen. So why? What is the reason behind it?"

Princess Eleanor’s mind was preoccupied with a lot of things. There were many possibilities that popped up in her mind from time to time.

"He was helping my Uncle and Aunt. But could Duke Felix be involved in all of this as well? Could he have been an active participant? Did he ..."

It was hard for Princess Eleanor to come to a conclusion. From Nia’s explanation of things, it was clear that Prince Edwin, her brother, had his doubts, but were they really true? Could her best friend try to kill her and her family?

There was a knock on the door, making Princess come back to reality. She looked at the door as she called, "Come in."

Nia walked into the house and she blinked her eyes nervously. "Princess, are you alright?"

Princess Eleanor knew why Nia was asking such a question. After all, Nia was not only the lady-in-waiting but also her friend. She knew that hearing about the attack on Prince Arlo had affected her.

"I am alright, but I hope Prince Arlo is keeping healthy too." Princess Eleanor sighed as she closed her eyes. She wanted to go and meet Prince Arlo but she knew it was impossible. And Sir Kit had already reassured her that he would make sure her young cousin would be safe. Although Princess Eleanor hated the others in that family, she did not hate Prince Arlo. The young child was so pure and innocent.

"Princess, is it Sea?" Nia’s voice made Princess Eleanor’s eyes widen in shock. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Sea?" Princess Eleanor quickly looked up, only to see an eagle circling high up overhead. His red eyes looked straight at her as if he had identified her.

Princess Eleanor was sure that it was the Sea she had gifted to Prince Arlo. The bird was caught and trained to be a hunting bird but when Prince Arlo saw him, he was so mesmerised that he wanted to have him as his pet.

It took them some time to train him as a messenger bird. Prince Arlo took good care of the bird as if it was the most precious thing to him.

"Yes, it is Sea." Princess Eleanor confirmed as she nodded and stretched out her hand, indicating for the bird to come to her. Those actions were the result of long practice sessions between herself and Prince Arlo in the initial days.

Princess Eleanor looked at the eagle who sat at the window sill as if he belonged there. His feathers had a tint of grey and blue in them, that was why they had given him the name Sea.

Princess Eleanor moved her open palm in front of the bird waiting until he accepted her. She knew that he was a hunting bird and that a wrong move can turn him aggressive and bring on an attack.

Sea moved his head towards Princess Eleanor’s open palm as he tilted his head a little. It took him a few seconds but soon he rubbed his head on her palms, indicating that he had recognized her.

Princess Eleanor smiled as she stroked his head a few times before she saw the handkerchief on his neck. "Prince Arlo sent you a message."

It was not a question but a statement. Sea was silent as he blinked his eyes a few times before he moved his leg forward. Princess Eleanor could see a paper tied around his legs. It was a letter and Princess Eleanor knew who it was from.

Princess Eleanor did not waste any time as she took the letter and started reading it. A lot of things were left unclear but there were many that were made clear as well. She understood the whole situation in bits and pieces.

"Princess..." Nia said in a small tone. But Princess Eleanor was still engrossed in the letter. She did not seem to want to speak as her eyes were still focused on the letter.

"Nia, call Sir Kit over." Princess Eleanor said in a solemn tone. Her eyes were filled with unknown emotions as she tried to maintain her cool. "I have something urgent to discuss with him."

Nia looked at Princess Eleanor as she swallowed hard. It was understandable that Princess Eleanor was not happy with the situation that she was facing.

Nia did not waste any time as she rushed out in a hurry and walked past everyone. She knew where she should go. She had to find Lady Gisella or Doctor Raul who will inform Sir Kit.

Princess Eleanor knew that Nia would need some time to come back. There was a possibility that it might take an hour depending on who Nia looked for.

Princess Eleanor reread the letter from Prince Arlo.

[Dear Sister,

I hope the letter reaches you soon. There are many things that I want to tell you, but I do not think it will be the right time for that. But just let me say that I believe that Duke Felix is behind all this. I can swear on my life that I saw him smile when I was attacked. He is the only person who was present when I was injured. I don’t know why but I feel like this will not be the end of things. I will be travelling to the mountains to recover, but I do not know if I would make it. I just wanted to let you know that if I die, my sister and her husband will be the rightful heir to the throne. I hope sister Eleanor understands the real intentions of her friend soon.]

Princess Eleanor’s hold on the letter tightened as she closed her eyes. With the fact that he had sneaked out a letter to her through Sea, she could feel that Prince Arlo was afraid for his life. He was frightened that something would happen to him and maybe he might not make it to the mansion in the mountains. But he did not even once ask her to help him. All he cared about was letting Princess Eleanor know that she needs to be careful of her so-called best friend.

Tears formed in Princess Eleanor’s eyes as her heart started to beat faster. Her heart was racing as she tried to control her emotions but she struggled to do so. Many things were affecting her. Her younger cousin was so understanding that he even refrained from penning down a single word for his own survival. And yet, the best friend that she had trusted so much was trying so hard to eliminate everyone in his path to power.

"I never thought that you would be so vicious and selfish, Felix. When did you start to make plans?" Princess Eleanor sighed as she said in a soft voice, "If you wanted the throne from the very start, then why did you play with Nia’s feelings?"

Princess Eleanor looked at the letter again.

[I just wanted to let you know that if I die, my sister and her husband will be the rightful heir to the throne. I hope sister Eleanor understands the real intentions of her friend soon.]

Princess Eleanor now understood it all. If Duke Felix wanted to become the King, then he had to marry the Princess. But Princess Eleanor thought of him as a brother, so Duke Felix couldn’t marry her. But there was one more Princess in the Angevin Kingdom.

It made complete sense right now. Everything was falling into place. Princess Eleanor’s eyes flashed at the thought. Prince Edwin’s worries also made sense. Had he caught onto Felix’s thoughts?

Princess Eleanor bit her lips anxiously. The deeper she thought, the more fearful she became. "So Felix used Nia to understand what I am doing and to keep an eye on me. And Nia, unknown to the fact, was being used. He helped my uncle to kill my family and take the throne. But I was still alive. So I was sent here to the Roulux Empire and he married Macy. Now only one person is standing between him and the throne. Prince Arlo..."

Princess Eleanor reasoned it out in a whisper as she shook her head. "I never thought that he could plan it out so intricately. Maybe Felix wanted to use me to eliminate the current King and Queen too. Once the throne is vacant, he can claim it without any worries. What a plan Felix. Really what a plan!"
