Chapter 185: Chapter 185

Princess Eleanor blinked her eyes, "But where were you when they killed my family?"

Princess Eleanor could see that Sir Kit’s eyes were not looking quite right. "It is not that I do not trust you, but I just wanted some clarification. I just wanted to get the things in my head sorted out. I do not know why I think that... but I feel like I will believe whatever you say."

Sir Kit took a deep breath. He wanted to tell the truth but he could feel that Princess Eleanor was too vulnerable to handle the truth right now. "Princess, does it really matter?"

Princess Eleanor took a deep breath as she nibbled on her lips. She did not know what to make out of this situation. Does it matter? Princess Eleanor was asking herself this again and again. In any normal situation, it would not have mattered. After all, the end result is the same.

Princess Eleanor got up from the chair as she walked towards the window. Sir Kit could feel the emptiness in his hand as he looked at Princess Eleanor who turned around in a hurry.

"I have to think hard to make myself believe that it wasn’t you. I still remember that the Grand Duke was there when the attack happened. My family had sent a letter to him. So it should be the Grand Duke, right? But in my memory, the feeling I got from the things I felt was comfort. I don’t know how to explain it to you but I was comfortable. I felt blessed that you might be there because I think I saw your eyes in my dream."

Sir Kit got up from the seat as he walked toward Princess Eleanor. He touched her shoulders trying to stabilize her. Trying to make her less excitable. "If that gives you comfort, then go ahead and think that I was the one there. Just think about that and try to fight the nightmare that you have every night. And maybe, eventually the nightmare will disappear."

Sir Kit touched Princess Eleanor’s cheeks as he leaned into her. "I will do my best to make you feel safe. I will try and do everything possible to make you happy, Princess. Trust me, I have taken steps towards it. Soon, all of your questions will be answered and all of your worries will disappear. I’ll give you my word."

Princess Eleanor could see the strong emotions in Sir Kit’s eyes. She nodded her head as she leaned in closer to him. "I am comfortable with you. I love this feeling."

Princess Eleanor’s voice was soft as she whispered softly, I want to feel comfortable again. I want to feel happy again." Princess Eleanor’s eyes were shining, "Kiss me."

Princess Eleanor moved her hand as she wrapped it around Sir Kit’s neck. "Give me comfort."

Sir Kit could feel their breathing intertwine with one another’s as he moved closer. His heart was beating faster as he tried to control the overbearing emotion that was trying to take control. He wanted to engulf Princess Eleanor completely but fear stopped him.

Sir Kit did not want the Princess to feel pressured. Sir Kit’s lips touched Princess Eleanor’s as he moved closer to her. He wanted to make Princess Eleanor feel his love, his emotions. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Sir Kit’s hands moved when he pulled Princess Eleanor closer. He could feel Princess Eleanor’s body slowly relaxing as she pulled him towards her. Sir Kit was a little confused, but soon he knew what Princess Eleanor wanted to do.

As their kisses turned hungry, it felt like she wanted to wipe out all the questions in her mind. It was a feeling of getting the clarification that she could not get. As if she was comforting herself that she should trust this man as he would always be by her side.

Soon, the two separated and Sir Kit touched Princess Eleanor right over her heart. They were both breathless, but still looked at one another with love. "I will be by your side always to push the nightmares away."

Sir Kit did not let the words sink into Princess Eleanor’s mind as he dove in for another kiss, making the Princess forget everything else around her.

—---

"We are getting married tomorrow, and you are still reading the letter?" An irritated voice filled the room as an angry woman walked towards the table as she snatched the letter away angrily. "Is this more important than I am?"

Duke Felix looked up at Princess Macy. "You are thinking too much. I am working, so stop this." He got up as he took back the letter that was crumpled in Princess Macy’s fist and smoothed it out before folding it with care.

"IS THIS HOW YOU ARE GOING TO TREAT ME? YOUR WIFE?" Princess Macy was losing her mind. In front of all the nobles, she was the most lucky person who was about to marry the man that she had loved a lot. A man that had forgotten his past love and found new happiness with her. But she was well aware of the truth. "IS THE LETTER FROM ELEANOR? SHE IS SO IMPORTANT TO YOU THAT YOU ARE IGNORING YOUR WIFE?"

"Princess, you should restrain yourself. We will be married tomorrow. As of today, we are not married yet. So you are not my wife yet." Duke Felix took a step toward Princess Macy. His eyes were narrowed with rage, "And you should not forget why I am marrying you, Princess. I am not a person who will go back on his words. So I hope you will not go back on yours too."

Princess Macy wanted to say a lot of things. She could not understand what was wrong with her saying the word ’wife’. They will be married anyway, so how does it matter if she said it today or tomorrow?

"I have never lied to you. Ever. You should know it. But it is you that is not keeping your word. You said that once you marry me, you will forget about Princess Eleanor. So why are you writing her a letter? Why are you still communicating with her?"

Princess Macy was losing her mind. She wanted to trust Duke Felix but she still could not. She, who had always been in love with him, had seen how he used to look for her to forget his love, it must be hard for Duke Felix too. So Princess Macy decided to give him space. She did not want to force him into anything, but it never stopped.

The letters were still exchanged. Even when he agreed to marry her, the communication did not stop. Princess Macy was always skeptical about her relationship but she just loved the man. What could she do? She was the happiest person in the world when Duke Felix decided to marry her and now that the marriage was tomorrow, the groom was nowhere to be found. It was as if she had forced this marriage upon him when he was the one who accepted it willingly.

"And what makes you think that this is from her?" Duke Felix’s voice was sharp, making Princess Macy shiver. She could sense that Duke Felix was angry.

Princess Macy wanted to take a stand for herself. She did not need anyone to tell her what she was feeling or how wrong she was. She just wanted the man she loved, the man she was about to be married to, to pay attention to her. To ask her if something was bothering her. She wanted him to sit with her and listen to her feelings. Was it too much to ask?

Princess Macy took a few steps back. Duke Felix was right, how did she know? The answer was simple. She did not know. But when your man does not pay attention to you, your mind starts making things up. And the first thing that Princess Macy thought of when she entered the Duke’s study and saw the man simply looking at a letter in his hand, was that it was from Princess Eleanor.

Princess Macy did not want to accept it, but as soon as the thought hit her, her mind stopped working and she just rushed forward unthinkingly. "I do not know."

Princess Macy said in a whisper. Her eyes were filled with tears as she felt unwanted. Her voice started cracking as she continued. "I do not know. But what should I think? You haven’t come to see me at the palace in a month, although you are there to meet father every day. Whenever I am at the Duke’s mansion and try to meet you, you are always busy. You do not behave the way you should at any time for me. Just yesterday, I wanted us to try on our wedding clothes and you rejected it as if it was the worst thing ever. As if I was forcing you into things that you do not want to do. As if I am the one who is making you uncomfortable,"

Princess Macy’s eyes burned as she rubbed her eyes from time to time. She did not want to show her vulnerability, but the piled up anger refused to settle. "Do you even want to get married to me? I do not want a marriage where I am the one who is running this relationship when we both should be partners in it. If this is the situation I have to face daily, then should we stop here?"
