Chapter 147: Chapter 147

Princess Eleanor did not know how to tackle the situation.

’It doesn’t matter, I have to go there and find what I want,’ Princess Eleanor nodded her head as she bit her lips. ’After tonight’s dinner, I have to make sure that I enter the study room.’

Princess Eleanor was determined. Her eyes narrowed as she looked outside. She could see some of the knights walking around in the garden far away. She knew that they were going to the training grounds.

Princess Eleanor looked at a distance. She didn’t know who she was seeing, but it must be some knights. She could see them swinging the sword and some of them were running.

’Is Sir Kit among them too?’ Princess Eleanor thought but soon she realized what she was thinking about. Unable to clear her mind she shook her head and swallowed hard, ’Stop thinking about him. Yes, I need to stop thinking about him.’

Princess Eleanor walked outside of her room. Her eyes looked around as if she was calculating if there truly was any guard but there wasn’t. She walked a few steps when she heard a voice calling her.

"Princess,"

Princess Eleanor’s eyes widened in shock but she did not turn around. She knew that if she turned around now then her situation would be worse. Her facial expression will give her away.

Princess Eleanor could not help but take a few deep breaths. She knew that the situation was not getting better but she had to play her part. She practiced a smile on her face and once she was confident enough that the smile was not fake, Princess Eleanor turned around to look at the person.

"Head maid," Princess Eleanor smiled as she blinked her eyes, "You are here,"

The head maid would hardly disturb her. Initially, Princess Eleanor thought that the head maid would be arrogant and would not accept her but she soon realized how wrong she was. All the people here were loving and kind. There was no evil intent in them.

"Princess, are you going somewhere?" The head maid’s tone was soft as she walked towards the Princess. Although she was not young, but she wasn’t that old either. She was intelligent enough to know what to do in different situations.

The head maid had seen the change in the Grand Duke’s attitude in recent days. She knew that there was a high chance that the Princess in front of her might be the new head of the family but when she thought about the fact that the Princess was here to get married to the Crown prince, the head maid felt distressed.

"I was passing by and saw the Princess. If you don’t mind, I would like to go with you." the head maid suggested. Princess Eleanor could not help but smile. She nodded her head as she walked naturally as if she owned the place.

"Do you have a garden here?" Princess Eleanor asked as she blinked her eyes excitedly.

The head maid was silent. She knew that the Princess was hoping to see beautiful rays of flowers like the ones she saw in the temple or maybe in her own Kingdom, but the head maid knew that the Princess was about to be disappointed.

"There is a garden, let me take you there," The head maid said as she saw the sparkle in Princess Eleanor’s eyes. She did not want to disappoint the Princess but she also knew that the end result would not be good.

Soon they stood in front of a piece of land. The head maid looked at Princess Eleanor with a scared expression. She could see the pale face of Princess Eleanor as her eyes narrowed dangerously.

"So this is the garden," Princess Eleanor asked and once she saw the head maid nod, she could not help but sigh. She knew that her hopes were broken. The land was huge but the number of plants and trees was small. There were no flowering plants, only brushes. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"There are hardly any flowers," Princess Eleanor murmured in distress. She had a plan in her mind but when she looked at the garden she could only see it going into the drain. "I had heard that the people in the Empire loved to keep huge gardens. I even heard that the Crown Prince had a special garden just for himself where many flowers bloom."

"Well, most of the people do," the head maid said with a smile on her face but soon her eyes fell, "But the Grand Duke does not like it,"

"Do not like it? Why?" Princess Eleanor raised her eyebrows. She looked straight at the head maid as she blinked her eyes.

"The Grand Duke is hardly here. He is someone who enjoys his time on the battlefield. As for the matter of the garden, the Grand Duke had asked me to look into it," The head maid said truthfully.

The head maid was not happy with the situation that she was going through. She did not want to explain the situation to the Princess but somehow she felt like it was important. She had to explain. "As the Princess could see, there were only a handful of people in the grand duke’s mansion. It is not because the Grand duke lacks money but because he is never here. So we have hired only a few people."

Princess Eleanor nodded her head, "But why did you not plant flowers? Does the head maid not like them?" Princess Eleanor asked in a small voice. Her tone was soft but contained many unsaid questions buried deep.

The head maid shook her head, "No Princess, in reality, I do like them but I do not have time to pay attention to them. We do have a gardener but when we realized that none of the ladies would come to the Grand Duke’s mansion for tea parties or gatherings, the gardener thought he could be lazy. While he does grow vegetables at the very end of the garden so we always have fresh vegetables here."

"Has the Grand Duke never come here?" Princess Eleanor asked if she could not believe the Grand Duke would allow such a thing to happen in his mansion.

"The Grand Duke only has one order. The place should look green. So we have these trees. It does the job and the flowering plants need to be taken more care of and need more water, so we usually utilize it for the vegetables."

Princess Eleanor took a deep breath as she closed her eyes in irritation. She could not believe that she was here, listening to such things. There was a slight irritation in her head but she tried to manage it as much as she could.

"Hmm," The annoyance could not be hidden but the head maid understood what the Princess was getting at and her eyes sparkled.

"But Princess, it does not mean we do not have any flowers at all. We do have them but not roses. Would you like to see them?"

Princess Eleanor looked at the head maid in confusion. She soon nodded her head as she waited for the head maid to take her there.

The head maid laughed as she saw the hopefulness in Princess Eleanor’s eyes. They walked at a distance until they came to the back of the Beaumont Mansion. The area was a little away from the main building, but Princess Eleanor was sure that it could be seen through the windows.

Princess Eleanor’s eyes widened as she saw a colorful flower field spread on the ground. Her eyes were filled with shock as she saw many flowers such as starflower, Forget-Me-Not, rock cress, Pansy, Tulip, Salvia, and lavender.

Princess Eleanor’s eyes were filled with many emotions but she managed to hide them. She took a deep breath but the smile on her face could not vanish.

"This is beautiful," Princess Eleanor said under her breath. "You did this?"

The head maid smiled but did not nod, "Well, we all maids like to come here and sit. Many people are so engrossed in the large plant and flowers that they sometimes forget that these little plants are so beautiful. So all the maids have decided to plant something here."

Princess Eleanor smiled as she raised her lips. Her eyes stayed at a particular flower as she asked, "Can I plant something here too? I like gardening. That is something that gives me happiness,"

The head maid looked at Princess Eleanor for a brief second as she nodded her head, "Princess is free to plant any flowers that she likes. We will be honored."

Princess Eleanor smiled. Her mind was filled with only one thought. She had cleared a big huddle. All she has to do now is plant the seeds that she had brought. The happiness was undeniable and Princess Eleanor knew who would be helping her in this.

’Now all I have to do is to go to the Grand Duke’s study room tonight. I cannot wait for the night to fall.’
