The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 148
Princess Eleanor walked towards the door.
It was night time and there was no one in the corridor. Princess Eleanor could not help but agree that she was happy today. She had found a place where she could plant her seeds and no one would question her. Although there was a guilty conscience trying to sneak its head out but Princess Eleanor was sure to keep it on track and hidden.
’There is nothing bad,’ Princess Eleanor told herself again and again as she smiled. ’What I am doing is for my own good. I have to act according to my goal. I cannot act emotionally at this time.’
Princess Eleanor looked around, a little afraid that someone might be following her but soon her heart settled down when she realized that the corridor was empty but still Princess Eleanor knew that she could not keep her guards down.
Soon she arrived at the door of the study. It looked as depicted as she had seen yesterday. But the only difference was that she had Sir Kit by her side.
Princess Eleanor shook her head as she took a deep breath, She knew that she could not have such thoughts at this moment. Sir Kit was not here and by the look of it, he did not want her to be here as well.
’What is he afraid of?’ Princess Eleanor thought. She knew that she could not question Sir Kit because no matter what he was a knight of House Beaumont and now that the situation was taking such a turn he had to choose. ’But he chose the Grand Duke,’
Princess Eleanor closed her eyes in irritation, ’No he did not. Sir kit let me inside but the only difference is that he did not allow me to see each and everything.’
Princess Eleanor knew that even if she was sure that Sr Kit liked her she cannot push the man a lot. She looked around to make sure no one was there. Princess Eleanor’s heartbeats were running wide as she bit her lips and swallowed hard. Her eyes twinkled in dispersion as she took a deep breath. It was time to make a move and Princess Eleanor was ready to take the first step.
The door was slowly open. Princess Eleanor had never thought that the door would be this heavy. Maybe because it did not look so and Sir kit made it look very light when he opened it last night but that was not the case in reality.
It was only today that Princess Eleanor also noticed that the handle to the door was carved with a dragon. A smile played on her lips. Princess Eleanor could not forget the dragon. She had created a misunderstanding because of it. But now the symbol of House Beaumont was imprinted in her mind. She had observed the minute details of them.
Princess Eleanor did not know when but when she was reading the documents yesterday night she saw the brief image of the seal. The Grand Duke must be comparing the dragon as there was a dragon image beside him that showed the difference.
Princess Eleanor had seen both the images. One was the badge while the other was the seal. And she had seen both of them on Sir Kit when they were forced to stay in the cave.
Princess Eleanor’s breath hitched when she looked inside the room once the door was slightly opened. Once she had made sure that no one was there Princess Eleanor took a deep breath as she made her heart strong and entered the room.
There was no light inside. Only the moonlight was showing the outline of objects. Princess Eleanor took some time to adjust her eyesight and once she was confident enough she moved in the familiar direction.
Princess Eleanor had first thought to bring Nia with her but she soon dropped the idea. The Princess herself was a little afraid so she could not put her lady in waiting’s life in line.
Princess Eleanor smiled as she looked around. ’I should at least light a candle,’ Princess Eleanor thought. The only problem was that the Princess did not know where the candles were kept. ’Forget it, what if someone sees the light and comes inside,’
Princess Eleanor took a deep breath as she walked toward the bookshelves. She knew that she needed to read the book and the best way to do so is to take it away but Princess Eleanor did not know what would happen after that.
Although Sir Kit had said that the Grand Duke was not there, ’I cannot take the book from here. What if someone sees an empty spot and investigates?’ Princess Eleanor took a deep breath as she changed her direction. She no longer walked toward the bookshelves but she made her way towards the table. ’I will get a matchbox somewhere here.’
Princess Eleanor knew that she could hide under the table and read the book silently. As the windows of the study room are at a height, the light will not go out of the room and no one will suspect. It was a great plan as she nodded her head.
Princess Eleanor tried to touch everything to find if she could find the candle of a lighter. But before she could get hold of it, Princess Eleanor heard a voice from the outside. Her heartbeats started to beat faster as Princess Eleanor took a sharp breath. Her body left light as if she was looking in control.
Princess Eleanor’s eyes widened as she looked around in a hurry. She did not want to hurry and hide. Who could say that the person will enter the room? They could be maids or knights who were passing by.
Princess Eleanor’s heartbeats were in rhythm with the footsteps of the people. But soon the footsteps that seemed to be coming her way started to become lighter, Princess Eleanor released her breath that she did not know she was holding. The situation was getting dangerous and Princess Eleanor was well aware of it.
Princess Eleanor took a few deep breaths as she told herself, ’I am thinking too much. No one will enter the study. Sir Kit has already informed me that the Grand Duke is not here.’
As soon as Princess Eleanor wanted to relax her body and accept the fact that no one would enter the study room, she heard the room opening.
Princess Eleanor’s eyes widened but her body reacted before she could understand as she sat down and hid under the table. Princess Eleanor did not know who was there at this time but she knew that if the person came inside so openly then he would not be an ordinary person.
Soon the voice of footsteps walking towards her increased as Princess Eleanor wrapped her legs over her chest, trying hard to minimize her existence. Soon She could see the soft brightness as the candles were lit. Princess Eleanor was restless as she did not know what to do anymore. She had to wait.
Princess Eleanor could hear two sets of footsteps and soon she saw a pair of boots in front of her eyes.
Princess Eleanor covered her mouth with her hand. She was afraid that her breathing was too loud. Who was the man? Was he an intruder or one of the knights?
The man sat down on the chair. Princess Eleanor’s heart stopped for a brief second. She knew somewhere in her heart that the man was nothing ordinary but when she heard the words, she wanted to die somewhere because of her stupidity.
"Duke Christopher. Everything’s arranged," A sharp voice said.
Princess Eleanor knew then that her worst fear was about to come to reality. The man who she could not see the face of was the head of the house, the owner of the study room, and the master of the books she wanted to read.
"You may go out," A voice said.
Princess Eleanor’s face lifted and took at the man sitting on the chair. She could only see his legs but she felt a burst of familiarity. She thought she knew this voice but soon Princess Eleanor shook her head.
’No, this cannot be. The Grand Duke’s voice is much deeper and sharp.’ Princess Eleanor told herself. She knew that people say when someone stays with a person they admired, they tend to inculcate their habits and their tone of speaking in them. Princess Eleanor knew that the Grand Duke was the most influential and admired person. It was also said that the man had his knights following him since he was a child. It was only logical that the knights would have inculcated a few things.
’And their aura is different,’ Princess Eleanor told herself. She knew that maybe she was thinking too deeply but she also knew that the situation was not in her favor now. She should not be hiding here like a thief. She needed to find a way to walk out before getting noticed.
"Does the princess have a hobby of hiding under people’s tables?"
