The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 146
Doctor Raul looked at the glass vial in his hand. The small amount of perfume was boiling as violet fumes spread out.
Doctor Raul could smell something unpleasant as he closed the burner and placed a small lid on the glass vial. His gaze stayed on the transparent object as he saw the fumed getting trapped within the glass as they moved around. It took a long time before they mixed with the liquid which was now colorless and disappeared.
Doctor Raul took a deep breath as he took the pen that was placed on the table and wrote his observation on the paper. His hand was trembling as he felt a little distracted. He did not know what to think anymore but he knew that it had to be reported to the Grand Duke. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"You found something," A cold voice said as Doctor Raul’s body trembled. He looked back only to see the Grand Duk walking inside with a smirk on his face. He was covered in sweat as he still held the sword in his hand. "But your face says that it is not good news."
Doctor Raul nodded his head. He found something but it truly was not good news. He looked at Duke Christopher as he swallowed hard. He knew that the Grand Duke wanted results but he was far away from it. The amount of perfume he had left in his possession was very small and even though he had used a large amount of it already, there were no good results found.
Doctor Raul did not know how to explain it to Duke Christopher. He was afraid that the Duke would not take the news lightly and might even lose his temper.
"That... the perfume," Doctor Raul started to say but he could not find out the exact words to say.
"You did not find the exact poison," The Grand Duke said as he walked towards the chair before sitting down and looking at Doctor Raul with a narrowed gaze. "Don’t look at me like that. It is written all over your face."
Doctor Raul took a deep breath. He knew that Duke Christopher was not angry so his body relaxed a little. He walked towards the chair opposite the Grand Duke as he sat down showing his pages to the man with a worried tone, "There are some basic poisons in it, as I have reported prior but I still could not find out what the main poisonous ingredient is. Although it feels like the Princess was accidentally poisoned."
"And why do you think she was accidentally poisoned?" Duke Christopher’s voice turned sharp as he looked at Doctor Raul demanding an answer.
"Well, looking at the symptoms the poison must be injected in a small amount only once or twice. The amount is so small that it did not show any large symptoms just like any normal poison but because the poison was unknown the antidote cannot be made." Doctor Raul looked at the page on the table as he turned a few pages as he showed a diagram that he had created.
Doctor Raul moved his pen and he pointed out some places and explained, "Look at them, these are the substances that are mixed together. So I made the antidote specifically for this combination. And to be honest it was not easy to find out the combinations in themselves. It was a struggle as I had to use a large amount of the vial you gave me."
"But if that is the truth then it is not accidental poisoning." Duke Christopher said as he looked at Ditor Raul who looked at him with wide eyes, "The poison in princess’s blood and the perfume is the same isn’t it?"
Doctor Raul understood what Duke Christopher was getting at. It could be seen in his tone that the Duke thought he was not intelligent enough. Doctor Raul laughed as he looked at Duke Christopher, "Well there is a small catch,"
Duke Christopher was confused by his words as he raised his eyebrows. He looked at Doctor Raul with an annoyed face as his aura turned low, "care to explain,"
Doctor Raul could feel the chill but he ignored it as he said in a low tone. "Yes, of course, I was about to." Doctor Raul took a few pages as he started to explain it to Duke Christopher.
"Look here. This is the ingredient I could use in the Princess’s blood analysis," Doctor Raul wrote the ingredients in the circle as he wrote the other ingredients in the next circle, "And these are in the perfume. When you look at it is similar but in reality, there is much difference. The one in the blood has an mysterious ingredient X"
Doctor Raul wrote the letter in the circle as he continued, "But it is not there in the perfume. There’s also the concentration difference. If I had not concentrated the liquid in a large quantity I would have missed it altogether. It is present in such a small quantity that it could be neglected. To be honest I could only map the ingredients in the perfume with the blood with mere luck because the X ingredient masks the existence of other poisons."
"Is the amount of perfume present not poisonous?" Duke Christopher said as he looked at the page on the table where Doctor Raul was explaining.
"No, it is mere coincidence that they are there. Maybe the person preparing the perfume is not well aware of the flowers and plants to use and has accidentally created it, but the ingredient X is the main culprit here. An unknown poison without an antidote."
"But you said the Princess will be fine soon," Duke Christopher said.
"Yes, because the poison was used only once or twice the amount in the body is less. It is naturally washed off by the body. I still have the Princess antidote for the remaining ingredient ...."
"I understand." Duke Christopher got up as he looked at Doctor Raul and said before going, "I want you to investigate where this unknown poison came from."
Doctor Raul nodded his head but he would imagine the struggle he had to go through. The sample he had left was small and he could not just go and ask the Princess to give her blood.
