The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 124
Commander Colt looked at Princess Eleanor who was about to turn around.
"So let me tell you, your first job." Princess Eleanor smiled as she walked towards a chair. πππ¦β―πΈπ¦ππππ·β―π.πππ
"My first job?" Commander Colt asked as he raised his eyebrows. He could not understand why Princess Eleanor suggested that it was a job but he did not say anything about that. He knew that if Princess Eleanor wanted something she could achieve it. He had experienced it first hand a few minutes prior.
A smile formed on Princess Eleanorβs face as she blinked her eyes innocently as if whatever she said was the truth.
"As my escort." Princess Eleanor tapped her fingers on the chairβs ears as she looked at the man standing in front of her as if she could not believe the expression, "Or are you planning to go back on your words?"
"No." Commander Colt said in a hurry. He took a deep breath to control his burning desire as he nodded his head and stood straight as a knight who was ready to take any orders that their master would give.
"Commander Colt saw the two knights there right?" Princess Eleanorβs tone was soft as if she was afraid of someone listening to her.
Commander Colt nodded his head. "The one who is sent by the Angevin Kingdom along with the Princess."
"Yes," Princess Eleanorβs eyes dimmed as she smiled innocently, "The very same. I want you to follow them. I want to know everything there is to know about them. Who are they in contact with in the Angevin Kingdom? Are they trying to hurt me? And especially if they were involved in the attack."
Commander Colt was silent. He had estimated that Princess Eleanor would not be someone who would be easy to handle but he had never thought that she would be so difficult. Her mind was as sharp as a ruler which was rare to be seen in Princesses.
βIf I am right, then in the Angevin Kingdom the throne cannot be passed to the daughters. Even if the King had only one daughter, the Princessβs husband would be crowned as King or a relative can take up the throne.β Commander Colt thought. He did not know how to explain it but he thought that Princess Eleanor was not simple. She was tactful and manipulative just like any other King.
"Are you thinking why am I asking you to do it?" Princess Eleanorβs voice was soft but it held authority over others, "Or are you thinking she is behaving like a monarch? It should be one of the two."
Princess Eleanor observed the widened eyes of the man as she shook her head, "Do not overthink it. It is written all over your face."
Commander Colt could not believe Princess Eleanorβs words. He was a trained shadow knight and now he was the Commander of the Royal army. How could he not know to control his expression? The only one who can detect the slightest change on his face was his Lord. How could there be someone else? Unless they have learned it somewhere.
"How does the princess know it?" Commander Colt could not help but ask. His eyes shined as he bit his lips. He knew that he should not be asking such things of the Princess but he also knew that there was no other way around it. It was the only way possible.
Commander Coltβs curiosity was increasing. He now understood why his Lord had warned him to be alert. The Princess was tempting in a good way. She had a spark in her that pulled people towards her. βI should be careful around Princess Eleanor. I cannot do something that might harm my Lord.β
"How do I know?" Princess Eleanor giggled as she looked at Commander Colt who stood there without any expression. "I had lost my parents and my brother in an attack. It was hard for me to interact with people after that incident. Apart from a handful of people I could not trust anyone else. Do you know what they used to do? They would show sympathy to me on my face but laugh behind my back. It was hard to watch."
Princess Eleanorβs mind was a mess. She remembered how people would approach her, telling her to come to them if she needed any help but then as soon as they turned around their aura would change. Initially, it was frightening but slowly she got used to it.
"Let me tell you something important, Commander." Princess Eleanorβs eyes were focused on the man in front of her. "Every person can tell a lie. No matter if it was to harm someone or to keep someone safe. They can all lie but not everyone can hide it. Especially in their eyes."
"Everyoneβs body reacts differently, and their expressions change too." Princess Eleanor blinked, "And for you, Commander Colt, your eyes curl up when you think too deeply. The corner of your lips drops down when you lie as if you are nervous."
Commander Coltβs body froze. He could not understand how to react to the new known information. He had hardly met Princess Eleanor, He can still count it on his fingers the number of times he had met her, and yet she was able to deduce so much through it.
"Now you are nervous," Princess Eleanor giggled. "Your expressions are well controlled but the unconscious movement on your face cannot be controlled by you."
Commander Colt took a deep breath. For him, the Princess sitting in front of him was not a naive Princess who was innocent and did not understand the things that were happening around her. She was someone who was calculative enough to turn the situation to her advantage and that was frightening enough.
"Princess does know a lot." Commander Colt could not help but say.
"Yes, I do know a lot." Princess Eleanor tilted her head slightly, "So tell me if you will follow my orders or not?"
