The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 123
Princess Eleanor was waiting for Commander Colt to be comfortable around her. She wanted to know many things from him and this was the right time to do that.
"But I heard that you are extremely close to the Crown Prince." Princess Eleanor bit her lips as she looked down. "Will it trouble the Crown Prince to send the Commander of the Royal Knights here as an ..." Princess Eleanor shook her head as her tone turned heavy, "They should have sent someone else. You might be embarrassed to guard someone like me."
Commander Colt was silent as he looked at Princess Eleanor’s eyes. She was feeling low and Commander Colt could understand it. "No Princess. I as a knight am very honored to escort you."
Princess Eleanor smiled at the reply. Her eyes brightened up as if she had heard something nice. "Commander Colt knows how to make a Princess smile." Princess Eleanor’s eyes looked at the silent man. She could see the corner of his eyes curled up as a slight blush appeared on his face. "But I have never had a Commander as my escort. Can you guide me in understanding what all you could be helping me with?"
Commander Colt tilted his head a little but looking at Princess Eleanor’s naive gaze, he felt like what she was asking was logical.
Princesses had their own escort knights who would help them with anything and everything. From protecting them to following their order. It made sense that princess Eleanor was confused now because he was a Commander.
Commander Colt smiled as he closed his eyes for a brief second. He wanted to make sure to give Princess Eleanor a satisfactory answer. He did not know what was in Crown Prince Richard’s mind nor did he know what was in the Grand Duke’s mind. But he knew that the Princess sitting in front of him was important.
"The Princess can treat me as any other escort. I will obey all of the Princess’s orders." Commander Colt bowed his head in front of Princess Eleanor. His eyes blinked but soon they looked at the Princess when she asked.
"So Commander Colt is responsible for my safety. You will protect me no matter what?" Princess Eleanor’s voice was soft as she looked at Commander Colt with an eager gaze. She wanted to know how he would answer as if she was afraid that he would say no.
Commander Colt did not know what to expect. He bit his lips as he nodded his head. Soon he could see the smile on Princess Eleanor’s face.
"So then will Command Colt follow my orders till the time you are escorting me like any other knight?" Princess Eleanor tilted her head as she waited for the man to answer.
"Yes Princess,. As your escort, I must follow everything you say."
Commander Colt could visibly see the change in Princess Eleanor’s expression. She switched from an innocent Princess to a serious one within a fraction of seconds."Then the Commander should clear his stand. Till the time you are here as my escort, who will you be loyal to? Me or the Crown Prince?"
Commander Colt could feel a shiver run down his back. No matter how hard he tried he could not help but bite his lips. He knew that what he was hearing was an unusual question.
"The Princess can be the future Crown Princess. What difference.."
"There is a huge difference." Princess Eleanor’s words cut through commander Colt’s sentence. Her gaze turned sharp as she got up from the bed. Her eyes looked straight into Commander Colt. "If I become the future Crown princess or not is a matter of fate. But you are here for your job. Is Commander colt suggesting that his responsibility as a knight is subjected to fate as well?"
Commander Colt swallowed. He could not believe what he was hearing. He shook his head as he took a deep breath. He understood his Lord’s words now.
Commander Colt could see the slight curve on Princess Eleanor’s lips. The Princess was not someone naive who did not understand the world. She knew how things worked and she knew how to play them.
Commander Colt felt like this was a life lesson he had learned. As a knight, he had always thought that he knew better but he made a huge mistake today. He judged the book by the cover.
"As a knight, fate is something we have to create."
Princess Eleanor giggled, "Then as an escort knight will you be loyal to your master?"
Commander Colt had a bad feeling but he nodded his head. He could feel that the Princess purposefully used ’escort knight’ and ’master’ in the sentence. If he had said ’no’ then his credibility would be damaged. He had no other option.
"Good. As a Princess, even I know that I should not keep anyone around who would backstab me or give my information to others." Princess Eleanor looked straight at Commander Colt as she continued, "Now Commander should remember you are my escort. My words are your final order. Even when you are dismissed from this position you could not say anything that you have seen or heard here. Not only here but anything regarding at all. You will only report back what I tell you to do. Do you swear on your position? Do you swear on your honor?"
Princess Eleanor waited eagerly for Commander Colt to react. She knew that a man like him would not say a ’no’ when his honor was brought up. Princess Eleanor knew that she had used specific words to trigger his ego and as I knight Commander Colt was bound to take up the bait she had laid. Princess Eleanor was confident.
"I swear on my position. I swear on my honor. But Princess Eleanor had to promise that she would not do anything to harm my master. My Lord is the only bottom line I have." Command Colt’s words were straightforward and soon Princess Eleanor nodded. She knew it was the only way to control the man.
"So let me tell you, your first job." Princess Eleanor smiled as she walked towards a chair.
