The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 117
Nia walked towards Princess Eleanor’s door unaware that someone was watching her.
The eyes had not left her even once since she left the room. He had seen her walking near the small abandoned place and listening to knights, he had seen her talking with the cook.
As soon as Nia walked inside the door, the man smiled as he shook his head. He turned around as he walked towards the other side. He knew that no one had seen him. He was a shadow master, one who could be hidden in the darkest corner, and yet no one would be aware of his presence.
The man did not stay there for long. His steps increased as he entered the room through the window.
"Lord," He bowed respectfully as he saw the man sitting on the chair. His face was covered in the darkness as he looked in a daze.
"Something?" A sharp tone made him look up but he did not say anything.
"Commander Colt," The sharp voice asked again when he could not listen to any words coming out of the man’s mount.
Commander Colt was shocked as he nodded his head. "I was ordered to escort Princess Eleanor,"
"I am aware." The man moved his body forwards as his face came to light. "I was the one who commanded it,"
"But..." Commander Colt tried to say but his lips were zipped when he saw the darkened eyes of his master.
"Colt, are you questioning my command."
"No," Commander Colt shook his head as he swallowed hard. "How could I do that? I am loyal to you, but I am worried..."
"Are you worried that someone might catch onto us?" The man blinked. A burst of laughter felt in his mouth as he folded his hands. "How is that possible? I will give you everything you need to report back to the Crown Prince."
"But Grand Du.." Commander Colt was about to complete his words when he took a step back and looked down nervously. "I made a mistake. My Lord. Please punish me."
"Escort princess Eleanor to the best of your ability. Her own Kingdom wants her dead." Grand Duke Christopher said as his lips curled up, "She truths her escorts but I think she might not be able to trust you."
Commander Colt nodded his head, "The Princess’s lady in waiting had gathered the information. The Princess will never trust me. And I think we should just.."
"Did I ask you, Colt?" Duke Christopher said as his lips curled up. "She will be staying in the Beaumont mansions and you have to make sure she trusts you." The Grand Duke’s eyes narrowed as he said, "My only fear is that you might start trusting her a lot and forget your master."
"No." Commander Colt’s voice was filled with confidence. "No matter what happens I will never forget my real master. I am a shadow on a mission."
The Grand Duke nodded his head, "We will see who wins. The Princess’s determination or yours."
–
"Princess," Nia called for the Princess for the third time, and yet she did not react. Nia was frightened as she extended her hand to touch her arms slightly and the cold feeling brought Princess Eleanor back to reality.
"Nia." Princess Eleanor said as she smiled, "You got the information?"
Nia could feel that Princess Eleanor’s mind was somewhere else. Her tone was soft as always but there was a distance in them as if she was trying to keep her calm. Nia nodded her head as she saw Princess Eleanor looking at her, ready to listen.
"The man who will be escorting you will be Commander Colt. he is said to be someone extremely loyal to the Crown Prince. Commander Colt and the Grand Duke do not get along too well and people do speculate if Grand Duke is stronger than the Commander."
"They never had a competition?" Princess Eleanor asked as she blinked her eyes. "That’s unusual,"
"No, maybe because the Royal Family did not want them to. What if Commander Colt is stronger than the Grand Duke."
"That feels unlikely, Princess Eleanor bit her lips before she shook her head softly, "anyway, Nia you have done a good job. I am so proud that you are my Lady in waiting."
Nia smiled as her face was burning up. Princess Eleanor could not help but tease her more, "Oh, and there is a letter for you," Princess Eleanor pointed at the corner as there was a letter placed on the table, "Sir Kit delivered it for you."
Nia smiled as she ran towards the letter. "When did he come?"
Princess Eleanor thought back to when she had asked the man the question, but all Sir Kit did was take a step back and look at her.
"Princess, I came here to deliver something," Sir Kit said as he took a letter out from his coat and placed it in front of her.
"I thought you were here because of me." Princess Eleanor took the letter as she stared at Sir Kit who nodded his head.
"Yes, I am here because of the Princess. I could have delivered the letter to your lady in waiting when you reach Beaumont mansion but I still came because I wanted to see you." Sir Kit took a step forward as he touched Princess Eleanor’s face. "You will have a new escort soon. I might not be there when you leave the temple but I will join in soon."
Princess Eleanor could feel Sir Kit’s touch but soon it was gone. The feeling of comfort that she had felt just a few minutes ago was gone. She saw the man walking towards the window as he disappeared in the air.
"Princess?" Nia’s voice brought Princess Eleanor back to reality. She doesn’t know how to explain this to Nia. She herself felt like she needed to calm down and think about it.
Princess Eleanor knew that her emotions were starting to take over. "He was here just a few minutes ago."
