The appearance of Evelyn at their door made Abrielle wary, even before she spoke. Her stomach churned, thinking of what Cedric was implying.

Abrielle could not imagine that possibility. It was impossible if Abrielle was not a Nightshade, then she would shatter everything she believed in.

"Running now is risky. We are safer here." Abrielle said. Cedric’s gaze hardened, and then he glanced at Evelyn. "Arrange the bag and make sure you get everything." He instructed Evelyn then stepped away from the door while Evelyn ran inside to carry out the instructions given to her.

Abrielle ran in front of Cedric spreading her hands to block his way. "Where are you going? Please explain what is happening."

She knew Cedric could easily brush her off or even teleport out of here. She felt there was something he wasn’t telling her.

"I want to take a look at the gate to confirm my suspicions. I will be very quick, you will barely know I am gone." He explained, her brows furrowed.

"What are you not telling me? What do you want to confirm? " The gaze in her eyes told him she was not going to back down. He loved it when she was feisty but it could be a pinch at times.

"I didn’t want to explicitly say it until I was sure. If Callista is at the gate it confirms everything." He admitted puzzling her more. Cedric was speaking in puzzles.

Hearing Callista’s name gave her an impending sense of doom. "What does Callista have to do with this?" Cedric took a step forward then held her hand like he was about to tell her something that would ruin her.

"You know what I said about the person I suspect with holy magic being behind Kaiden’s death." He brought it up, and Abrielle’s mind went back to the scene Callista was not in. "Callista wasn’t there."

"That’s what I thought but after putting everything together. One of the girls there had the same aura as Callista. It’s hard to explain, but I am certain Callista is your parents’ daughter. If she is at the gate it proves my theory."

Abrielle stepped back, her face going pale. "It makes no sense. How is that possible?"

Cedric’s suspicion started a long time ago, but he never thought it would be linked to the same thing. The first incident was Sarah’s mysterious disappearance after the failed assassination of Abrielle during their honeymoon.

It didn’t make sense, and the case was pointless, that was until the day he met Callista Starlight. She seemed like the perfect priestess. There was almost nothing wrong with that perfect smile, but there was something Cedric was good at. His gut could read people.
