Chapter 73: The Caring Nicholas

Rosa caught the young woman quickly before she could fall to the ground, alarmed. At this time, she didn’t know about Abigail’s fear of blood and thought that her daughter-in-law had fallen sick or something again.

"Abigail! Wake up!"

The young woman continued to lean toward her, completely unconscious. The more she didn’t move, the more Rosa became anxious. She held her daughter-in-law’s shoulder and shook the woman fiercely.

"Wake up!"

At the same time, Nicholas had just gotten out of his room after a quick shower to have some late-night snack, only to find Abigail unconscious and his mother trying her best to wake her up.

He frowned and looked at the ground, realizing something.

The fear of blood.

His heart sank as he hurried over. Before Rosa could pull out her phone to call the doctor, Nicholas snatched the phone away and placed it on the table beside him. Then he picked his wife in his arms, heading toward his own bedroom.

"Wait!" Rosa got angry in an instant. "Why are you taking her away?! We should take her to the hospital! She needs medical attention!"

"No need." As he continued forward, Nicholas didn’t want to explain and focus on the young woman in his arms.

But how could his mother let him go so easily? After all, his stubbornness came from her in the first place.

She instantly grabbed his hand and scolded him, "She’s your wife! Don’t you care about her for the sake of humanity even a little bit?"

"Mom, let me go." Nicholas felt extremely irritated and instantly wanted to send his mother away. "I know what I’m doing."

"The heck you know!" Rosa wasn’t going to let this go. She was already angry at her own son because of how he was treating her daughter-in-law. And now, he has crossed his limits.

The young woman couldn’t even get proper treatment?!

"You’re not going anywhere!"

Now, Nicholas was completely frustrated. He swatted away his mother’s hand and walked toward his room before the older woman could stop him, closing the door behind him with a thud.

He had always been the same. He never wanted to scream out to the world and tell them of the things he did. It was his privacy, and he believed perhaps Abigail was the same. Otherwise, how could she keep the information that she was afraid of blood hidden from others? She could have told her mother-in-law, at least seeing how close they were.

Since it was a matter of her privacy, he shouldn’t be a middleman and let it out.

After he tucked her into the bed, covering the young woman with a blanket. He hesitated before finally sitting at his table and turning on the laptop.

His late-night snacks had to be postponed. He really didn’t want to face his mother right now, who was obviously blaming him.

Sigh.

No wonder he had always hated relationships. They were so difficult to handle. If only his mom could understand him more, he wouldn’t have kept her at a distance since he grew up and gained a foothold in the business world.

He silently glanced at Abigail and frowned.

Only this young woman managed to do something no one had ever done before, making him lower his guard in front of a woman. In his heart, he wasn’t concerned whether or not Abigail would ever go against him despite her mood swings.

He also had a reason to believe this, honestly. Since Abigail had managed to stay beside him despite how coldly he treated her, he knew this woman understood his heart completely without even having to tell her.

Wasn’t that what he had ever wanted in his future life partner?

So, it could be that Abigail was a perfect candidate for becoming his official wife. Of course, it wasn’t that he had fallen in love or something. At this point, he merely considered her a good candidate despite how much their natures differed.

He didn’t need to fall in love with her or something. He didn’t need love to survive, and he understood that since childhood.

His father died when he was young, and his mom was always busy with business. Although she was good to him, she didn’t get to spend much time with him, turning him cold. Of course, it had been the same even when his father was around.

Both of his parents would always work during his childhood days. It was only when Chris was born that Rosa stayed at home for a year, and their relationship strengthened a little.

But then, things took a drastic turn when she healed from her birth and again started traveling around for business. She had become even busier this time since his father died after Chris was born.

Thus, Nicholas ended up becoming colder and colder as he grew up. Of course, there were servants around, especially John, his butler, who had cared for him since childhood.

But the old man would always be obedient to him, treating him like a master rather than a child. So you can already imagine the condition in which Nicholas grew up.

As for his younger brother...

Rosa would always take her younger son to travel along with her. So she indeed cared for Chris more than him, but Nicholas wasn’t worried about it, nor was he envious of his younger brother.

It was better to let him live his life how he wanted.

It was only when he took over the business that Rosa’s steps paused, and she finally got to spend quality time with her sons. But it was already too late.

Nicholas grew up in a loveless environment, not wanting to feel even a trace of that.

He glanced at her feet ticking outside the blanket, covered with blood, as he frowned deeper. He sighed and got up, finding the first-aid kit from his wardrobe. Then he started fixing her injuries slowly and gently, putting all of his attention on her feet.

When he was done, he went back to his work.

As he was typing on his laptop, Abigail’s eyelids fluttered as she frowned. Her lips parted, making her feel thirsty.

She finally opened her eyes and looked around. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Huh... This room...

Why did it feel familiar?

As soon as her brain started working, she instantly realized this was her husband, Nicholas’s room!

Her eyes widened as she got up from the bed.
