Chapter 307: Chapter 307: Foot Washing

"Seth Sawyer?"

Ethan Shaw nodded and offered her the grapes again. "So, can you eat them now?"

Naomi Kenway obediently opened her mouth, making sure to explain, "I wasn’t going to, but on second thought, a grape might be nice to soothe my throat. The food earlier was a little salty."

The smile in Ethan Shaw’s eyes deepened. He felt a surge of delight but didn’t plan on calling her out. "I’ll get you a glass of water."

Naomi Kenway took the cup and sipped the water. The temperature was perfect.

The production team hadn’t assigned any other tasks, so Naomi Kenway and Ethan Shaw sat in the room watching television.

A moment later, the PATTER PATTER PATTER of footsteps approached, and Ian pushed the door open. His little face was flushed, his excitement from earlier clearly not having faded, and his forehead was beaded with sweat.

Naomi Kenway quickly went over, took out a handkerchief, and wiped his sweat. "Were you just playing with Sean and the others?"

Ian’s big eyes sparkled as he nodded. "We built a castle downstairs!"

Naomi Kenway thought for a moment. ’There was a pile of dirt in the yard on the first floor.’

"That sounds great. What else did you play besides building the castle?"

Ian recalled seriously, "We also played hide-and-seek. The person who gets caught has to do a forfeit. I was ’it’ just now, and I found everyone, but Jared Woods won’t admit it!"

Ian’s little face was sullen, his cheeks puffed out in a pout.

Naomi Kenway comforted him for a moment and patted his head.

A knock came from the door, followed by Carina Sanders’s bright voice. "Ian, are you done with your water yet? Hurry and come out to play!"

"Coming!" Ian replied. He took a sip of water and ran out, not forgetting to say goodbye to his mom and dad before he left.

Ethan Shaw watched the small, cherubic figure disappear from sight, his expression uncharacteristically dazed.

"What are you looking at?" Naomi Kenway asked, noticing his gaze.

"I think... I need to thank you. You’ve taken such good care of Ian."

Naomi Kenway paused. "Why bring this up all of a sudden?"

Ethan Shaw’s mind filled with the image of Ian, hopping about with boundless joy and energy. The boy’s large eyes, bright as black grapes, sparkled. Though his features resembled Ethan’s own as a child, his spirit was entirely different. In that moment, he felt as if he were seeing another version of himself—one who was free, brave, and full of life.

A faint smile touched Ethan Shaw’s lips, and he didn’t dwell on the topic. "The grapes are all gone," he said. "Should I wash another bunch?"

After a brief pause, Naomi Kenway nodded.

For dinner, Naomi Kenway prepared four dishes and four soups, an even more lavish meal than lunch. She had used up all the remaining ingredients to create an array of fragrant, delicious dishes. With his practice from earlier, Ethan Shaw was no longer flustered and clumsy when he helped out. He was clearly much more skilled. The last dish, stir-fried cucumber and egg, was his own handiwork. Although it looked as unappetizing as ever, it tasted much better—at least it was no longer inedible.

The family finished their meal, and Ethan Shaw cleaned up the dishes as usual, with Ian helping out a great deal.

Naomi Kenway massaged her calves, and the soreness eased considerably. ’I really am out of shape,’ she thought to herself.

Ian yawned and said he was sleepy but didn’t want to go to bed just yet, so Naomi Kenway held him and told him a story for a while.

A short while later, the door opened and Ethan Shaw walked in. He was carrying a basin, which he placed on the floor.

"Are your legs feeling any better? It’s not convenient to take a proper bath here, but soaking your feet might help a lot."

As he spoke, he deftly removed Naomi Kenway’s shoes. Mindful of her sore calves, his movements were extremely gentle. He carefully placed her fair, delicate feet into the basin, then looked up and asked, "I tested the temperature. How does it feel? Is it okay?"
