Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Changing Clothes

Qin Yu was carrying some clothes into the house when he saw quite the scene: a palm-sized little girl wrapped up like a zongzi, trembling slightly as she stood on the edge of the bed, contemplating a jump down.

Hearing the door open, the little girl got such a fright that she nearly missed her step, but fortunately, her hands grabbed the bedsheet in time.

Qin Yu frowned and walked over to pick her up and place her on the bed, “What are you wriggling about for?”

Ah Da’s eyes were instead captivated by the clothes in his hand, and her round eyes suddenly lit up, “Are those for me?”

Qin Yu placed a mini wardrobe next to her, unzipped it, and revealed its contents: the transparent sides enclosed a row of orderly hanging dresses in the middle and a bottom layer with shoes and various little hats and backpacks.

“Considering your situation will continue for seven days, I had someone bring over some smaller clothes I’d bought previously. Change out of those torn clothes now, and later we’ll go down to eat something.”

...

No sooner had Qin Yu finished speaking than he caught the gleam of anticipation and excitement in the little girl’s wide eyes. In a flash, it felt like a little deer had bumped into his heart.

“What, don’t you like them?”

Hearing his deep voice, Ah Da pursed her lips, her cheeks tinged pink, and while avoiding his gaze, she nodded with an awkward tone, “I like them.”

Qin Yu reached out to tap her head and told her, “Then hurry up and change clothes. You can’t let others see you in this state right now. Mrs. Song will only be able to come over after seven days.”

“Really?” Ah Da exclaimed with joy.

“Mhm,” Qin Yu nodded.

A smile blossomed across Ah Da’s little face like a flower opening in spring, her tone filled with excitement: “That’s great, I’ll go change my clothes right now.”

As Qin Yu watched the little girl’s cheerful steps as she ran over to pick out her clothes, he retracted his gaze and stood up to walk out the door.

Hearing the door close with a “click,” the smile on Ah Da’s face faded somewhat, her expression turning listless. She hadn’t expected Qin Yu to be so thorough in his arrangements, going so far as to have Mrs. Song come over tomorrow.

She had been criticizing him in her heart, calling him unkind, which was really unjust of her. No wonder he was upset.

Maybe, she should apologize to him later?

Carrying a sense of guilt towards Qin Yu, Ah Da took off the tattered cloth on her body, put on a white short-sleeved shirt, then took a pair of suspender shorts off the hanger and put them on, finishing with a pair of little shoes. Fully dressed, she crouched down to neatly fold the scraps of cloth on the bed and held them in her arms.

She wanted to throw away the torn clothes.

After changing, she felt much braver, grasping the bedsheet with a fluid motion, she slid down to the clean and shiny marble floor, which reflected her facial expressions brightly.

Ah Da wandered around the room, her little legs almost giving out from not finding a dustbin, and it was only with the last of her Spiritual Power that she finally found a large rectangular bin in a corner of the room, with a glowing blue button in the middle.

This dustbin looked completely different from any she’d seen before, and Ah Da blinked, finding it magical.

If it weren’t for the limited Spiritual Power left in her body, she would have flown up to see what it looked like from above.

After shrinking, her intelligence seemed to have shrunk as well, and all the objects around her appeared to be huge beasts. As Ah Da looked up, pondering what to do, she heard the sound of the door opening behind her.

When Qin Yu entered, he scanned the room quickly, not finding Ah Da, his normally impassive eyebrows involuntarily furrowing with concern. Pivoting on his heel, he circled the bed towards the small living room and finally saw the little girl by the automated trash bin, holding a piece of cloth in her hands.

The cloth was almost as large as her body, and he wondered how her tiny hands managed to hold it.

She had changed into her new clothes: a white, short-sleeved top paired with blue suspenders stitched with an image of a fuzzy panda clutching and munching on bamboo, its eyes comically blank—so similar to her own.

She looked both adorable and well-behaved.

“What are you doing here?” Qin Yu asked.

The little girl’s body trembled visibly, and then she clutched the tattered cloth in her embrace, timidly lifting her head to look at him. Her eyes were clear and transparent, as she stood so tiny on the glossy marble floor, she truly resembled an exquisite doll in a display window.

Qin Yu crouched down and reached out his hand to her, “Come here.” His tone was much gentler than before, carrying an indescribable allure.

Looking at the wide and fair palm in front of her, with each finger long and well-crafted, it looked like a divine piece of art.

Ah Da carefully stepped forward with her short legs to climb onto it. As soon as she settled down, the broken cloth was pulled from her grasp. The lid of the trash can, previously shut, opened automatically, and the cloth was precisely thrown into it.

A faint voice came from above her head with a pace that was neither hurried nor slow, the voice cool and clear, “It’s temperature-controlled, it will open automatically when it senses someone approaching, but you’re too small now, so the machine can’t detect your body heat.”

Was he…comforting her because she couldn’t reach the trash can?

“Actually… it’s because my Spiritual Power is weak.”

Ah Da said softly, inexplicably feeling a bit down. She was so weak that she couldn’t even throw out trash and her mental state was poor, often sleeping for half the day.

In the palm of his hand, the light in the little girl’s eyes dimmed. Qin Yu reached out his finger to touch her hair, “It will get better with time.”

The comfort from Qin Yu was effective, and Ah Da only felt down for a short while before cheering up. She turned to wrap her arms around Qin Yu’s thumb, rubbing her cheek against it, her voice soft and endearing.

“Qin Yu, I shouldn’t have gotten angry with you earlier, I’m sorry.”

His heart was touched by her sudden affectionate gesture, and Qin Yu’s voice softened slightly,

“So, were you really cursing me in your heart?”

Ah Da shook her head hurriedly, “No, I didn’t curse.”

“If you didn’t curse, why do you seem guilty?” Qin Yu pinched her tiny face gently and lifted it, making her blush that spread to her ears and neck clearly visible.

Her skin was too pale to hide any of it.

Ah Da pushed against his fingers, her mouth barely opening, she spoke unclearly, “Truly… I didn’t… didn’t curse you.”

Of course, Qin Yu didn’t mind whether she had cursed him or not; with her way of thinking and personality, even cursing would lack any hurtful power.

She probably didn’t even know how to curse properly.

He moved as he pleased, kneading her cheeks and hair, which felt tender and smooth. Under Qin Yu’s rough handling, the little girl’s fluffy and soft long hair became a complete mess.

Perhaps because she thought she was “apologizing,” she didn’t struggle but allowed herself to be manipulated with an obedience that was so earnest it was almost pitiable.

As a final touch, Qin Yu tapped her chin and gently placed her on the bed before rising and walking into the washroom. When he returned, he held a white comb in his hand with closely spaced teeth.

“Are you going to comb my hair for me?” Ah Da’s cherry lips parted slightly in surprise.

The hand holding the comb paused briefly, Qin Yu looked down at it, his eyebrows furrowing. Initially, he had wanted Ah Da to comb her own hair, but it suddenly occurred to him that with her reduced size, the comb was even taller than she was; she definitely couldn’t comb her hair by herself, and it wasn’t an option to call the servants.

Without lingering on the decision, Qin Yu leaned in to sit beside Ah Da, saying to her, “Turn around.”

Qin Yu was really going to comb her hair; but could he even do it? Ah Da’s heart was filled with apprehension.

Seeing that the little girl was hesitant to move, Qin Yu extended a finger to gently push her shoulder, his gaze deep and intense, “Do you want to go downstairs with messy hair?”

Ah Da quickly turned, presenting the back of her round head to him, internally grumbling about his stern tone. It was he who had messed up her hair, so he should comb it for her.
