Chapter 68: Chapter 68: The First Day in the New Home

The over-lake bridge led directly to the island, where the lake water was clear and bright. Shimmering under the sunlight, it reflected the azure blue of the sky. Qin Yu arrived at the Wuqiong Water Pavilion an hour later.

Although no one lived in the Wuqiong Water Pavilion, every day, hundreds of servants were responsible for cleaning and maintenance. As the car drove in, the servants tending to the greenery immediately paused their work and lined up on both sides of the front gate.

The butler in charge of the Wuqiong Water Pavilion welcomed them with a standard smile. Long Qi got out of the car with a cold face and waved his hand dismissively, “Disperse, go back to whatever you were doing.”

The butler, understanding the situation, quickly led the servants away. Situations like this indicated the master of the house did not wish to have his privacy invaded.

Qin Yu got out of the car and strode into the house with Ah Da. The Wuqiong Water Pavilion boasted complete facilities, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a movie theater, a golf course, a fishing deck, and other recreational areas, with the master bedroom situated in the sunniest spot offering the best view.

Arriving at the third-floor bedroom, Qin Yu reached into his pocket intending to take Ah Da out, only to find that the little girl had awoken halfway there, opening a sliver of her eyes to lazily look up at him.

...

Qin Yu paused, momentarily forgetting how to react.

Ah Da had dreamed of a demon with eight arms squeezing her waist, and waking up in a panic mid-dream, she saw the outline of a person through her bleary eyes. She whimpered softly, rubbed her eyes with her hand, and when she opened her eyes again, she finally saw his face clearly.

“Qin Yu?”

“Did I fall asleep again?”

Ah Da sat up, soft and wobbly in the palm of his hand. Her little body swayed twice, and she only stabilized herself by grasping his thumb with her two small hands.

“Yes,” Qin Yu took a few steps and placed her on the bed, “You fell asleep on the way down the mountain.”

She hadn’t woken up the entire journey; could she really sleep that much?

Ah Da felt a bit embarrassed, clutching the cloth wrapped around her. She lowered her little head and suddenly noticed the gorgeous velvet beige blanket that caught her eye, her eyes fringed by long lashes snapping wide.

She instantly looked around, taking in the expansive luxury of the solid wood furniture, the exquisite carvings on the walls, and the huge chandelier overhead. This was not the familiar bedroom where she had previously lived.

“What… what place is this?”

Ah Da asked in a daze.

“You’ll be living here from now on.” Qin Yu took off his coat and tossed it onto the bed, beginning to undo the buttons on his cuffs with one hand.

“Living here?” Ah Da turned her head, gazing confusedly at the tall man standing at the foot of the bed, “Why? What about the previous house? And Mrs. Song?”

Qin Yu briefly paused mid-sleeve roll and turned to look at her. His handsome face appeared even colder under the white light. “She’s only been at the villa for a few days and you’re already so concerned about her?”

Was it that whoever appeared by her side would capture her concern?

The man stood with his side to her, broad-shouldered and long-legged, his back wide. He wore a black shirt, with the top two buttons undone at the neck, revealing a patch of his pale skin and the sexy outline of his collarbone.

His handsome face was indifferent, his voice low and commanding. Ah Da didn’t understand why he was angry again; he seemed to get upset without reason, and when he got upset, he was fierce.

“Can’t I even ask?” Ah Da said with a hint of grievance, fiddling with her fingers, “She helped me braid my hair this morning. I want her to braid my hair in the future, too.”

Qin Yu was at a loss for words, not knowing what to say; she was bought over by just a braiding, she really was something.

Seeing he was silent, Ah Da turned away after a rigid moment, counting Qin Yu’s faults in her mind and silently reminding herself of the saying, “Beggars can’t be choosers.”

Qin Yu looked at her small, round head and knew without listening that behind her silence, she was probably grumbling about something. He stepped forward, knelt by the bed, and said, “Just because she braids your hair once, you remember her. I’ve helped you so many times, but you’ve never remembered the good I’ve done.”

He gently tapped her forehead with his curved finger and Qin Yu spoke lowly, “Ungrateful.”

Ah Da’s eyes widened in panic, the dark and round orbs whirling in alarm as if her innermost thoughts had been exposed.

“No, I was also thinking of you,” Ah Da wrapped his fingers in an affectionate embrace, earnestly listing all the kindness he had shown her, “You released me from the incense burner, bought me clothes, provided me with fragrant scents, and even Master Ting Chan agreed to help me because of you. I’ve always remembered your kindness.”

“Qin Yu, I even said I would protect you today, have you forgotten?”

The young girl’s voice was soft and delicate, her fair and exquisite face faintly blushing under the light, with eyelashes as long as small brushes. Each feature was perfectly beautiful, her clear and bright eyes filled with urgency.

As if she feared he wouldn’t believe her.

Qin Yu slowly curved his lips, his normally aloof brows thawing like early snow, he said nonchalantly, “That did happen.”

“It’s true, I always keep my word,” Ah Da placed her hands on top of his, nearly thumping her chest in a promise, “Until you catch the person behind the Gu Worm, I will definitely protect you.”

Qin Yu gazed at the small figure on the bed, pressing in further, “And after catching the person, you’ll stop protecting me?”

Ah Da hesitated before asserting, “I’ll still protect you, as long as I’m by your side.”

Perhaps once the culprit was caught, she would no longer be by his side. She couldn’t follow him around forever; she wanted to enter society like Su Qingtong and lead a normal life as a person.

Ah Da kept these thoughts to herself.

Qin Yu was momentarily stunned by her words. He had brushed off her previous promises to protect him with a laugh, but this time he did not smile, instead just quietly observing her, his eyes as dark as the night yet speckled with light.

Suddenly, Ah Da felt something was off in the atmosphere. Meeting Qin Yu’s gaze, her own heart began to pound—had her words failed to reassure him?

What she said was the truth; if he was still angry, there was really nothing more she could do.

Qin Yu must be the hardest person in the world to please, she thought.

Just as her head drooped, a finger gently lifted her chin. A spark ignited in Ah Da’s mind, and her round eyes instantly brightened as she looked up at him.

“I’ll remember what you just said,” Qin Yu spoke, then got up and walked out the door.

The bedroom fell silent, and Ah Da sat on the bed alone, staring at the closed door, her mind a fog. So, had she successfully ‘smoothed things over’?

Probably?

But why did he leave…

His expression didn’t seem happy either.

Forget it, she thought. Let it be.

Qin Yu’s moods were indeed enigmatic. Ah Da sighed, leaned back, and lay sprawled on the bed, suddenly captivated by the enormous, ornate crystal chandelier on the ceiling. The white, rod-like crystals hung like tassels, cascading down, stunning and radiant.

So beautiful, so grand!

Ah Da couldn’t take her eyes off the chandelier, her gaze filled with fascination. She really adored shiny things.

After staring for a while, Ah Da decided to sit up and take a closer look around her new home. Just as she prepared to get out of bed, she encountered a colossal problem for her diminutive size—the distance from the bed to the floor was absurdly high, and most importantly, she had no clothes!

Wrapped only in tattered cloth, Ah Da lightly knocked her forehead with frustration, annoyed that she had been preoccupied with making Qin Yu “happy” and had completely forgotten that she was stark naked without clothes.

They had moved to a new home; what was she to do about her original clothes?
