The Tycoon's Enchanted Mermaid-Chapter 59 - : Demon Spirit Concentration Management Bureau
Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Demon Spirit Concentration Management Bureau
Registration completed, beyond lay a flight of bluestone steps leading to a flat expanse surrounded on three sides by pavilions constructed from century-old redwood. The roofs were gilded with dragons and decorated with phoenixes in colored glaze—an imposing sight. Green trees encircled the area, adding to the spring-like beauty.
This place offered a remarkable environment with an expansive view, allowing one to see the entire Capital City in its entirety from the doorway.
At the entrance, a massive stone tablet lay horizontally cut, inscribed with “Abnormal Person Concentration Management Registration Office.”
Ah Da muttered these words under her breath, perplexed inwardly, “Abnormal People? Is that another name for spirits?”
It was her first time hearing about such a place.
Ah Da had always thought that she and Bronze Sword were rare anomalies because, for all these years, ninety percent of what she encountered were entities like Little Pink Bottle and Jade Pot—beings who were born with a Spiritual Sense but could not transform into humans nor establish ties with society.
...
Observing this management registration office, it seemed that there were many walking spirits and demons around.
Su Qingtong crossed the last step and exhaled with hands on her hips, “Finally here, these old geezers must be out of their minds to set up the workplace up a mountain.”
Driven by curiosity, Ah Da leaned forward and asked, “Bronze Sword sister, do you come here often?”
Su Qingtong sneered, pointing at the tablet, “How could I? Why would I come to this dreadful place? Little incense burner, let me tell you, the people here are incredibly old-fashioned, especially that Yao Qingzhi—dull as a rock that cannot understand human speech.”
“Are you sure you are speaking human speech, or are you even human?”
A male voice carried from within the courtyard. Ah Da looked over to see a man in a loose indigo robe with matching wide-legged pants, his hair pulled back into a low ponytail. His features were sharply defined, his brows ink-drawn, exuding a natural sharpness and upright aura.
Ah Da’s eyes widened slightly; she thought the man standing under the building carried an air almost celestial, ethereal and unearthly.
Su Qingtong ground her teeth, almost wishing she could roll up her sleeves and have an all-out brawl, “Yao Qingzhi, you say I am not human? So what if I am not human? Can’t you live a day without undermining me?”
Yao Qingzhi paid her no heed, his gaze shifting to the young girl beside her, sizing her up and asked, “Is this the one you mentioned that is neither human, spirit, nor demon?”
“Yes, her name is Ah Da, and she shares my surname,” mentioning Ah Da, Su Qingtong’s noisy demeanor sobered up, she seriously added, “Her situation is quite special; I came here hoping your elder can take a look at her.”
Yao Qingzhi gave Ah Da a deep look and turned to say, “Let’s discuss inside first.”
“Pfft, always acting so profound,” Su Qingtong scoffed at Yao Qingzhi’s retreating figure, pulling Ah Da along to follow him inside while not forgetting to give Ah Da a rundown.
She explained that the place was previously known as the Demon Spirit Concentration Management Bureau, casually referred to as the Demon Control Bureau. It got exposed to the public when a tourist unknowingly shared photos of Lingcheng Mountain online during its commercial development. The widespread discussion it sparked caused a significant uproar in public opinion.
Considering the secretive nature of their work, it necessitated a removal from public visibility, hence the name was changed to Abnormal Person Concentration Management Registration Office, and a relatively stringent set of regulations was established.
“Anyway, the rules here are as incomprehensible as the Heavenly Book. This is forbidden, that’s not allowed; filled with so many stipulations you can’t even finish reading them. Yao Qingzhi that jerk has them all memorized down to the letter—his brain must be mutated.”
Ah Da stared at the side of Su Qingtong’s face, sensing something amiss from her words; it was clear she had just lied.
She seemed so familiar with this place, knew so much about it, and appeared well-acquainted with the man from earlier.
This suggested her involvement with Lingcheng Mountain was far from simple.
But since she seemed reticent to disclose more, Ah Da chose not to inquire further.
Entering a simple room, its setup was clean and elegant, with walls adorned with calligraphy scrolls exuding an ancient simplicity. On the right, a small hall for serving tea featured wide windows half-open letting in a fresh breeze.
Yao Qingzhi walked around to the back of the desk and sat down, waiting for Ah Da and Su Qingtong to approach before extending her hand to motion them to sit, “My master is currently attending to an important guest and won’t be back for a while, so according to the rules, I will register your identities and origins first.”
Ah Da had no objections and readily agreed, while Su Qingtong muttered, “I said it, this place has too many rules.”
Ah Da took a seat, placing her hands on her knees, watching as Yao Qingzhi pulled a round sandalwood box from a drawer. It was carved with cloud patterns and looked like an antique.
When the box opened, Ah Da caught a hint of a subtle lotus fragrance, calming to the mind. Inside was a piece of bright red seal paste and a White Jade Seal.
Yao Qingzhi looked up, “Please extend your right hand.”
As instructed, Ah Da laid her right hand flat on the table, her skin immaculate. Yao Qingzhi dabbed the seal into the seal paste several times, then lifted it and slowly pressed it onto the wrist joint of Ah Da.
“Umm~”
A heat spread from her wrist, and Ah Da frowned; seeing that the person across from her had no intention of releasing her, she had no choice but to bite her lip and endure. Yet, the seal grew hotter, searing like fire, as if it was going to burn the flesh off that spot.
It hurt! Ah Da thought to herself.
Yao Qingzhi observed her reaction intently, her eyebrows slightly furrowed and her gaze deep, as if probing something.
Su Qingtong, looking anxious, slapped the table, “Stop dawdling, try to take your personal revenge and see what happens.”
Yao Qingzhi glanced at her and, without a word, withdrew the seal and put it back in the box.
After the burning sensation, a red dragon appeared on Ah Da’s wrist, wriggling its tail and spiraling around before sinking into her body and disappearing.
“This is…”
Ah Da touched her wrist, stunned. It was flawless as if everything that had happened was just an illusion.
Yao Qingzhi closed the lid of the box containing the White Jade Seal and Longquan seal paste, explaining, “For easier management and punishment, all demons and spirits recorded here must unconditionally accept surveillance from the Registration Office. What I just placed on you is a tracking constraint. If you behave and don’t cause trouble, this constraint won’t affect you.”
Ah Da realized, “So that’s what it is.” No wonder it felt as if she was burning.
He said all recorded demons must have a constraint, so…
Ah Da’s gaze shifted to Su Qingtong standing by, landing on her wrist. Could the Bronze Sword also be under this constraint?
Yao Qingzhi continued, “The tracking constraint from Lingcheng Mountain has been improved several times by my master. Normally, you shouldn’t feel anything, but you were obviously uncomfortable just now, which may be related to your special circumstances. Exactly what it is, we’re not sure yet…”
Yao Qingzhi suddenly paused, his expression becoming calm yet intense. Ah Da couldn’t help feeling a bit of fear because she saw danger in his eyes.
A signal of danger released by a hunter before the capture.
Su Qingtong immediately protected Ah Da, glaring warningly at Yao Qingzhi, “She is definitely not the menace you are after. If you keep giving that fierce look, believe it or not, I’ll gouge out your eyes? This girl has been locked in an incense burner for a thousand years, almost turning into a fool. How could she have any intention to harm people? It’s lucky enough that she isn’t harmed by others.”

Ah Da: “…”
She wasn’t foolish.
