Chapter 946: Chapter 946: Apart from Being Too Beautiful, She Has No Other Flaws

Delphine entered the house and saw that the square courtyard had been cleaned spotless, without a trace of weeds or trees. Even the loquat tree in the middle of the yard had its branches trimmed. The weathered tables and chairs inside had been cleared out, replaced with simple and antique furniture that matched the style of the old house.

A lot of the earlier furniture was unusable, all replaced with new ones. The wood seemed sturdy and likely expensive.

Delphine cheerfully called out to Ignatius Leclair, who had just entered the yard, "Ah, Mu, come quickly."

Ignatius paused slightly as he came in, his phoenix eyes slightly raised. Why not call him husband?

Mr. Leclair recalled that the elder ones refused to call him husband, and the younger ones refused to call him daddy, which gave him a bit of a headache. The revolution has yet to succeed, it seemed.

The man was pulled into the room as he entered the house.

"Did you pick all this furniture?" Delphine asked, her dark eyes sparkling as she looked at him.

The man skipped over all the other furniture in the room, his eyes settling directly on the sturdy, vintage-style carved wooden bed. He smiled faintly and said, "I consulted Grandpa. He has some expertise in this kind of vintage Chinese furniture. This bed is nice and solid."

There’s no worry about the bed breaking during certain activities.

Grandpa had a deep understanding of these types of Chinese furniture, which was evident from the entire rosewood decoration of the Leclair residence.

Delphine noticed that the doors and windows had been repaired while retaining the original architectural style, probably done by top-notch restoration professionals.

Delphine looked out at the bare yard through the window and frowned slightly, saying, "But the yard is too empty; we need to transplant something here. I remember there used to be many trees?"

"They’ve all been cut down. How about I plant some flowers and grass for you?" The man hugged her from behind, indulgently saying, "What would you like to transplant here? I’ll have them delivered tomorrow."

"I’ll need to think about it," Delphine nodded, quickly contemplating the types of flowers, grass, and trees she wanted to transplant.

The small town was relatively secluded. Although it had developed its tourism industry significantly in recent years, news about a remarkable young couple moving into a long-abandoned house quickly spread.

Aunt Wu from across the street came knocking in the evening.

In and out, the renovation had lasted a week. Aunt Wu already knew Delphine was coming back to live. Hearing that Delphine had arrived, she was quite happy.

Her son, Gregory Walker, was still single, working in a big city, commuting to work daily without dating anyone. He constantly asked about the little granddaughter who used to live across the street. Aunt Wu naturally knew her son’s intentions. Besides, Delphine was a child she’d watched grow up, and she was just too beautiful without any other flaws.

Last time, Delphine came and went rather hastily, and no one had lived in the house. Aunt Wu didn’t have time to ask. This time, seeing such a commotion, they probably intended to stay for good. So she gathered twenty eggs from home, cut a strip of cured meat, killed a hen, picked some fresh vegetables, washed them, and packed them in a basket. She decided to come over at dinnertime.

The courtyard door was open, and Aunt Wu saw the newly decorated house, repaired even cleaner than her own, and exuding a hint of ancient charm. Suddenly, her heart skipped a beat. How is it, she wondered, that though they are both houses, the one where the young girl lives just seems different?

"Delphine, are you there? It’s Aunt Wu from across the street," Aunt Wu called out with a smile.

Upon entering, Aunt Wu saw a thin, woven floral carpet spread on the floor. The previous two-panel door had been replaced by a four-panel sliding door. At the entrance stood a half-human-tall blue and white porcelain vase. The interior was simply furnished, with matching wooden tables, chairs, and a small couch, all looking fresh and refined, pleasing to the eye.
