The True Heiress is the Reserved Fiancé's Exclusive Memory-Chapter 583 - 594 Don’t Challenge Me (1)
Mia Ginger was sitting on the bed holding Maeve.
One looked worried, the other expressionless.
The expressionless one was Maeve, who, upon seeing Caiden Ward, merely pressed her lips without speaking.
It seemed—
Since the moment she saw Louis Cox, this girl had been like this.
The one with a worried face, naturally, was Mia Ginger.
Seeing Caiden Ward come in, she finally lifted her eyes to look at him and said blankly, "Brother Ward, has Louis left?"
"Yes." Caiden Ward nodded, "He’s gone."
"Oh." Mia responded, nodding, and tightened her hold on Maeve again.
"Cough, cough." Maeve felt uncomfortable from her embrace and couldn’t help but frown, "It hurts, Sister Mia, it hurts."
"Oh." Mia quickly loosened her grip and let out a long sigh.
Not sure what she was thinking, she suddenly stood up, directly shoved Maeve into Caiden Ward’s arms, turned sideways, and ran out of the ward.
The night in March was chilly with the spring cold.
Wearing a thin hospital gown, she did not feel cold, and ran swiftly downstairs.
The garden downstairs was empty, not a single person in sight.
The wind seemed to have suddenly picked up, whirling mournfully.
Mia took a deep breath, tightly pursing her lips, and continued to run swiftly.
She bypassed the outpatient building, exited the hospital gate, and finally, by the side of the neon-lit street, saw Louis Cox.
The bodyguard had opened the door, and he was just about to get in the car.
Mia’s breath caught, she stopped and shouted, "Louis!"
With just that one shout, tears started streaming down her face.
Louis’ movements paused, his whole body stiffened a bit, and he slowly, slowly turned around.
It was as if he couldn’t believe it, as if he thought he was hallucinating, and once he turned his head, the girl who called his name would vanish.
He saw Mia Ginger.
Still so thin and frail, her hair shaved off due to the car accident, wearing a thin white cap.
Just looking at her made his heart ache.
Yet also grateful.
There had never been a moment in all these years that made him feel this sense of relief.
The girl he yearned and cherished finally wasn’t avoiding him or defensive, she had no hesitation or reluctance, and in the cold, mist-filled night of spring, chased after him, shouting his name.
Louis Cox looked at her steadily, not saying a word. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Mia quickly ran to him and directly threw herself into his arms.
Holding him tightly, her arms constricted as if she was using all the strength she had.
"Louis," she murmured with her head buried in his chest, "It will be fine. You’ll be fine, right? I’ve changed my mind, I’m not going to take care of Maeve for life, I have nothing to do with her anyway. You’re the one who’s related to her, you’re her uncle; she only has you left in this world, you have to take care of her! Louis, you have to take care of her!"
"Mia," Louis lifted her face in one hand, "Why?"
"What?" Mia was stunned, tears covering her face.
"Why chase after me?"
Mia bit her lip looking at him, not speaking.
"Isn’t it because you might like me a little?" Louis suddenly smiled, his voice low, "You’ve known me since you were eleven, in all these years, was there not a moment you liked me? I don’t buy it. Later, I always thought that maybe I just used the wrong approach at the start."
Mia was still biting her lip.
"If I hadn’t forced you or teased you from the beginning, things wouldn’t be like this now. Right?"
Mia still continued to press her lips, still not speaking.
