"A we chat account with Jinling’s face and only one contact." He Xiao Yi loudly announced.

He continued to scroll through the phone, discovering pictures which had been sent to Beimo. Then he found other social media accounts which belonged to Jinling. The same fake ones which had been used in the honey trap.

"This alone is enough to have you arrested for rape." He declared.

Jialin’s composure cracked. "I didn’t rape her. Hu Beimo did."

Liwu raised her eyebrows. "And how do you know that Hu Beimo is the man that assaulted your sister? We have not mentioned his name." She looked at the other detectives. "Did you mention his name?"

They all shook their heads.

"You hated your sister." He Xiao Yi pressed, putting the phone down on the counter. "She was more beautiful than you. I bet she got better grades than you. Your parents loved her more than you. All your boyfriends were attracted to her." He sneered. "Look at your face, it is a botched version of hers."

Jialin screamed and hurled the cup in front of her at him.

He ducked in time, saving his pricey suit. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Liwu cut in, as the voice of understanding. "It’s okay, calm down." She said softly, "Ignore that jerk. He doesn’t understand you at all, but I do. Do you know Zhang Xifeng, she is my younger sister."

Jialin blinked.

Liwu continued. "She followed in my mom’s footsteps. She is the apple of my great great grandfather’s eyes. I am nothing in comparison to her, and I am the older one. A little resentment between siblings is perfectly normal. I met Jinling, she is very...magnetic. I can’t imagine what it was like growing up as her sister. The comparisons must have hurt."

Jialin snapped. "Do you know what it’s like to live in her shadow? As soon as she was born, I was pushed aside. My whole life, she was all that mattered in our family. We ate what she wanted, watched what she wanted and went where she wanted." She slammed her fist into a bun until the butter within squirted out. "She walks into a room and everyone loses the ability to breathe. They all fall in love. Men, women, strangers. She doesn’t even have a system, she was just born that way."

"You were always second best." Liwu’s voice was steady.

Jialin swept the pastries aside, screaming. "I wasn’t even second best, I was invisible. I went into stage acting because I had a passion for it. I spent years training, auditioning, sleeping with....." She folded her fists and growled. "You have no idea the things that I did to get to where I am."

He Xiao Yi snorted.

Jialin flashed her angry cold eyes in his direction. "Of course you don’t understand, because you are just like her. A pretty face that gets you through every door."

He Xiao Yi shrugged. "I was born with it."

"Shut up." Liwu snapped at him. "This is why I hate you." She turned to Jialin. "Ignore him, focus on me. I am the one that understands you. Did Jinling go into stage acting too? We found a script in her bag."

Jialin kicked the counter at least five times, and she didn’t even wince. "She didn’t even try! It was my big break. On the eve of the opening night I invited my parents to come and take a look. I didn’t invite Jinling and I was very vocal about that. They brought her anyway. The director took one look at her and begged her to take my leading role. He gave her a cheque of eight hundred thousand yuan." She laughed manically, "I was playing the role for free and cleaning the dressing rooms. She waltzed in with zero talent, got role and the money without even trying."

"The universe is unfair." Liwu said. "That is why you orchestrated her assault and leaked those pictures to the press. You wanted to destroy her."

Jialin’s hand trembled. She took a deep breath, like someone who had been holding in something for so long and waiting for the opportunity to unburden themselves. "All I did was give her the attention she likes. Since she wanted to be a leading lady so much, I gave her a grand stage. Her whole life, nothing bad ever happened to her." She leaned back in the chair. "Well now it has happened and she will finally learn that the world is a cruel place."

"Yes, the world is a cruel place." Su Jin said slowly, walking towards Jialin with handcuffs. "But, she did not have to learn that from her own sister."

Linlin nodded. "When I spoke to her at the hospital, she was looking for you. She said she wanted her big sister. Not her mom or dad but her big sister. She loves you so much, she looks up to you. It was not her fault that she was born naturally charming."

"But it is yours, for being jealous." He Xiao Yi added. "You are ugly on the inside as you are on the outside. If you didn’t want to be around your sister, why didn’t you move to another city or another country? I have a friend who hates his family so much that he has not been back home for fifteen years. But he is living just fine away from them. You chose to stay and live in resentment, then turned and blamed her. Did she ever actually do anything to hurt you?"

Liwu looked his way briefly. It was not a friend he spoke of, but himself.

"Because she would have just followed me anyway." Jialin whispered. "She always followed me around, just like a puppy."

Memories from her childhood surfaced, a past where her younger sister ran after her with a handful of balloons. She had given them all to her, with an innocent smile on her face.

"I hope you are proud of yourself for destroying your own sister." Su Jin put the cuffs on Jialin’s wrists.

Jialin finally broke down, tears spilling.
