Chapter 60: Sinister

Lin Xiaotian hurriedly entered the cabin, his steps quick yet controlled as he pushed the door open and moved inside without wasting even a moment. Without hesitation, he gently placed Chu Yue onto the bed, making sure not to disturb her condition further.

As her body settled onto the bed, a faint groan escaped her lips, her brows knitting slightly even in unconsciousness as exhaustion weighed heavily upon her. Her breathing remained steady, though noticeably weaker than before.

Lin Xiaotian’s expression turned serious as he extended his senses toward her condition, carefully probing her meridians and internal state with precise control over his spiritual perception. His movements were gentle, avoiding any disruption.

After a few moments of careful inspection, he exhaled slowly as his expression eased slightly, confirming that her internal state remained stable. There was no lasting damage to her cultivation foundation.

"There is nothing to worry about, Elder Han," he said calmly as Han Leu entered the cabin, his tone steady and reassuring despite the tension lingering outside. "Miss Chu is completely fine, her meridians and dantian remain intact without any internal damage."

He paused briefly before continuing, his gaze still resting on her unconscious form as he evaluated the situation carefully. "It seems she collapsed purely due to exhaustion after overexerting herself during the battle."

Han Leu nodded slightly as the tension in his posture eased just a little, though his expression still carried seriousness as the situation outside remained unresolved. The forest was far from safe.

Lin Xiaotian turned slightly and opened the system store within his mind, his focus sharp as he quickly browsed through the available items without hesitation or distraction. Time was not something he could waste.

He quickly selected a healing pill and with a faint flicker of light, the pill appeared in his hand, its surface smooth and faintly glowing as it emitted a gentle medicinal aura into the surrounding air. The quality was clearly high.

Without delay, he stepped closer to Chu Yue, supporting her slightly as he carefully brought the pill toward her lips to administer the medicine properly. His movements were controlled.

As he did so, his fingers brushed lightly against her lips, which felt soft and warm under his touch, sending a faint and unexpected current through his body. His expression froze slightly.

He coughed lightly. "Focus. Lin Xiao Tian... Focus"

The pill dissolved slowly within her mouth, melting into a stream of medicinal energy that spread through her body gradually, healing her external injuries and stabilizing her condition further. Her breathing became steadier.

The tension in her expression eased slightly as the medicinal energy circulated through her meridians, allowing her body to recover naturally from the strain of the battle. Her aura stabilized faintly.

Lin Xiaotian observed silently for a moment, ensuring that the process was proceeding smoothly before finally turning toward the door with a composed expression. His role there was complete.

As he reached the door, he paused briefly and glanced back once more at her face, now calm and composed despite the earlier battle that had nearly cost their lives.

Then he stepped out at the moment he exited the cabin, his expression changed completely as the softness disappeared, replaced by a sharp and calculating gaze that reflected the seriousness of the situation ahead. His focus returned instantly.

"Elder Han," he said calmly, his tone steady as he addressed him without hesitation. "It seems this forest hides far more than we initially expected from the surface."

Han Leu frowned deeply as he fell into contemplation, his brows knitting together as he tried to recall something buried within his memory that felt faintly familiar yet incomplete. The feeling lingered.

"It feels familiar," he said slowly, his voice thoughtful as he tried to piece together fragments of old knowledge. "As if I have read about something similar in an ancient record or historical account before."

He paused briefly before continuing, frustration flickering faintly across his expression as the memory remained just out of reach. "Without access to a proper archive or library, confirming such knowledge is difficult."

Lin Xiaotian stopped walking and then a faint mischievous grin appeared on his face as his expression regained a trace of shameless confidence despite the dangerous situation they were currently facing. His tone lightened slightly.

"Do not worry about that, Elder Han," he said casually, his voice carrying a confidence that did not match the severity of the situation at all. "We might have a way around that problem."

Han Leu looked at him with suspicion. Lin Xiaotian, however, had already opened the system interface within his mind, directly requesting access to the sect’s stored library records without any delay. His intent was clear.

The system responded instantly.

Request denied.

Lin Xiaotian’s expression darkened slightly as his brows furrowed in clear dissatisfaction, his patience wearing thin under the system’s constant restrictions. The timing was terrible.

"Aren’t those my sect’s books?" he asked internally, his tone carrying a hint of irritation that he did not bother hiding.

The system responded again without delay.

Host may summon them independently or pay 1000 system points for direct retrieval.

His expression darkened further.

This damn system...

For a brief moment, he considered ignoring it entirely, but the current situation did not allow pride to interfere with necessity, especially when dealing with unknown dangers.

Fighting an enemy without understanding it was the worst possible mistake.

He sighed internally. "Fine."

The moment he agreed, several jade slips and ancient tomes appeared before him, floating briefly before settling down with a faint glow that quickly faded into stillness.

Lin Xiaotian immediately closed the system interface and stored all the materials into his storage ring without wasting even a moment, his actions smooth and practiced.

"Let’s go," he said.

Together with Han Leu, he moved toward the captain’s cabin with urgency, his steps quick and purposeful as the weight of the situation pressed heavily on his mind.

Entering the cabin, he sat down at the central table and immediately emptied all the materials from his storage ring onto its surface, spreading them out in an organized manner.

Han Leu sat across from him without hesitation as both of them began examining the materials immediately, their focus sharp as they searched for anything relevant.

At first, most of the information proved useless, consisting of basic demonic cultivation methods and minor forbidden techniques that offered little insight into their current situation.

But as they continued, the contents grew darker and far more disturbing, revealing methods that twisted life itself into tools for cultivation through cruel and unnatural processes.

Han Leu remained composed and unmoved. Lin Xiaotian, however, felt his stomach churn slightly as he read one particularly vivid jade slip, the grotesque descriptions detailed enough to make even him uncomfortable. "...What the hell is this."

He exhaled slowly, pushing the discomfort aside as he continued searching through the remaining materials, knowing that stopping now was not an option.

The pile grew smaller as the time passed and just as Lin Xiaotian was beginning to lose hope, Han Leu suddenly stood up abruptly, his movement sharp as he grabbed one of the older tomes from the table.

"I found it, Sect Master," he said firmly, his voice carrying certainty.

Lin Xiaotian looked up immediately as Han Leu placed the tome on the table carefully as he opened it, revealing aged pages that carried a faint and unsettling aura, despite lacking any clear cultivation rank.

"This symbol," Han Leu said slowly, pointing toward a dark mark within the tome. "Was once among the most notorious across the entire cultivation world."

He paused briefly. "This... is the mark of the Raven."

Han Leu’s gaze darkened as he continued, his tone steady yet heavy with meaning as he explained further. "They were once the most feared assassination force and strongest demonic organization across nearly the entire continent several centuries ago."

"Their influence extended far beyond most sects, and their methods were ruthless beyond measure."

"Then suddenly, they vanished without any warning, leaving no trace behind, including their strongest members."

He exhaled slowly. "Many theories emerged, some claiming they offended a greater power, while others believed they were punished by the Heavenly Dao itself."

"Some even say they went into hiding, though none of these theories were ever confirmed."

Han Leu tapped the page again. "The techniques we saw today, and especially the mark on the puppet’s arm, match this symbol exactly."

Lin Xiaotian leaned back slightly. "...Why here?" he asked slowly.

Han Leu sighed. "That is something we do not know yet, but this is no small matter, and we must investigate it further at all costs."

Lin Xiaotian nodded. "I agree." He paused briefly before adding, his expression turning slightly darker. "But I have a feeling that this might be far more sinister than we are expecting."

Far away, deep within the center of the corrupted forest, a massive cavern lay open, its entrance wide and dark like an endless abyss waiting silently.

Inside, thousands of beast corpses were scattered across the ground, ranging from Foundation Establishment to even Nascent Soul level, all of them completely drained of life.

Each corpse was connected by a thin red vein that extended deeper into the cavern, stretching further into darkness where something unseen continued to pulse.

The cavern breathed silently and, in its depths lay a abyss of no return.
