Chapter 49: Rulers

Vacuse’s brain was working hard to know who the man was. His one eye glittered coldly and it narrowed.

Apart from him and Drenvar, who other has a status high enough to be respected by the Dragon Guard like that?

A rumor he once heard in his past life entered his mind and he immediately asked Rith, ’..what did this man looks like to you? What does his aura feels like..’

’..Dragon...and Dragon kins twisted into each other. I’ve never seen anything like this before. I can feel the pathway on him! How is that possible!..’

Vacuse took a deep breath as he understood what was happening. "You are Zorathian Vorrakyn, the Watch and commander of the Dragon Guard!"

Zorathian raised his brows. "It always takes this much time for your brain to start working?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Zorathian is a very dangerous man. Even in past life, Vacuse had only ever heard of him through rumors and had never seen him before.

And what Rith said about feeling the pathway on him was true. Zorathian should be the most powerful Vorrakyn, even more powerful than Drenvar and that was because he is the Ruler of the Dragon pathway.

Rulers of Pathway is a term that was born through a twisted research into pathway to seek more powers for Soulbearers. Soulbearers can only have one Bound, but what if they could briefly summon beasts from the pathway and use them as they want?

That was what being the Ruler of a pathway is.

Almost every family has it. But it’s a difficult thing to do. It entails the use of the heart of the highest beast in the said pathway. Using the heart of an S ranked Dragon will create the Ruler that can briefly summon all the Dragon kins below the S ranked.

Rulers of pathway are the ultimate that all Soulbearer can reach and what they all want to reach.

There’s a problem though. There can only be one Ruler of a pathway at a time. And the artifact that was made through the ritual would be implanted directly into their heart.

That’s why the problem lies.

Rulers use their life force to summon the beasts and maintain the Ruler artifact. They don’t live long because of that and the more they use the power, the faster they grow weaker and older.

In his past life during the end when Vacuse died, there was a rumor that Zorathian, the current Ruler, was dying and they needed a replacement.

Vacuse relaxed a bit as he now understood who he was facing. But what he didn’t understand was if the man was working for Drenvar or doing things alone.

"So, you are the one that tell them to stop me from going out?"

Zorathian shrugged. "Didn’t I tell you to go to your room just now? What are you still doing? I thought the new ’Dragon’ will be interesting but it’s the same old cliche boy that thinks his power is high enough to warrant his arrogance."

Vacuse felt a flash of anger and then he got annoyed at himself he fell for what the man must be trying to do. He thought about it logical and he smiled slightly.

At the end of the day, he was the Heir and that comes with power. He’s not a runt that can be looked down on. "Oh? You mean I should follow my father’s lap dog just because he’s barking hard? What are you going to do when I don’t return to the room, kill me?"

He cut straight to the point.

In his last life, Vacuse was so concerned with his survival. He feared death and almost anyone can kill him and nobody would bat an eye.

But now?

Things are different.

He is the Vorrakyn’s heir. He has a Dragon and Zorathian is ultimately a Dragon Guard.

A flash ran across Zorathian’s eyes and he narrowed it. "I heard about what you did in the hall. Showing your powers off in front of everyone and that the Duke nearly killed you. Are you showing the same arrogance now?

"Will you attack me too? I’m not the Duke. I kill Vorrakyn for fun."

Vacuse stiffened against his will. Unlike the Ruler rumors, everyone knew that Zorathian is the Watch and that position in the family is like that of an assassin that’s given the authority to watch and root out rebellion with or without the Dragon Lord’s authority.

In short, Zorathian can kill whoever he wanted in the family.

It was a position that was created during the time when the family was at the peak and there are hundreds of powerful Vorrakyn. It’s a position held by the Dragon Lord’s most trusted and his most powerful men.

They root out rebellions that’s specific to the family because during the time when S Dragons were common, everyone wanted to be the Dragon Lord.

Vacuse shrugged. "I am no ordinary Vorrakyn. I am Vacuse Vorrakyn and I am the heir."

He raised his ring.

"So you’re using your position now? Throwing it around as if it means anything?" Zorathian said with narrowed eyes.

Vacuse shrugged. He wasn’t ashamed to throw his name and position around. Why should he? It was part of his power and something he earned. It is his.

"Yes. Do you want to kill the heir of the Vorrakyn?" One thing the Vorrakyn can sense like monsters in the forest like blood is weakness. But right then, Vacuse is like a sword planted firmly on the ground, his one eye glaring hard.

They stared at each other for a long time, the tension between them thick enough to be cut with a sword.

But then Zorathian moved first. He smiled. "Really. Maybe you’ll be a threat when you are stronger but right now you are a small Dragon. And a small Dragon is still, after all, small."

With that he shot forward so fast that Vacuse didn’t see him move at all. One moment he was there and the next instant he was standing in front of Vacuse.

Before he knew what was happening, pain flared through him and his stomach clenched.
