Chapter 40: Void Dragon, SS I

There was a good reason for their uproar.

SSS rank might be rare and unseen in the Dragon’s pathway, but it has been mentioned as myth and legends of the Imperial family. It was said that the founder Emperor had a beast just like that.

But that’s just it. Myth and legend. It’s something that doesn’t exist anymore.

The highest rank is the SS, and those that have it are regarded as gods. Rightfully so.

But SSS rank?

The whispering turned more heated, and the people started to form suspicions that it was something that was planned. At the same time, they couldn’t forget the feeling of the eye that stared down at them.

Vacuse understood their reactions. He really did. He felt the same way when he first met the Void Dragon. But right then, the technique that Rith forced his body to use was causing massive headaches to him, and he couldn’t stand them anymore. "Enough!"

His voice was like a whip that cracked in the air. Immediately, everyone fell into silence. Vacuse turned and glared at the room coldly with his one eye, while the other closed one dripped with blood.

"You are in the presence of the Dragon Lord! Show your respect!"

Vacuse didn’t feel a lick of respect for the Dragon Lord, maybe for the seat, but it got the people quiet and relieved his headache.

Drenvar finally took over. "You are right, Vacuse Vorrakyn. This is the Dragon Hall and the Dragon Throne. That is why I must ask, are you trying to pull a stunt here?"

Drenvar gestured to the broken orb and the man that stood in front of it, implying if they had colluded to pull it off together.

The orb man’s eyes widened, and he fell to his knees. "Your Grace! I don’t know anything about this. This is entirely what the orb showed me!"

Duke Frexon had regained his composure, but his eyes were now cold and flashed with faint killing intent. "Then, it’s simple. We should confirm again. I will personally look at it as a third party."

What he meant was that he was one of the people that would absolutely expose Vacuse and kill him immediately if his... stunt was called off.

Drenvar didn’t argue and sent word for another orb to be brought over.

But a feeling of unease and excitement hung over the room. The orbs were created years ago, even before the Empire was formed, so how can someone tamper with it?

They brought a new one over, and it was handed over to Duke Frexon, who strode forward. He checked the orb and couldn’t find anything amiss about it. "You are so full of surprises."

Vacuse looked at the man and didn’t smile. He had now considered the man a high threat to his life, and he was itching to kill him.

As Vacuse saw it, Duke Frexon would do anything to kill him, and so he must find a way to return the favor.

"You’d be surprised," Vacuse said and placed his hand on the orb.

Unlike before, Vacuse controlled his energy perfectly and only let the needed amount into the orb.

Duke Frexon looked down and suddenly sucked in a sharp breath. A lot of things crumbled before his face, and his face fell. He could see the plans he had for the Vorrakyn family crumbling, but his eyes were as firm and determined as ever.

After all, a baby Dragon is still, after all, a baby Dragon.

He took several steps back.

"What is the result, Duke Frexon?" Drenvar asked without a hint of emotion, but his eyes were locked on the man.

Duke Frexon turned around and smiled gently. "It is as was said. Congratulations, Drenvar Vorrakyn. Congratulations to the Vorrakyn family. It is an SSS ranked Dragon."

There was a pause. Several people sucked in sharp breaths, and then the room fell into a shocked jubilation.

Drenvar went very still, and then his eyes shone with envy and jealousy, as well as a strong light of ambition, before it became cold again and he smiled. "Good."

The same thing happened throughout the room. They looked at Vacuse with envy and jealousy.

Lyra’s fist tightened, and her smile was a bit forced. "I said it years ago. He’s indeed a dangerous beast."

"Well, fuck me!" Kagerou grinned, his hand rubbing his daggers. "Are you saying I’m going to be serving someone like the ancient Emperors? Harkon, he already called us his direct subordinate!"

Harkon grunted, his face sour but his eyes glinted. "What a bother."

Drenvar suddenly stood, and the room returned to silence. "Finally! After so many years. A Dragon will spread its wings over the Vorrakyn family again. The Western Region is made better with this! The Empire is made better with this! The world is made better with this! A Dragon is born!"

To the side, Duke Frexon twitched, and his smile became a little forced. "...it’s not even up to an hour, and this bastard is already planning... the game has been changed... a new player has joined..."

Drenvar let the words sink in. His red eyes shone with a bright light. The light that matched almost all the ones that stared back. No matter what. A Dragon had been born to the Vorrakyn once more.

And he said the same out loud. "A Dragon has been born to our family. We will spread our wings once more, and our shadow will cover the land!" freewёbnoνel.com

Auras exploded from all the Vorrakyn in attendance. Even the weakest of the weak showed the pride of the Dragon family.

It was times like this that Vacuse always felt glad that he came from the Vorrakyn family, with a history as long as a Dragon’s shadow.

Assassination aside, discrimination aside, oppressing the weak aside, cold-blooded killers aside, madness aside, sacrificing loyal servants aside — Vacuse was really glad for his family.

And that was why he wanted to rebuild it with his own hands.

Drenvar grinned. "I say, Vacuse Vorrakyn. Will you be the heir of the Vorrakyn family?"
