THE REAL PROTEGE-Chapter 510: SISU: THE CONFESSION
The Night After the Reunion: Sisu's Inner Turmoil
The clan's laughter had long faded into silence. Peonies Castle, hushed and shrouded in dim lantern light, lay blanketed in shadows that stretched across its walls like watchful sentinels.
In the chamber, two brothers lay side by side. Between them, however, yawned a vast distance — unspoken truths and trembling hearts filling the space.
Sisu lay stiff beneath the blanket, trembling with each breath. His heart hammered; Mushu was close, every motion both comfort and torment.
He turned, gaze lingering on Mushu's silhouette. Broad shoulders, calm posture — quiet authority that always drew him in. His lips parted, but no words came.
Sisu whispering to himself, unheard: "Why did Father send me back here? To lie beside him again, to feel this closeness that tears me apart? I can't endure this… and yet I crave it. Every breath he takes feels like it belongs to me."
Tears welled, hot and bitter. He buried his face in the pillow, muffling a sob. His chest ached, his mind screamed: "I love you."
Mushu's Silent Resolve
Beside him, Mushu lay awake, eyes on the ceiling. His mask had already cracked; tonight it shattered. He felt Sisu's trembling, heard the stifled sobs.
His chest tightened. Guilt gnawed, sharpened by the fear he might fail his brother. Ling Li's words echoed: "Do not shame him. Do not break him. Be the brother he needs."
Mushu's silent thought:
'I cannot return what he feels. But I cannot abandon him either. He is my brother. My family. If his heart trembles because of me, then I must bear it, even as I wish things could be simpler. My responsibility is to protect him.'
He turned, studying Sisu's curled form. His hand twitched, longing to reach out, but he held back, fearing touch would deepen the ache. Instead, he whispered into the darkness, voice steady but heavy with sorrow:
Mushu said, low, resolute: "You're not alone, Sisu. I'll stand beside you. Always."

Sisu's breath hitched. Hope surged, then fear crushed it. He clutched his pillow tighter, whispering into the fabric:
Sisu silent, trembling: 'Always… he said always. Does that mean he feels it too? Or is it only kindness? Father, why is this so cruel?
Mushu closed his eyes, jaw clenched. He had faced assassins, clans, and wars. Now, as he lay beside his brother, knowing he had failed to protect him, utter defeat washed over him.
Mushu silently thought, 'I can fight armies and endure wounds. But this storm in his heart, I cannot conquer. All I can do is shield him — even if it breaks me.'
Night stretched on in silence. Beneath his blanket, Sisu trembled, drowning in unspoken love. Meanwhile, Mushu — burdened by helpless compassion — lay awake; his resolve hardened into steel.
Two brothers: one consumed by longing, the other by duty. Between them, a battlefield of the heart, sharper than any blade.
And in the stillness of Peonies Castle, both whispered into the darkness — one a plea, the other a vow.
Sisu: "I love you."
Mushu: "I'll protect you. Always."
Breaking Point
The following night was heavy, the silence inside Peonies Castle pressing down like a weight. Light flickered against the walls, shadows stretching long across the chamber. Mushu sat at the desk, his posture steady, his eyes fixed on reports he wasn't truly reading. His mind was restless, circling endlessly around the storm he had seen in Sisu's eyes.
On the bed, Sisu lay curled beneath the blanket, clutching his pillow as if it were the only thing keeping him from shattering. His chest rose and fell in uneven rhythm, his breath trembling. Every kindness Mushu had shown since his return — every protective gesture, every softened word — had chipped away at his defenses. Tonight, he could no longer hold back.
Sisu sat up suddenly, the blanket sliding from his shoulders. His eyes shimmered with tears, his lips trembling.
Sisu's voice shaking, raw:
"Big Brother… I can't keep this inside anymore. I need to tell you something."
Mushu looked up, startled. His sharp gaze met Sisu's, and for a moment, the air thickened, charged with unspoken truth.
Mushu, steady, but cautious.
"Sisu… what is it?"
Sisu's throat tightened. His hands clenched into fists, nails digging into his palms. His heart pounded so violently it hurt.
The Confession
The words tore free, desperate and trembling.
:
Sisu, voice breaking, with tears spilling:
"I love you not just as a brother… not just as family. I've loved you for years, silently, hopelessly. Every night, I've trembled because I can't hide it anymore. When Father sent me back to you, I thought it was a punishment, because being near you is both heaven and torment. I can't stop it. I can't change it. I love you, Mushu."
His voice cracked, his body shaking as the confession poured out. He buried his face in his hands, sobbing openly now, terrified of what Mushu's silence might mean.
Mushu froze, his chest constricting. The storm he had feared was now laid bare before him. He rose slowly, crossing the room with deliberate steps. His stoic mask was gone, replaced by raw vulnerability.
He knelt before Sisu, gently pulling his trembling hands away from his face. His own voice was low, heavy with sorrow but steady with compassion.
Mushu whispered, soft, yet resolute:
"Sisu… I heard your heart long before you spoke. And now you've given me your truth. I cannot return that love in the way you wish. My heart does not beat that way. But listen to me — never think your feelings make you shameful. Never think they make you less. You are my brother, my only family. I will never despise you. I will never abandon you. I will stand beside you, always."
Sisu's sobs quieted, though tears still streamed down his cheeks. His chest ached, torn between devastation and relief. Mushu's words were not the answer he had dreamed of, but they were not rejection either. They were compassion, protection, and a vow.
Mushu pulled him into a firm embrace, his hand steady against Sisu's back.
Mushu, continued, whispering:
"Sisu, you are not alone. You will never be alone. Let your heart beat as it must. I will protect it, even if I cannot share it."
Sisu clung to him, trembling, his tears soaking Mushu's shoulder. The storm inside him had broken, but in its place lay a fragile peace — the peace of truth finally spoken, and of love met with compassion.
