THE REAL PROTEGE-Chapter 509: THE RUTHLESS PURGE
Ling Li's Purge
Within the Li Clan, Ling Li looked inward. Betrayal simmered among elders, and she would not allow weakness within her fortress.
Disloyal elders were summoned before her jade aura, their excuses silenced by her cold brilliance.
Those who plotted treachery lost titles, had their cores shattered, and their names erased from clan records.
Families who had sided with the rebellion were expelled, their mansions burned, their banners torn down.
They begged for mercy and forgiveness. But Ling Li was unyielding.
"You have plotted against your own clan and risked its legacy, and you're asking for forgiveness? Impossible!"
Li Tianyuan, "Shameless!!!"
The purge was merciless but necessary. Ling Li's jade-green eyes burned with resolve — 'Better a small, loyal clan than a large one poisoned by betrayal.'
Li Tianyuan's Vigilance
Throughout the purge, Li Tianyuan stood silently, his presence a mountain of authority. He observed every elder, every flicker of hesitation, every shadow of disloyalty. None escaped his gaze.
His silence was not indifference — it was judgment. And when the purge was complete, he openly supported Ling Li, his authority sealing her decisions.
The Li Mansion, once divided, was now cleansed of disloyalty. Its halls echoed only with unity and resolve.
Li Tianyuan returned to the Verdant Bamboo Pavilion, his disciples at his side, carrying the weight of victory and vigilance.
News of Ling Li's swift and ruthless purge within the Li Clan spread throughout the Hidden Valley.
Return to Peonies Castle – Reunion of Hearts
Ling Li and her family left for Peonies Castle in Shanghai; their return was marked not by celebration but by solemn triumph. The castle walls embraced them, a fortress of jade and peony, where legacy would be kept, and the next chapter readied.
While the Hidden Valley trembled, rival clans regrouped in exile, and shadows whispered of war yet to come. But for now, the Li Clan endured — purged, united, and unbroken.
Ling Li's jade-green eyes burned as she looked upon her family, whispering to herself:
"The storm has passed, but the shadows remain."
The gates of Peonies Castle opened. Lanterns flickered against the carved wood, casting anxious shadows. The scent of peonies drifted through the air, wrapping the weary Li Clan in a bittersweet warmth, mingled with longing and relief. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Ling Li and Four Eyes – The Triplets
Ling Li's composure was shattered. The faint giggles from the nursery reached her ears. She rushed forward, tears already burning her eyes.
Ling Li murmured, her voice trembling.
"My little ones… Mama is home…"
She collapsed to her knees. She gathered the triplets into her arms. Their tiny hands clutched her shirt. Laughter bubbled like bells.
Four Eyes followed. At last, his stoic mask broke. Tears welled. His lips trembled into a rare smile as he touched their cheeks.
Four Eyes whispering, eyes glistening.
"I thought I'd forgotten how to smile… but seeing you, I can't."
The triplets squealed, their innocence dissolving the shadows of war.
Behind them, the twins burst forward, their cries sharp with joy, feet barely touching the polished floor.
Twins shouting together
"Sisters! Sisters! We missed you!"
They hugged their little sisters tightly, savouring the warmth, then leapt into their grandparents' arms, hearts pounding with joy.
Mrs. Xu sobbing
"Heavens, thank you… Our family is whole again!"
Mr Li's voice, cracking.
"I'm glad you are all safe. Ten days felt like ten years… come here, my treasures."
The hall trembled with cries, bubbling laughter, and tears. For the first time in ten days, the Li Clan tasted peace.
While joy rang through the hall, Mushu's mind was elsewhere. His thoughts circled only one name: Sisu. Mushu slipped away.
Mushu Returns – Searching for Sisu
Mushu moved swiftly through Peonies Castle, boots striking the polished floor. Chandeliers sputtered. Shadows crept along the walls; darkness settled in corners. He scrutinised every servant, every alcove. His brother was nowhere in sight.
Mushu murmured. Low and urgent.
"Where is he? He should have been here to greet me… unless…"
His jaw clenched. Memories flooded back: Sisu's burning cheeks as she fought tears, her trembling hands clutching the blanket, the way she paced through sleepless nights. Ling Li's words repeated like a mantra: "Some hearts tremble for reasons they cannot say aloud."
Mushu reached the familiar corridor leading to his chambers. He paused, hand over the handle. Faint sounds — shuffling feet, uneven breath — caught his ear. Mushu's heart tightened.
He pushed the door open.
Inside, Sisu sat curled on the bed, clutching a pillow to his chest. His hair was dishevelled, his cheeks flushed, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. At the sight of Mushu, he jolted upright, panic flashing across his face.
Sisu, voice cracking.
"Big Brother… you're back."
His words were simple, but his trembling tone carried relief, fear, and longing.
The Reunion
Mushu stepped inside, closing the door quietly. His presence was steady, commanding, but his heart remained unsteady.
He crossed the room, stopping near Sisu. He scanned Sisu's trembling form, red cheeks, and tight grip on the pillow.
Mushu, gentle but firm.
"I looked everywhere for you. Why are you hiding here?"
Sisu's lips parted, but no words came. His throat tightened, chest heaving. With lowered eyes, he whispered, barely audible.
"I… I didn't know if you wanted to see me first."
Mushu's brows furrowed in concern. He reached out, steady and protective, resting a hand on Sisu's shoulder. The touch sent Sisu's heart racing with confusion and hope.
Mushu replied.
"You're my brother. I'll always look for you first."
The Hidden Storm
Sisu's eyes widened. Mushu's words pierced him — 'always look for you first'. His lips trembled, confession clawing at his throat.
'Tell him. Tell him now. He's here, he's close, he's gentle. Tell him you love him.'
But fear strangled him. He bit his lip until it bled and forced the words back. Tears welled; his voice broke as he whispered hoarsely:
"I missed you."
Mushu's chest constricted. He drew Sisu into a tight embrace, his hand firm against his back.
"I missed you too. And I'll never let you feel alone again." Mushu replied, his voice low and resolute.
The room fell silent. Only the sound of their uneven breaths lingered. Mushu's embrace was strong and protective, but beneath his steady arms, his heart raced with helplessness, unable to soothe Sisu's quiet trembling. He had seen the aching truth in Sisu's eyes — his longing, his fear, and all the words left unsaid between them.
Ling Li's counsel echoed once more: "Do not shame him. Do not break him. Be the brother he needs."
Mushu gripped Sisu tighter, his stoic facade fracturing to reveal vulnerability. He could battle armies and withstand wounds, but his brother's secret love was a conflict he could only survive, not conquer.
Peonies Castle glowed with laughter and tears. Triplets shrieked with delight. The twins spun, breathless with uncontained joy. Grandparents clung to each other in trembling, tearful embraces. Together, they wove a tapestry of love that soothed the raw wounds of war.
