The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 328: Sleeping beauty- II
I felt it even before I opened my eyes—his presence in my room.
My body was aware of it as well. He had effects and almost everything, on every part of me too. So, without even opening my eyes, I knew he was close and he was watching me.
I opened my eyes and noticed that the room was dark, the curtains had been drawn for his presence which could mean that it was still the day. Maybe, it was late evening because there was a dull-golden glow behind the curtain from what I could see.
Slowly, I remembered the last thing I had done. I had taken herbal tea to fall asleep early so that I would not have to witness the execution. So far, it seems to be working.
I hoped it did. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The tea would not be given to me again, so if the execution had not been carried you, this attempt was nothing but a failure.
My body was still hyper-aware of his presence in the room. Given whatever time it was of the day and night, I never found Tristan to be sleeping. Just like at the moment, I always found him to be awake.
"Do you never sleep?" I whispered into the darkness of the room. His ears would catch it. He was a vampire and they heard a lot of things with volumes lower than this.
"When my beloved takes an unknown drink to fall asleep, I prefer to keep an eye on her in case anything goes wrong."
Anything goes wrong? Was he expecting me to die? I wanted to laugh at the thought.
"If I wanted to die, I don’t think I would have come so far." I chuckled. "why would I go through so many horrifying things only if I have to die in the end?" I would have ended it long ago.
"Good thing that he had been turned into a vampire by the end of the year then."
I choked on nothing. Getting up to sit, I coughed into my hand. The shock of the comment definitely got to me.
I felt a warm hand on my back, rubbing it gently trying to calm me down. Tristan stood close to me as he tried to soothe my coughing.
Once I felt better, he moved away but still remained in close proximity.
"What did you think you were doing when you drank that tea?" He asked with anger blazingly in those red eyes. "Drinking tea to help you fall asleep? What hell is wrong with you, Genevive? Do you not understand what could have happened if the berries were not picked out correctly?"
I did. I knew what would have happened if the berries were picked before they were ripe or overripe as well. And what could happen in case they were wrong ones which were similar to one that was poisonous?
"I knew it," I answered him, not bothering to hide the truth. "But I could not witness the execution," I told him that as well.
"then you should have fucking told me so!" He snapped and I dropped my eyes to the bed.
"Do you not value your life anymore? In that case, allow me to turn you right away."
"I don’t value my life and you want to make me live Forever?" I repeated with sarcasm heavy in my tone. "I wonder how that would work for you."
"Enough." His eyes flashed. "Do not joke about that."
"I won’t." I gave him a tight-lipped smile.
His jaw tightened and he closed his eyes. He looked like he was trying to calm himself. Tristan huffed before turning his head to the side. "Are you trying to make me angry on purpose?"
"No." I was not. In fact, I did not even want him in my room. "You are the one who was watching me sleep. How am I supposed to react to that?"
"None of us knew the effects of the tea." He glared at me. "What else was I supposed to do to make sure that you woke up and did not pass away in your sleep?"
"And watching me sleep was going to be the solution to that?" I questioned, narrowing my eyes his way. "Have you done this before?"
"What?"
"Come into my room without my permission to watch me sleep?"
He fell silent and turned his head to the other side giving me his answer without any words.
Good lord, how long had he been doing this for?!
"Tristan!" I shrieked. "What were you thinking when doing something like this?!"
When he continued to stare off at a distance, it agitated me even more. I picked up a small cushion and aimed it at his head.
Tristan took a step to the back and caught the pillow before it could ever touch his head. "Excellent aim."
"Shut up."
He chuckled before returning to his neutral expression. "Yes, I have done this before many times and I have done this because it is the only time I can stare at you without any interruptions."
My cheeks heated up at his confession. "Does that mean you would do it again?"
"Unashamedly, yes."
Dear lord. "I will lock my room from now on then." Apparently, the two soldiers he had outside my room were no good. Someone was coming into my room late at night and they could not even do anything. But then again, Tristan was the king. So, they might not have many options.
Uncomfortable with him standing in my dark bedroom, I pushed for him to leave. "I am awake now. I do not think I would be falling asleep again."
"That’s good," he commented dryly.
I nodded. "Yes, it indeed is. So, you can carry on with your kingly activities for the day. I would hate for you to be held back because of me."
"Does the thought of marriage with me repulse you that much?" He asked, and I looked at him.
