"A formal meeting?"

Han Mi-sun shot up from her seat. Seo Eun-hee quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her back down.

"Calm down and listen to me first."

"No, but how can you call it a formal meeting when Father himself went there...?"

Han Mi-sun muttered in disbelief, her voice trailing off. Seo Eun-hee, looking troubled, sighed. Mi-sun had overheard her phone conversation with her son earlier and had refused to budge from her seat until she got an explanation. There was no way around it.

"Sister-in-law, how could you not tell me? I told you I had Tae-seo in mind as a match for In-hyuk."

"That may be true, but that was entirely your decision. Besides, I asked to meet you because I had something to tell you, and you said you were too busy."

"Sister-in-law!"

Not meeting her was one thing, but that excuse was pathetic. Han Mi-sun raised her voice. Seo Eun-hee lifted both hands in surrender, trying to calm her down.

"Alright, alright. I’ll be honest with you. Father told me not to blow this out of proportion."

"Father...?"

"Yes. Why else do you think I didn’t tell you in advance? Do you think I was comfortable staying quiet, knowing how you feel about Tae-seo?"

Seo Eun-hee exhaled deeply, as if deciding to lay everything out.

"I don’t know if you’re aware, but Tae-seo was hospitalized recently. Father personally went to visit him. After that, he told me not to put any pressure on him."

Seo Eun-hee’s voice faded, and in the ensuing silence, only Han Mi-sun’s rough breathing could be heard.

"Tae-seo has already made up his mind to marry Se-heon. Can’t you just let him go?"

"Sister-in-law! How can you say that? Do you have any idea how long I’ve been watching over Tae-seo?"

"I know. But he’s marrying Se-heon now."

"‘Our Se-heon, our Se-heon.’ Sister-in-law, are you saying this just to get on my nerves?"

Han Mi-sun latched onto the repeated mention of ‘our Se-heon’ in Eun-hee’s words.

"Fine. To you, Se-heon comes first. But my son comes first for me."

Han Mi-sun stood up. This time, Seo Eun-hee didn’t even try to stop her.

"I’m sorry for In-hyuk, but fate is what it is. In the end, he and Se-heon were meant to be together."

"No. I will never accept this."

Turning on her heel, Han Mi-sun stormed out of Seo Eun-hee’s office. She walked briskly, her hands clenched so tightly into fists that her nails dug into her palms.

"I can’t just stand by and watch."

No, it wasn’t just that. She couldn’t stand being looked down on. There was no way she would let this slide.

Rummaging through her handbag, she pulled out her phone. After dialing a few numbers, she pressed it against her ear.

"Where is Chairman Kang right now?"

Her sharp eyes gleamed as she set her sights on Kang Hak-jung’s whereabouts.

Tae-seo took a sip of water, catching his breath. At first, his throat had gone dry from nerves while waiting for his parents. Now, it was dry from talking so much. He had been startled when Chairman Kang Hak-jung appeared, but now the atmosphere felt surprisingly comfortable.

"Your glass is empty again. Was the food too salty?"

"No, not at all. It was delicious."

Shaking his head to clarify, Tae-seo noticed Se-heon refilling his glass. His gaze moved between his now-full cup, Chairman Kang, and Se-heon.

Chairman Kang had noticed his empty glass. Se-heon had refilled it. Before his own parents even had a chance to take care of him, the two of them were already looking after him. A soft smile lingered on Tae-seo’s lips.

‘Thank goodness.’

Contrary to his worries, the formal meeting was going smoothly. Though Tae-seo had made an effort to keep the atmosphere light, everyone, including Se-heon, seemed to be enjoying the occasion. If things could just stay like this until the end, he thought, it would be perfect.

"Mind if I join you?"

The door swung open, and Han Mi-sun stepped ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) in. Tae-seo’s breath hitched in surprise.

"Ah, hello."

Startled, Tae-seo instinctively rose from his seat and greeted her. Han Mi-sun responded with a bright smile.

"I heard you were here, so I came by."

"Ah..."

"I suppose you weren’t informed about this gathering, Aunt."

Before Tae-seo could form a proper response, Se-heon interjected. His tone made it clear that she wasn’t welcome, yet Han Mi-sun didn’t hesitate to step further inside.

She pulled out a chair next to Tae-seo and sat down, making eye contact with Chairman Kang, Yoon Seok-hoon, and Kim Mi-kyung in turn. The blatant rudeness of her actions turned Chairman Kang’s face red with anger, while Kim Mi-kyung’s expression hardened.

Despite knowing she was an unwelcome guest, Han Mi-sun shamelessly held her ground. And to make matters worse, she kept her gaze locked onto Tae-seo. Uncomfortable, Tae-seo fidgeted with his glass, unsure how to respond to her sudden presence.

"What’s wrong? Are you surprised to see me?"

"To be honest... yes."

"I didn’t want to come uninvited either. But what choice did I have? Since you wouldn’t come to me, I had to come to you."

Not only had she forced her way in, but she now brazenly called over a server and requested a glass for herself. She clearly had no intention of leaving any time soon.

After assessing the atmosphere, Han Mi-sun turned her attention back to Tae-seo.

"I thought you and In-hyuk would end up together. This is unexpected."

Though she was smiling, there was an unmistakable sharpness in her words. Tae-seo, despite having just drank water, suddenly felt parched and swallowed dryly.

"In-hyuk and I are just friends."

"Friends? But you liked him quite a bit, didn’t you?"

"At one point, I did..."

Tae-seo trailed off, unsure how to finish. The original Yoon Tae-seo in the novel had indeed liked Kang In-hyuk, hoping for his affection. Tae-seo was aware of that history, but he no longer had any feelings for In-hyuk. Yet Han Mi-sun was deliberately dragging up the past.

"First love, then."

Before Tae-seo could figure out how to respond, Se-heon spoke up in his stead.

"If it was in the past, it must have been a first love. Or was it just a one-sided crush?"

"...Both, I suppose."

Tae-seo gave a small nod, acknowledging the statement. He didn’t deny it, but it was an uncomfortable topic to discuss in this setting. However, the one who had brought it up, Kang Se-heon, remained utterly composed.

"It’s just a feeling from the past."

"That’s not for you to say, Se-heon. How would you know if it's in the past or not? Or... is that what you’re hoping for?"

Han Mi-sun’s sarcastic remark made the atmosphere even heavier. Chairman Kang Hak-jung let out an uncomfortable cough, but Han Mi-sun didn’t bother to hide the resentment in her eyes as she glared at Se-heon.

Sensing that someone was bound to explode at any moment, Kim Mi-kyung finally stepped in.

"Mi-sun, this isn’t the place for this conversation."

"Why not? It’s not like In-hyuk is some stranger. He’s just as much Father’s grandson as Se-heon is. I thought it’d be good to let him know."

Han Mi-sun fixed her gaze on Chairman Kang.

"I was planning for Tae-seo to marry our In-hyuk, but I never expected things to turn out like this with Se-heon. What do you think, Father?"

"I think Se-heon is a better match."

"Is that just because he’s here?"

It was clear that Han Mi-sun had come prepared for battle. She wasn’t going to back down easily—no, she couldn’t back down. She had always been resentful that her sister-in-law’s family stood at the center of KH Group. She had been waiting for the perfect moment to flip the situation in her favor. Marrying Tae-seo to In-hyuk had been her plan for securing that victory, but if things continued like this, she’d only end up giving wings to Kang Se-heon’s rise.

"Even now, I’d rather see Tae-seo with In-hyuk than Se-heon. It may seem desperate, but what else can I do? If I want to protect what’s mine, I have no other choice."

Though she tried to keep her face neutral, her eyes were filled with frustration.

"Se-heon may be a fleeting connection, but In-hyuk isn’t. Tae-seo, you know this. You’ve loved In-hyuk for far longer and far deeper."

Han Mi-sun forced a smile, as if offering one final chance.

"Think about it again. If you’re hesitating because you think In-hyuk doesn’t feel the same way, let me tell you—he does. In-hyuk said he likes you, too."

"Really?"

Tae-seo asked, not out of excitement, but out of disbelief. He tilted his head slightly, confused. There was no way Kang In-hyuk would have said that. He was completely devoted to Seo Da-rae, like a sunflower following the sun.

However, Han Mi-sun misread his reaction and responded with certainty.

"Of course. He’s willing to marry you."

She was carefully stirring Tae-seo’s emotions, trying to sway him. How long could he have possibly been with Se-heon? In comparison, In-hyuk may not measure up to Se-heon now, but with time, everything could be fixed.

"Should I call In-hyuk right now?"

As Han Mi-sun pulled out her phone, Tae-seo’s hands flinched anxiously. Compared to when Chairman Kang had suddenly appeared, this situation was far worse.

Before he could say anything, Se-heon stepped forward.

"I’m sorry, but that won’t be necessary. As you can see, this gathering is about Tae-seo and my marriage. Aunt, you’ve overstayed your welcome."

"I understand that you feel wronged, but Tae-seo has made his choice."

Even Chairman Kang stepped in, trying to put an end to the matter.

"It’s time for you to leave. I’ll reach out to you separately."

"Father! Tae-seo is In-hyuk’s Omega!"

"Enough!"

Despite Chairman Kang’s firm rebuke, Han Mi-sun refused to back down, her eyes blazing with defiance.

"Aunt, please stop. You’re making Tae-seo uncomfortable."

As if that wasn’t enough, Se-heon placed a steady hand on Tae-seo’s shoulder. Tae-seo hesitated, then slowly nodded. With pleading eyes, he looked up at Han Mi-sun, silently wishing she would let this go. But she showed no signs of retreating.

At this point, there seemed to be no choice but to end the gathering entirely. Tae-seo had hoped for everything to wrap up on a good note, but...

Almost as if he had read Tae-seo’s mind, Se-heon added one last thing.

"It’s not good for the baby either."

With that, he revealed Tae-seo’s pregnancy, causing Han Mi-sun to freeze completely.

Tae-seo, sensing the shift in the room, subtly leaned into Se-heon’s side and placed a gentle hand over his stomach.

"We call them Blessing."

The result of the love between him and Se-heon... Surely, she understood now?
