The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 97: Newbie Raid (Part 4)
The Hellhound was smart, Drew was far smaller than it and therefore as a result, he was much more evasive to it’s strikes. The Hellhound chose to receive the stab willingly so that it could strike back and deal more damage to Drew.
Right after Drew’s stab, the monster countered with a vertical slash – the slash hit Drew and three vertical gashes were formed from his stomach to his chest. They were deep and Drew was hit badly.
The Cavalier staggered backward and before the Hellhound could see a chance to strike, he leapt and made distance between them.
’I was too focused on the strike,’ Drew thought as blood dripped down his wounds, painting the ground below him... he reached for his pocket to bring out a Healing potion only for the Hellhound to close the distance, raising it’s claws up again.
’Fuck, it’s planning to wear me out,’ Drew thought, the wound he had given the Hellhound was merely superficial at this point and the monster could still move. Drew leaped backward yet again, narrowly dodging a strike that would have dealt more damage.
The Hellhound’s plan was easy – Drew was a strong opponent and so therefore it was going to keep pressing on the attack until Drew died of blood loss, it was a smart plan which would have worked if the Monster didn’t fail to exclude the power of the Apprentices...
The sound of something ripping apart and tearing open echoed through the Boss room, Mika’s eyes flashed.
’When did he...’
Rem landed next to the Boss, sheathing his shortsword just as blood spouted from the eyes of the Hellhound. His eyes locked with Mika momentarily before the Hellhound’s claw came down upon him, smashing the ground and kicking up dust.
Rem circled around the Hellhound, his hands gripping his unsheathed sword.
’Hellhounds have a high healing rate,’ Rem thought, ’This is a boss Hellhound so of course it’s healing is faster than the regular Hellhound,’
The eyes would heal within a minute, during that time, to avoid any serious wounds – The Hellhound trashed around in the place where he believed Rem to be. Rem glanced at Drew who was now a considerable distance away, chugging down a healing vial. The wounds he had incurred had already started to heal and Rem breathed a sigh of relief.
’If he died... my benefits in the mansion would have been drastically reduced,’ Rem thought, nobody wanted to leave a place where there was free food.
The Apprentices were finally on the move, leaving their earlier spot and making a sprint for the Boss. Cole of course was faster than the group and reached the Hellhound earlier, slashing at the tendons of it’s hind legs.
’Since the Hellhound has to heal multiple wounds at the same time, it’s healing speed would naturally decrease,’ Rem thought as Cole slashed through the second Tendon.
Krista leapt into the air, violet soul energy shimmering around her arms as multiple weapons created from soul energy appeared around her. She willed them to shoot at the Hellhound and they obeyed, tearing through the air and stabbing into the Hellhound’s skin and creating even more wounds. Blood splashed across the ground as each weapon pierced the Boss monster, a collection of swords, axes, spears and knives decorated it’s back and stomach area... Rem nodded in approval, she had aimed for vital organs. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Mika bent her knees as soon as she got close enough to the Hellhound, memories of the past flashing before her eyes and her soul energy becoming more chaotic as it wrapped around her fists, Murderous intent surged in the air – all directed to the Hellhound.
’She’s stupid,’ Rem thought with a helpless sigh. Mika’s advances were good but releasing Murderous intent was not smart – Murderous intent gave the location of the user and that was helpful enough for the Hellhound that didn’t have eyes, but the Hellhound hadn’t moved yet, letting Mika advance closer.
"Mika!" Drew’s thick voice sounded through the air, carrying a warning but the girl seemed to ignore it and shot into the air, closing the distance between her and the Hellhound.
’Mom...’
’Dad...’
She brought her fist in front of her and let it shimmer with more volatile soul energy.
’This is my first step to revenge...’
The Hellhound swung it’s claws vertically, Mika was surprised at the sudden movement and couldn’t react – the claws drew closer and closer until they were right in front of her face, she had no way to dodge, she had no way to block... She was going to...
A barrier of soul energy formed around her just as the claws were about to impale her figure, the claws of the Hellhound slashed against the barrier and sent Mika flying backward.
Drew gritted his teeth, focusing his soul energy solely on maintaining the barrier. He had only recently awakened his skill and didn’t have much experience in using it so he burned through a lot of soul energy to maintain it.
The barrier smashed against the wall of the dungeon, cracks spreading all over it only for them to repair instantly by Drew. The barrier soon fell and hit the ground, vanishing as abruptly as it had appeared.
The Hellhound howled once again, waves of sound shooting out of it’s mouth and pushing both Drew and Krista backward... Rem blinked and saw that the Hellhound was upon him, he could see the menacing eyes of the monster. Only one of them had healed.
’It pushed all of it’s energy into regenerating only one eye in the confusion,’ Rem thought, the Hellhound was already close and the claws were dangerously closer – they slashed at him and sent Rem shooting into the air upon impact.
Three vertical slash marks extended from Rem’s torso to his stomach... Drew’s eyes widened in shock but it seemed Rem had come prepared, he lifted a vial to his mouth and began chugging down the healing liquid. He was in the dungeon with people, he didn’t want them to see that he could regenerate or heal himself.
Rem took hold of the shortsword, pumping it’s small yet mighty figure with insane amounts of soul energy before throwing it toward the Hellhound with all of his might.
