Chapter 77: Slippery Culprit

Rem watched the blond Cavalier advance closer to the Hellhound after the prior attacks had been dodged and he moved out of his hiding place – it had been interesting to watch these people fight for their lives in the dungeon but most of their comrades had been killed which left them vulnerable. From what Rem could see, it was only the Blond cavalier that had composure right now, the other two were breaking down and that was what made them the perfect targets.

Rem appeared behind them and two soul sickles materialized in his palms, he pressed them against the necks of both Magus and spoke to them in a deep dark tone.

"Don’t move a muscle," Rem muttered, deepening his voice on purpose.

They flinched but they didn’t move, the cold tips of the blade against their necks. Mira held back her tears, her lips quivering as her heart pounded... there was nothing she could do – she could feel death already.

The Blond Cavalier quickly finished off the Hellhound and Rem decided to speak up, if he didn’t finish things quick, he wouldn’t be able to escape in time with the goods he wanted.

"Don’t take another step forward," Rem spoke in the darkest tone he could mutter, his emotionless tone drew the Cavalier’s attention and then the Blond Cavalier’s eyes widened.

"Mira..." He muttered while trembling, their lives – everything... it was in his hands, The Blond Cavalier did not move not for the fear that his comrades would be killed.

There was something about the aura that surrounded the masked man, it was one of bloodlust, his aura gave off the feeling that he didn’t value their lives at all... he would take them effortlessly as well.

The Blond Cavalier’s breathing turned haggard, he had just landed a Convergence after all... his body was strained.

"What do you want?" He asked and Rem chuckled deeply, his mask never breaking away sight from the Blond Cavalier.

"Everything of worth," Rem replied, "Your Magic stones, any important thing of value – something that can make a valuable haul,"

The Blond Cavalier bit his lips and stared blankly at Rem.

’What was the point of raiding the dungeon and losing Mark and Simon if we leave the same dungeon that they died in empty-handed?’ The Cavalier thought, determination and energy pumping through his body like adrenalin... ’We can’t, it’ll be disrespecting their sacrifice,’

"Yes," The Cavalier said while kneeling down and rummaging until he found the brown sack.

’I need to proceed with caution,’ The Cavalier thought, ’He’s a very dangerous person and any wrong move will result in their deaths,’

The gateway out of the dungeon had opened and he had to tread with caution if he wanted to get out safely. The Blond Cavalier steadily walked to Rem with the sack, the magic stones and their supplies jiggled within it.

"Don’t give him!" Mira cried out, "Just leave!"

The Blond Cavalier didn’t stop and Rem quickly retracted his sickles, grabbing both Magus and shoving their faces into the ground.

"Don’t get up," He said with a growl and stood up, locking eyes with the Blond Cavalier.

The Blond Cavalier extended the sack forward and Rem reached out his hand to collect it only for the Cavalier to draw the sack back and stab Rem in the neck with his sword...

The Cavalier stabbed Rem into the ground and a small shockwave rattled it, the Blond Cavalier smiled as he saw his enemy dead on the ground... The Cavalier pulled out the sword and noticed something strange, slime stained the blade.

"Like I didn’t expect you to betray me," he heard a dark voice behind him and the Cavalier leapt backward instantly, murderous intent surrounding the room – he wasn’t able to fully evade Rem’s next strike which aimed right for his ankle, slashing it open with ease.

He turned around and faced Rem before he landed on the ground... he could see the face of a 14-year old boy with emotionless eyes. Rem stepped forward, his intent pressing the Healer and the water Magus’s eyes shut, their faces on the ground.

The Blond Cavalier felt his heart beating in his chest, everything he experienced in this life flashing before his very eyes.

’W – why is my life flashing before my eyes?’ He wondered while trying to wipe the tears which flowed down his cheeks, ’Am I about to die?’

Rem arrived in front of the man and drove the soul sickle deep within his heart, the armor didn’t help at all as it was instantly cut open the moment the Soul sickle penetrated.

"You lost," Rem whispered lowly and mockingly as he drew back the blade, blood erupting from the hole in the Cavalier’s chest and painting the ground below him – some of it splattered unto Rem’s face but he didn’t care much.

Rem secured the sack and looked in it, everything he wanted was right in it and he was glad he made such a haul and then he looked at the two still kneeling on the ground.

"You’re free to go," Rem said a minute later, and they stood up slowly, not daring to stare back at him – and in case they did so, Rem had already worn his clothes again.

He threw the sack into his inventory, ready to decipher the contents of the sack when he was in the clear. Both of them stepped forward and quickly walked out of the dungeon while Rem observed the wreckages, he soon stepped through the portal and the first thing he sighted was a woman with black hair and blue eyes positioned a little bit away from him as well as a burly Cavalier wearing silver armor.

’The people I were trying to evade, huh?’ Rem thought as he instantly shot through the air, heading to a nearby building only for a projectile to shoot ahead of him and slam into the building destroying it as a result. Rem’s eyes widened but he didn’t stop propelling forward.

’They’re trying to kill me huh?’

Rem entered the smoke from the wreckage but they were not willing to let him get away that easily.

"Walter!" Arya shouted at the top of her voice and the Cavalier responded by raising up his sword with purpose.

"Wind Blade!" he cried as a gust of wind shot forth from his sword, the gust of wind was so powerful that it not only cleared the smoke but pushed away the wreckage and revealed Rem the next instant.

’I knew they were strong,’ Rem thought as he pushed his mask against his face, ’But I didn’t expect them to be this strong,’

Brilliant blue wisps of flame shot forward, heading for Rem and the Apprentice could feel the murderous intentions covered within each orb – they wanted him dead and it wasn’t their fault, he was stealing the profits of Orion city for his personal gain.

Rem quickly pumped soul energy into his feet and stomped the ground, kicking up a lot of dust and even some nearby debris into the air. Using this opportunity, Rem utilized Flash movement and shot through the air landing on a nearby building and started running into Reifall.

"We need to chase after him," Arya said while turning to Walter who cleared the dust with his Wind blade strike, the Cavalier captain nodded and both of them vanished.

Rem dashed as he jumped from building to building with acute accuracy and speed laced in his movements, but his speed was nothing to the Cavalier captain known as Walter who descended from the air and slammed his sword into the building Rem was about to jump on... Rem’s eyes widened in surprise as more blue wisps of flames shot toward him, each of them pelting his skin and burning through his cloak...

Rem landed on another building at his side and kept up his running pace, he of course had a plan to tackle this situation and was going to execute it with complete dedication.

’Where is he going?’ Arya thought as she watched Walter chase after Rem – Rem’s movements were strange and unlike someone who got cornered, more likely like someone who knew this would happen and already had a plan for it.

Rem turned around and saw Walter not too far away from him then he smiled.

"Looks like I win," Rem said in a cold dark voice and jumped off the roof, he was out of Walter’s line of sight for a minute and that was enough – Walter jumped off the roof and aimed to continue pursuing Rem only to blink for a second.

"Where did he go?" Walter muttered, he couldn’t see the boy anymore.
